  • I saw a picture of Ms. Newton-John taken recently, and I must say she has aged VERY well!

  • I sampled this song for anyone who wants to hear it, its here youtube . com /watch?v=F3OURjJLCKQ

  • Back in the day, I used to listen to my older teenaged sister sing this over and over and over again with ONJ and she hit the notes every time. So, it's quite possible to do naturally, with no help from machines or computers.

  • Many Thank's I love iy !!!

  • Never heard this song before. The backing music reminds me a lot of Alan Parson Project's Tales of Mystery and Imagination album.

  • Not to detract from her voice, obviously Olivia's the real deal, but the auto-tune comments are pretty ironic considering the backing vocals on this song are being played/tuned with a keyboard and vocoder. Just because it's the 80's doesn't mean music was all natural, quite the opposite.

  • I liked this song the first time I heard it back in 78' Olivia was ahead of her time and a superstar before "Grease".

  • Had the "Totally Hot" tape then the long play when I was a teenager. I did order the CD from the states about 10 years ago (and it costed a lot back then).

I think that's her best solo album.

I also made a clip many years ago from another song of the same album. Just search for "Olivia Newton-John - Never enough".

I met Olivia in person last september, she is still beautiful.

  • our artist Tiffinni Saint Ranae sings in the "whistle register just like minnie ripperton&mariah carey! & yes Add the lovely Livvy to that list here! with the notes at the end where she sounds like a saxophone!Tiffnni has a 6 octave range and hits the high c "8" which you can clearly hear here that onj does wonderfully ! what is with all the underrated singers! IS onj in the hall of fame?kudos to her!

We will post some r and b perfromances of Tiffinni&some opera in the Whistle register soon

  • I AGREE- OLIVIA DID IT ALL NATURAL....This was before this crap of today.

  • At 5:05 it sounds like a Chipmunk, I don't know if she could actually sound like that. The rest does sound real though, some with just dubbed multiple times or whatever.

  • @JBHutto It has echo effects but it's all Olivia none of that voice toner stuff or electronic voice tuners they use today. Olivia is all natural.

  • A nice song that I'd never heard before.

  • Amazing song! Her voice is crystal clear and she managed those "screeches" at the ending, without any audio changing, altering or anything. Its natural. Love it :)

    ♥Hannah~Kira

  • yeah Olivia sings so perfect its scary....her voice is like an instrument .....stunning!

  • beaver trilogy!

  • @mradamcooley

    crispin does it best <3!

  • RIP groovin' gary

  • Thank you for posting this! My record skips all over this song. Probably my favorite album of all time: Totally Hot.

  • J'adore cette chanson,Olivia nous prouve son joli brin de voix, trop sublime, merci OLIVIA

  • This song is so special to me, thanks so much for uploading! Bye the way, i used to be able to hit those high notes once upon a time ;))

  • Olívia voce está demaiiiis cantando esta canção.

  • What John said!

  • I love how she goes so high!

  • oliva's renaissance.

  • for a guy calling himself patience, you're kind of an uppity douche

  • @horsesflu Wow ms/mr I'm going to assume everyone of youtube is a guy because guys are superior... who says I'm a guy?

  • Hi patience978, you clearly don't have experience with recording vocalists. I've worked with many over the last 20 years, and there is NOTHING fake about Olivia's vocals on this track. I should know as I have remixed her music myself. I think YOU need to realise that vocally ONJ is quite a competent singer. And I'm not an obsessed fan, just an experienced music producer. What a shame you are such a cynic....

  • @johnvonahlen, I wish I had your experience. I, too, would never doubt Olivia's stunning voice. It has NEVER sounded "modified." I can just imagine her doing a cappella.

  • She goes really high...

  • This artist does not use Auto-Tune. Unlike many of the new performers, Olivia actually has a voice and does not use absolutely ridiculous voice altering software to make her music.

  • @Scoobitzu

Olivia uses a Korg or Roland Vocoder system to have this almost natural but yet soft robotvoice feel.....

I have one too and it was the top in those years....

    Cheerz

  • This is one of my faves!

  • love this song i got the tape lik 3 days ago i was afraid 2 listen 2 it cuz i didnt kno if it was any good nd my sister made me listen to it and now i luv it :)

  • Una de las mejores canciones de Totally Hot de 1978!!! recuerdo la primera vez que oi esta cancion...no podia creer que Olivia tubiera una voz mas alla a lo que expone aqui!!!

    Olivia i love forever!!!

  • Magnífica canción, rompiendo con su estilo habitual, incluida en un fabuloso álbum en 1978, y rompiendo también con su típica imagen.

    Maravillosa, maravillosa Olivia Newton-John.

