  • Peart > Bonham > Tom Hanks

  • My god, if I was the coach of a ice hockey team I would play this song and clip before the game.Very inspiring indeed!

  • that was awesome i like this part 0:25-0:30

  • tom hanks?!

  • @WildAndCrazySkits glasses are worn in front of the eyes, not the neck

  • did they pronounce neils last name wrong around 1:03 or am i just an idiot?

  • no, they did. at least i always thought his name was pronounced like Pert and not Peert.

  • nope. it's peeee-urt.

  • @RIPjohnbonham, i thot it was Part :/

  • Nope, that's the way it's supposed to be pronounced. Just 99% of the public pronounce it "Pert".

  • leafs in front huh? too bad you can only say that when it involves drum kits

  • Leafs in the front.

  • STATE buddy

  • If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.

PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.

    Thanks

    Patrick Thompson

  • WHO DAT! WHO DAT! WHO DAT say the SAINTS are in the superbowl XLIV!!!!!!!!

    WHO DAT, eh?

  • Fricken A, eh?

  • All you people comparing one drummer to another or guitar players or what ever miss the whole point of music, that its a form of expression, not a competition. Why not appreciate each musician for their individual abilities ??

  • @JillLALA Totally agree with you!

  • Exactly, you'd have a better discussion comparing what is better: Pizza or Ice Cream.

I guess the right answer is Pizza.

  • @barneyrebelx pizza i think, it has to be dominoes!

  • way better than the barenaked ladies

  • really great Neil

  • As a Canadian this video makes me crazy proud for a 100 reasons.

  • MrYouknowwhat my friend you one dumb mother fucker. How is Neil Peart overrated. Rush isnt even in the Hall of Fame, and you think hes overrated. Overrated is someone whose celebrity and Name supercedes their ability. Neil Peart is the best drummer in the world. PUT RUSH IN THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME..

  • @millsykid13 i say one thing and i get you twats saying all this shit! oh my god! just fuck off.

  • What the hell? So he's overrated because it's not your type, and he's not good because he doesn't have a damn harness and a car seat playing shit that has no art vertically in the air? Just get the hell off of here.

  • @nevinkel where the hell did i say he's "not good"!? and btw, you brought up joey not me you silly ass..

  • @millsykid13 the most embarassing thing from the rock n roll hall of fame is:ZZ Top (c'mon!!!!!!!)is in there and rush don't....i gave up ...fuck all the press. Rush has the mix between Moon,Bonham and Hanks. No one can beat this.best band in the world..Rush

  • Now this i much better than Travis barkers....

  • yeah i have to admit he is over-rated, yeah he's a good drummer, but it's not my type of music or drumming style =]

  • @MrYouknowwhat so just becuase it's not YOUR type of music or drumming style he's overrated? Get real.

  • @nevinkel lmfao, even people that love him say he's over-rated, he's realy not as good as everyone makes him out to be "check out neil peart, best drummer in the world" in watch it and i see this? LOL

  • @MrYouknowwhat why are you laughing your ass off? Anyway, he's 57 years old and drumming better than your top rated drummers these days. Joey Jordison= overrated.

  • @nevinkel wow! i didnt know that joey jordison was one of my top drummers! anyway, i've never seen neil peart drumming vertical and spinning!! my favourite drummer is chris adler, not rated the best drummer, but in my opinion he is.

  • You don't know anything about drumming. Just thought you should know.

  • This is a really cool HNIC bit. Love Neil Peart. Why is it that whenever a drummer has a solo on YT, at least a few morons start spouting off about who is a better drummer. It is enough to say that all these guys are great drummers - is it possible to say who is the best? I say not. Different genres, different kits, different styles. Maybe we should have a contest to see who can do the best double stroke rolls at 400 bpm? Would that give us a winner? Just enjoy it. It's music.

  • NEIL IS THE MAN!

  • god kill me when i'm 59

  • A typical Neil showcase.

