  • I'm from Wisconsin and I've always said new ore lins it just sounds weird if you say new ore leans

  • Hi Kathy, I have a song on YouTube - City of New Orleans, @ken170647. I think I got the pronunciation right on it. What do you think?

  • @ken170647 Yeah, when you use New Orleans in a song or poem, it's permissible to go with the or-LEANS pronunciation for rhyming purposes! Who dat!

  • If you don't know *why* some people call the crescent city "Nawlins," maybe you shouldn't be making a video *defending* proper pronunciation.

  • @pingguo2 What I said was I don't know why people are so freaky weird and picky about the pronunciation of New Orleans. Knowing that, do I have your permission to make the video?

  • @KathyPriceRobinson Of course you have my permission, I was just testing you.

  • @pingguo2 OK. Fair enough. Hope I passed the test!

  • THANK YOU for being straight up! Your integrity shines through.

  • I'm from Texas and I pronounce it the right way.. "New Ore Lins", however most people I know pronounce it "New Ore Leans"

  • Nice video Kathy.

Question: When you paused at 5:57 were you mentally checking you're pronunciation? lol. it seemed like it. :)

  • That's the way I pronounce it, so I guess I was on the right track. Now pronounce Louisville.

  • @FuIIOfFaiI Is it pronounced like this — LOU-vull

  • It would be nice to let Google Translate know about this...

  • @KZGonZa Yes, so true!

  • some asshole told me once that I was pronouncing New Orleans wrong, now I understand that I was right, thank you very much!!!

  • @yonatanabner Glad to be of help!

  • born and grew up in Metarie. I heard it pronounced alot as " nuh WAHL-lins" too

  • @Justen1980 Yep, that sounds right, as well. I forgot to add New Ore-LEE-ins, which puts an extra syllable in there. Mayor Landrieu says it this way.

  • Thanks Kathy 'with a K'. You explained that very honestly for forthright. Thanks, because I'm comin' to New ORE Lins....to drum Feb of 2011. It's the only town where you can be an 85 year old drummer and they think it's cool. So I have a 30 year future ahead of me! John-Hans Melcher "the Quiet Drummer"

  • @johnnyzing Hope you had a great time drumming here! I also like the respect for oldsters here. Dr. John lives!

  • Nahlinz, Lou-zana

  • Thank you for informing those who say " New Or - Leens " the New Orleans history should be spread , rather than ob-holding it to ourselves and letting the Northerners think we are just the normal average everyday old down south country folk ... which i may say we are far from it ... southern and New Orleans cultures are two of different worlds :D

  • @MaitreTsu So true! We are little pocket of funk in a vast sea of Southern. But we've got all the friendliness you could want!

  • Very well assembled information, Kathy. Thanks.

  • Thank you very much.

I am going to New Orleans this weekend and it helped me a lot!
