@lf1234 I would love too! But unfornately, the perfect director for a perfect adaptation is no longer among us. Robert Altman was the only one who could have done a proper, ideal, magnificent film from this wonderful play. I've no doubt there are other talented directors out there nowadays (Paul Thomas Anderson comes to mind) who could do a good job, but none of yhem like Altman could have. IMHO
Bobby has had commitment issues through the entire play, Marry Me a Little is actually an ironic song as he isn't ready for that sort of commitment. However with that final conversation with Joanne, he admits to himself that he does want someone to take care of, instead of being a bachelor. Joanne's character is bitter and complex, but their friendship is beautiful. They're both looking for the same thing. That's why Joanne likes him.
@selwynsivagumar Marry Me a Little is originally the ending of the show, instead of Being Alive, it makes no sense for it to be in this show, but they put it in at intermission for the hell of it.
I also feel that they just get along, because Joanne allows it. As Larry kind of hints, she's rather fake, and this isn't the real her. Also, I don't think she is seriously asking when they will "make it", she's just teasing him to get him to open up.
And Larry just breaks my heart every time I see this. "She doesn't act like this when you're not around, Bobby. I hope you get to meet Joanne some time - she's really a terrific lady." Oh my god. It's SO depressing.
She is a force of nature. Such a travesty that she didn't get a Tony nomination for this performance.

I would love to see this adapted into a feature film (properly). I think it could work and I would love to see this piece go global.

"You've got a good third husband."
The one ray of optimism in a scene chalk full of bitterness and hurt feelings.

You can see the arrow pierce Larry's heart after Joanne says "Don't ever get married. Why would you?"

She is SO fantastic.
And Larry just breaks my heart every time I see this. "She doesn't act like this when you're not around, Bobby. I hope you get to meet Joanne some time - she's really a terrific lady." Oh my god. It's SO depressing.