  • Rush and hockey...it doesnt get much better than that...I AM CANADIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • epic is it actully the new song??? dont call me an idiot for asking

  • Thought he performed perfectly for the SONG ... sometimes, less is more. He could have blazed this one - sounds better the way he did it ... just enough bombast to serve the song. Kudos !!!

  • It's simple....

    NEIL PEART IS GOD.

  • I'm a big Peart fan, always will be. What is it about this project that irks me. Maybe I have just already heard all Peart's fills one too many times. This is licks from other RUSH songs cut and pasted unmeaningfully over the top. Even stuck a 'look what I can do' double handed crossover in there. Like I say, maybe I've been listening too long. I mean no disrespect to The Professor.

  • Go Peart Go!

Un autre tour du chapeau pour toi Neil xxx

  • this is awesome, great work niel

  • just went and listened to Simon Phillips, guitardude57. Pretty good, but I certainly didn't hear anything so extraordinary that would have made Peart stumble or struggle.

Nobody ever said that this hockey theme gig was the 'best of Peart.' It wasn't for him to show off all the coolest riffs.

Kind of like in Rush where the boys play what's appropriate for the arrangement and not just trying to show off. They've never needed to do that.

  • There can be only one...and it's Neil. All these other drummers listed learned from Neil. He took rock drumming "cool" (Bonham) to EXTRAORDINARY (Peart). The guy is legend.

  • Nice. How do you keep the leafs off of your lawn? Throw a hockey puck onto the lawn. The LEAFS won't go near it.

  • What a crime CBC isn't using the best NHL theme music of all time! Crazy!

Peart is awesome...but The Leafs? They remind me of a bicycle....in the basement for the winter!

  • What's the crime? How does a corporate decision affect yoy? I din't mean to be an ass, but what is the big deal about a 50 second song that's now on a different channel?

    Good Leafs comment! lol...

  • I think Neil Peart is one of the best for what he dose with the music he plays . Lets face it ,Rush music was cutting egde and some times still is . And yes guys like Bonham, Steve Gadds and all the rock, counrty drummer and Jazz guy are great . But if it was not for god like drummers like BUDDY RICH , LOU BELSOME . Will lets just say i would be washing cars other then drumming for a living . Horse Thief Rocks

  • I'm really trying to understand the vitriol surrounding this track. Peart I believe has pulled off a great balance his 'signature style and sound' - which is why he was commissioned to do this in the first place - with the Classic theme. He left a lot of notes and flourishes OUT that he could have crammed in if he so desired, but that's not what he does in Rush, and not what he did here!! :) And his blending of Rock, (a little) Latin, and a Lot of Jazz drumming in just one minute is amazing.

  • 100% Canadian.....even the New Brunswick made Sabian cymbols!

  • neil is a real vet ! boham is a great drummer ! theyre legend so suck yourself

  • Music (or art, as a true musician's would refer to) is in the EAR of the beholder not the Opinion.

  • lots of stupid comments. idiots that say he sucks are..well..idiots. folks who think Bonham was a great drummer-well...you can say he's your favorite but he was no great drummer. tune in to the drum channel and look at real masters of the trade...like PEART.

  • Coming from a guitar dude who probably has no rhythm or sense of time whatsoever I'm sure Neil Peart is crying all the way to the bank over it. Ahhh! Boo hoo hoo!

  • @guitardude57 Who would you say is the best?

  • Who's better than Peart?

  • A few years ago Peart organized a concert in honour of Buddy Rich "Burning for Buddy". If you want to check out drummers for comparison pick up the CD or watch clips if you can find them.

Once again, I didn't say Peart wasn't a good drummer, just massively over rated and I don't think this version of the song took much thought at all.

  • I agree. Neil is a great rock drummer, but seriously over-rated. People tout him as the greatest drummer in the world. He's quite possibly the most influential in the past 20 years...but far from the greatest.

  • @Tonyr0206 he is the greatest

i dont no anyone as popular as neil and as ryhmically moving as himself.

    i dont think hes overrated

  • Being popular doesn't make you the best. I think he is over-rated in the grand scheme of things. He's a phenominal rock drummer...probably my biggest influence. But to say he's the best in the world is ridiculous. People need to branch outside of the realm of Rush, and realize there are better musicians out there. (I'm a HUGE Rush fan by the way...seen them 11 times and counting)

  • @Tonyr0206 Fail.

