Oh, I sure some were armed. Gun restrictions in such environments simply reduce the likelihood of an incident, not stop all possibility. Laws, law enforcement, bouncers, and the occasional armed owner, attempt to take care of the rest. Even all that will not always work. Neither will armed citizens such as you or myself.
I don't open carry nor drink, so neither is an issue for me. I do conceal carry, but that specifically excludes bars and liquor stores - which I think is a good idea given my past experiences working, and later owning, a bar. Doubt few of those customers, when drinking, could ever be fully trusted with a gun. Certainly wouldn't hand a gun to one to find out.

I was a Police Officer for a short bit, (I was laid off right after I graduated the Academy, so I have no street experience) but I think you will find that most Officers support gun rights. While the experienced officers might disagree, it is already smart to assume everyone you come across could be armed. (I mean mentally, not for searching).
As far as being a victim of a robbery, yes compliance is usually the safest course, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have a weapon just in case.

I do conceal carry, but that specifically excludes bars and liquor stores - which I think is a good idea given my past experiences working, and later owning, a bar. I was a Police Officer for a short bit, (I was laid off right after I graduated the Academy, so I have no street experience) but I think you will find that most Officers support gun rights. While the experienced officers might disagree, it is already smart to assume everyone you come across could be armed. (I mean mentally, not for searching).
As far as being a victim of a robbery, yes compliance is usually the safest course, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have a weapon just in case.

5 bucks says that the citizen who shot and killed one of the robbers, got a free bottle of any liquer he wanted from the liquer store owner......at least that's what I woulda done if someone kills a robber in my store.........You kill someone who would steal from me? You deserve a bottle of whatever you want !!!

He's not a suspect. He is a CRIMINAL!!!! The CRIMINAL committed the crime, not the suspect. A suspect is someone who you THINK committed the crime. The crime was committed by a CRIMINAL!!!!

Gun registration and heavy fines envolved with not having them in this kind of situation are already in place. Statistically I would think the difference between UK gun crime and US gun crime has more to do with population numbers and not any real difference in comparative rates of criminal stupidity.