Superb song, breaking with his usual style, including a fabulous album (Totally hot-1978), breaking with its traditional image.

Wonderful, wonderful Olivia Newton-John, I was hung.

  • I am totally sure that the unusual vocals at the end of the song are purely Olivia's voice.

I was 14 years when this album was released and that0s why I start loving Olivia.I was fascinated by her voice.Go Olivia, you are still the best.

  • wow, my brother was convinced it was mechanical and I proved it through other songs like Jolene, that Olivia has an amazing range that peaks at such a high, technical note. He was amazed.

  • I LOVE this song. Wow, big-time flashback to the 70's. I literally haven't heard this song in close to 3 decades!

I used to emulate ONJ and "sing" in my make-shift microphone when I was 11yrs old. I remember every single word and the timing of her high notes at the end.

    She's so beautiful!

thank u from the bottom of my heart for

    posting this song!!! ;D.

  • Thanx for sharing this :o)

  • "beaver trilogy" by trent harris.. 2000

  • RIP Groovin' Gary

  • she has got an awesome voice!!! back in the day, she was called Olivia Neutron Bomb...she was quite the babe then..... she still is beautiful...

  • Groovin gary totally owns this song!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the best vocal performances I ever heard. And so is the classic sound of the keyboards. But please hear the two last minutes of this song: ¡I just can't believe it!

  • what can't you believe? What are we missing? It just sounds like she is screaming. What is that sound, Mauref?

  • What can't you understand, Henry? When I say "vocal performance" I'm talking about singing perfectly in tune in the range of more than 3 octaves (by the way, ¿do you know what is an octave?), but it seems you can only hear a woman "screaming". ¿Is it for true you don't know what you're missing?

  • No need to be nasty. I asked a legitimate question, and to me it sounds like a screaming banshee. Or as one of the other members said, 'it just gets silly at the end.' As though they didn't know how to end this song. Sorry I am not a voice coach.

  • O.K, Henry, I didn't want to sound nasty, I'm sorry. This is not my favourite song, but anyway we have to recognize that the quality of the Olivia's voice is awesome and you don't need to be a voice coach to appreciate it. Have a nice day, Henry.

  • Not a problem, Mauref. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

  • you´re so stupid

  • this whole album was great! Could you please post Boats Against The Current?" Another beautiful song from this album!!

  • i played and played this when i was really little,(it pissed my mom off!!)ta this day the end is amazing!!! tnx 4 posting!!

  • As someone said - killer track.. and was the first out of the gate on the UK version of the album.

If you take a look at her tracklistings.. they always seem to play out as the "other woman".. could this be down to her sadly being in that role with Bruce Welch?

Yep - and during the breakdown, she was up with that synth...

  • this just gets silly near the end.

  • I agree, JunkYardkid. That's why it was not one of my favorites from this album. Good album though, so thanks for posting this.

  • I love this song and its a classic and I remember baxk in 1987 on my wedding day my wife loved this song also and she had this song on the list of songs to play at the reception and today its the only song i remenber that was on her list and anyway she is a x wife now and has been for years and years and thats the way it goes in live and the song wull always be a GREAT SONG AND OLIVIA IS AS SOLID AS STEVIE NICKS ABD I LOVE THEM BOTH ROCK ON MY FRIENDS ROCK WILL NEVER BE A X IN MY LIFE

  • Please don't Keep Me Waiting is definitely the killer track of this album, and I remember being absolutely blown away the first time I heard it back in '78.

It's widely believed that the unusual vocals at the end of the song were enhanced electronically , but producer John Farrar insisted they were achieved purely through overdubbing Olivia's voice.

I have often wondered why this track hasn't been re-worked into a modern dance anthem... but for me, nothing can touch the original.

  • Olivia is in my haert for 30 yaers,,thanks

  • definately one of the best

  • I LOVE this song. When I first heard it, my brother said she was singing against an instrument in her high note section. I said he was crazy, but he didn't know her voice well. He said it was too perfect. Yep. That sums it up for me.

  • Banshee Screams!!! Where? lol I love this track... Should have been the single instead of "Totally Hot".. far better vocal and way more commercial - disco-wise (WOW that dates me... lol)

  • Terrific song and a great album.

  • I think it's great that you decided to post this song. You put together a nice slideshow, too.

There's a live version (audio only) of this song floating around on the Internet. It was done in '78 during the Totally Hot tour. I saw her live in '77 and she was still able to hit the high notes (the end of "Jolene" for example), but she doesn't attempt to do the banshee screams live for this song.

  • Definately one of the best songs from the Totally Hot album you gotta love the banshee screams at the end, love it , also love A little more love