  • So Devil...you're telling me that not one drummer in that whole group I mentioned is a better drummer than Neil? Two words: Vinnie Colaiuta. Look at some clips of Vinnie playing with Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, or live at the Baked Potato & you'll be eating your words. From my own experience-I;ve been drumming for 29 years, and can play 99% of any Rush song From La Villa Strangiato to The Main Monkey Business-flawlessly-but can't even comprehend some of the things that Vinnie plays.

  • Vinnie Colaiuta, Billy Cobham, Virgil Donati, Steve Smith, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Mike Portnoy, Peter Erskine (whom Neil is currently taking lessons from), Dennis Chambers, Tony Royster Jr, JoJo Mayer, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Carter Beauford, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Will Calhoun, Chad Wackerman, Rod Morgenstein, Kenny Arnoff, Jeff Hamilton......Shall I continue?

  • @guitardude57 Are you fuckin retarded? You have to be maybe 12 years old and into Joey Jordison shit, because a statement like that can only come from a punk ass biotch.

  • Bonham didn't live long enough to be one of the greatest drummers. He pissed his life away with drugs and alcohol. Neil is the better drummer!

  • THE greatest rock drummer....period! Awesome job!

  • The only yjing that was missing was in the beginning there shoulda beeen a " Coo loo coo coo coo coo coo coo!

  • Fucking sweet and love the ode to keeping it old school. Nice job Neil.

  • just not the same. like the original better

  • more cowbell! but seriously folks that was pretty cool...

  • WAH....Just watch it for Gods sake...Bonhams DEAD...wanna see a drummer...BUDDY RICH.......YA the Professor IS awesome

  • Wish the Canucks could play this good!

  • 1) Duthie fucks up his last name

    2) The more they change it, the more there fucking up the original, the song shouldn't have been TOUCHED, let alone have left CBC

    3) It sounds like something I'd hear on a late night talk show, espically the ending

  • 1) He pronounced it the right way.

    2) This is the best version of the theme and it probably should've stayed on CBC.

    3) Kinda, but Rush rules.

  • neal all the way the best drumer in the world

  • best drummer in world hands down...enough said

  • neal peeeert come on dude!

  • Neil Peart is Fing Win!

  • It was alright?

I think vadrum could have done a better job.

  • thats neil peart for ya

    RUSH FTW

  • A Devils logo on Neil's kit...PERFECT!!!!!

  • The only good thing to come out of TSN buyimng the hockey theme. hail Neil!

  • SLAPIN THE BASS MAN!

  • @rushpowerpratt YEESSSS, the holy triumvrent.

  • BlackHawks rule!

  • This version is very good quality!

  • It was very interesting to see how Peart arranged the hockey song. Since Geddy & Alex do most, if not all, of the main composing for Rush it was interesting to hear Peart work alone with this. I dig it.

  • Comment removed

  • what's your problem? You're an idiot

  • Not Neil! James Duthie. I can't stand him.

  • umm Neil Peert <*pronunciation* is actually how you pronounce his name.

  • Oh my god. Listen to how Duthie says it.

All I've done is make fun of Duthie and peolpe get mad at me.

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe Rush can do a version next?

  • too bad the Leafs cant play this good !!!

  • WOW!! C'mon to those of you out there who don't appreciate it - this kicks some ASS!!

  • I think it's a fitting jolt to the theme and its very cool! And yes...too bad the leafs can't play that good...

  • 1. it's a mishmash of the original theme - no surprise, since TSN paid for the rights. I doubt composer would have agreed to this - too flashy and formulaic. The only redeeming part is the drums. Pretty sad, original spread the meat throughout the band.

    2. This is pure marketing ploy - get a big name in music to promote the theme and get people emotionally involved - "I love Neil's playing, ergo, I love the new theme".

    3. Badly Bent - yes.

I'll enjoy responses to my thoughts.

  • Hehehe....drummers arguing.....kinda like watching monkeys fighting at the zoo, but with more poo throwing.

Nice version of the theme, btw, thanks for posting.

  • Is it really pronounced "PEERT"? I thought it was Pronounced "PERT"

One of my favourite drummers, regardless. Thanks for posting.

  • yes,

  • I love how he goes from the snare roll right into the splash cymbal choke...that was neat!

  • John Bonham could have done a better job! his cross overs at :30 seconds is a rip off of the late bonzo!

  • staminqia your a fucking idiot you need to shut up so every drummer is ripping bonzo off when they do cross overs every drummer does it moron

  • @staminqia in neil's videos he cites his influences and says he uses certain tecniques as tributes to those who inspire him...Bonham was a big influence...

  • John Bonham is dead and was drunk half the time...Neil is the greatest of all time.

  • i'd say john Bonham was second best, keith moon has first place for me but is also dead... neil is the greatest at the moment

  • ever heard of buddy rich, gene krupa?

  • also dead...

  • just cuz someones dead automatically takes away their legacy? i dont think so

  • could u play that well if you were drunk?

  • Bonham was the best at crossovers! I love Neil but he just doesnt compare to bonham, Bonham was in a league of his own. Neil needs two bass drums to do what Bonham could do with his bass!!!!

  • You have no clue. Bonham is no where near or even half the drummer that Neil is. Peart is in a class all by himself.

  • @rromanin Amen

  • No one can duplicate two pedals with one. You can simulate short fills (by adding a floor tom) but not extended 16th or 32nd notes. Bonham had a great foot and rock technique but there reaches a point where it is physically impossible to play everything on one that two can.

  • good to see neil giving back to toronto maple leafs with the drum kit in there team logo ,and he will get a standing o for his work , go leafs go

  • Actually, for Neil Peart... that was pretty tame.

    Still awesome though!!

  • @russtyballz Which is what is good about him too-he knows when to lay back a little for the sake of the song!

  • I love your set Neil, I been playing ( no as well as you for years) and would love a set like that. Its the coolest!

    Cheers

  • Rush enters the hockey hall of fame before they enter the rock and roll hall of fame - at least someone is recognizing how amazing they are.

  • I wouldn't worry too much about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's a joke anyway. They seem to have some sort of mandate that they add at least one ancient motown group nobody cares about every year, along with a huge rock band as if they are equal...

  • What team does he support?

  • @whonext360 Leafs

  • @whonext360 Cmon... of course it's Toronto! Their most famous instrumental is YYZ!

  • I don't know any morse code, especially pertaining to Toronto airports. I am an idiot from the USA.

  • Are you sure it's the leafs, he's friends with Steve Shutt

  • Neil is the best drummer in the world!!!

That was Awesome! Love the Drum Kit

  • Cool that he was using both rock and jazz licks in this rendition.

The man has some serious percussion chops!

    Way to go Neil!

  • sunrise2cd Yes Neil Peart is Canadian and our families grew up together. Best drummer ever and best NHL theme song ever. Only Neil could do such a great job !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Where's the full version?

  • This is the full verison watch my video mines got other hockey stuff during it so its not just him

  • Nice one Barn. Thanks for this.

  • How stupid was CBC for ignoring the importance of this theme song?! How hard are they kicking themselves now? Idiots.

  • Piece of crap, you for sure know nothing about music, great bands or drummers. Neil is one of the best in rock music. Let's see what you look like when your 58. Retire, Rush is the longest running band with the same line-up since he joined in 74. Bonham is dead, great drummer for sure. People like you should just stick to your porn sites and leave the music comments to musicians and music lovers

  • Killer drums and killer solo. Hey Barney nicest link I have seen so far.

  • Bonham would have played for the backstreet boys...

  • i bet your daddy played with your backstreet when you were a boy...

  • its not the full version :(

  • yeah it is my verison isnt the full version

  • @staminqia Yes, but Peart is Canadian.
