  • How come there aren't any more clean, studio versions of this song? Why are they all live performances and covers? WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!?????

  • like if skrillex lead you here (x

  • @imagicmoneyman Wait, what? I don't listen to much to Skrillex, but what?

  • ♥ .

  • I love this.

  • Narodnjak

  • Thank you Wes Anderson for introducing this song to me

  • I am here because of the movie "The Darjeeling Limited". I have often wondered why the writers decided to introduce this long at key places in the movie. What significance can it have in the context of the film. I always wondered if the character Jack (Jason Schwartzman's character) was supposed to be the 'girl' in the song.

  • @faerienik I think that it's his love song to the girl that natalie portman plays, there's a short movie called Hotel Chevalier which goes into the romance between jack and her. :]

  • @ulreika Spot on, he turns on the ipod to prep for her coming over and it continues throughout the rest of the short film. Thats how I found it, and then fell in love about a million times over when I heard the full track.

  • This beautiful song reminds me of Annie's Song by John Denver. Both are fantastic.

  • But WHO is the song about??????????????????

  • Sadly I know this song word for word. Mainly due to the fact I love this song. It is so beautiful, and links to so much of the sixties.

  • such a wonderful classic :-)

  • Still beautiful.. Even after all theses years!!

  • In the beginning and in the end it sound oddly like a sailor's song. But altogether the song is sweet. And the thing he wears on his head looks like the bearhunters' guard from Buckingpalace, doesn't it..? ;-)

  • He was singing SUPPOSIDLY about Sophia Loren

  • I remember that evening when i saw this for the first time and i just thought his beard is cute

  • personally* feck it

  • My mother wrote Peter Sarstedt an email thanking him for all the pleasure this song has given her over the last 40 years. He very kindly responded presonally. The man is a true gent.

  • @thefastestfox1 what kind of pleasure?

  • @Trac3ri Mostly Catholic but the occasional bit of back door action.

  • Just had to start growing a moustache back in '69 after seeing Peter S. Had to shave it off though in '75 (my husband didn't like it)

  • @EVANS1948 haha) lve made up my mind!!!!!!lm growin mine ,fuck what men think!!!!))))

  • @EVANS1948

  • always wondered who he sung about ... be interesting to find out .... !

  • yes, we had the liberty to wear our hair as we fancied. . .fashion, man, fashion !!

  • @macvatu But - openly speaking: His hear looks like a wig (and not a good one, I must say). But be it as it may - the song is timeless and really lovely ;-)

  • He lived in a box outside buckingham palace

  • @fish5133 really?

  • y are people dancing like spring on there legs???

  • @satvir976 Must have to do with evolution.

  • Still amazing after all these years

  • Brilliant ... oh yes you are! Wonderful ... you are! Showing great talent... yes you did ;))) FAB!!!!

  • Good song that remings me of my youth, unfortunately he reminds me of Ron Jeremy. Lol

  • Epic mustache.

  • The darjeeling limited!!!!

  • He looks like an indian.

  • @marcao169 He is half Indian born in Delhi.

  • Somehow it seems funny to see people dancing to this song.

  • @deathray32 thats how laid back people in the 60's were.

  • @deathray32 If you have not realised, the song is set in the European Waltz tune and hence the dance.

  • @biswadas Of course I know it's a waltz, but people aren't waltzing! Anyway I was just saying it's the kind of song I would want to sit and listen to rather than dance to. I don't know why you have a problem with that.

  • great song :)

  • is he actualy wearing a bearskin??????????????

  • any one born50s and 60s get this any later its wasted yes

  • Love it x

  • It's about Sophia Loren

  • It was about Sophia Loren

  • i thought he looked a bit indian. If only they could all integrate in style like this 1.

  • I love being able to appreciate so many kinds of music, from rock/metal to classical and from folk to 60s ballads. Eclectism is epic.

  • Long before I was born but. Love it

  • @megaforcemedia The cover of the album clearly says this song was written in Copenhagen.

@TonyB08 I don't think I want to know about you seing inside your wife, thanks. =S

  • God - I love this song and the voice - I was 4 when this was out. I remember it from then and just rediscovered it. It's sad and brings back such lovely memories before My mum and dad split up in '69. Both of them are dead but this song reminds me of the good times before that with a tear in my eye.

  • Try to find ,here on YT cover from former Czechoslovakia--Kdo vchazi do tvych snu,ma lasko- sang by Vaclav Neckar-. Mabye You´ll like it.

  • He took LSD in London and wrote this song. He said it in a TV documentary which I saw. But he denies it now.

  • His hair looks like the world's most awesome hat

  • @lladsbid ,

Indeed, that thatch is a thing of exquisite marvel, matching the porn star mustache quite beautifully.

  • @lladsbid lolzzzzz :D

  • @lladsbid L O fukin L !!! Brilliant ! Thanks for the laugh. If I had roommates I would have surely woken them up just now with my uncontrollable maniacal chuckle reading your comment caused.

it will always remind me of my first love becky,we sat on the duvet on the floor of her house as we dident have a sofa. i sung this to her and giggled all the way thrue but she loved it, we went our seprate ways she is still single and 1 mile away from me,in 5 year she will be ritch and in fame, but where do you go to my lovely when you alone in your bed?

what i would give to go back in time and re-live the time i spent with you.

  • @nipplebrady1988

I'm sure that were great times. And of course, I personally think that love songs from the '60s or '70s are really sweet and make me feel happy every time I listen to them.

  • @VoulantisExperiments they were i can tell you, heirs no good love songs any more, ime a fairly butch bloke but ragland road still makes me cry and this song stops me dead in my tracks

  • @nipplebrady1988 who doesnt want to back and change the past? so this time we might win? beautiful song. the story of nearly all of us

  • I really hate this song, its amazing how a piece of music can unlock bad memories.

  • @RiFFxxx

But it is a true statement; - and the tunes are beautiful as well; and so are those women playing games with mother-boys; they can only capture the mother-boys; the father-boy, or totally independent ones; they have no chance; those boy are married to boy-girls; that is; the tough ones; slim, cheetah-like; intelligent and considerate....telling their kids to "go to dad", he is more clever with kids that I am.....yeah, yeah..CHEETAH - have you ever been in bed with a woman cheetah!

  • Hotel Chevalier

  • I heard this on Radio 2 the other day, anyone else?

  • this looks like a indian patsy watchcorn!! look at that hair!

  • 24 women who forgot where they came from disliked this song.

  • why aren't there any indians making music like this nowadays? Not in Britain anyway. They all listen to that Bhangra crap.

  • Who was the guy introducing it?

  • @jasiekel86 Simon Dee

  • Simon Dee

  • it was cute then, now it's music for pretentious douchebags ew

  • lol at the people 'dancing' haha they look like zombies looking for their new victim !

  • I have loved this song since i was a little girl. Its beautiful and captivating. Also my dad was a huge Sophie Loren fan, never seen it documented that it is actualy about her but sounds about right.

  • Ex-girlfriend: Whatever happens in the end, I don't wanna lose you as my friend.

Jack: I promise, I will never be your friend. No matter what. Ever

    :D combo breaker

  • Yes, he was a one hit wonder, but, to write just one song like this in a lifetime is a true legacy left to lovers of good music. Pick any line of this song and it tells a heartfelt story, better than the monotonous repetitive crap they call music today that says nothing, samples bits of good music from the 60's and 70's to try and give it credence, then, as a final insult relies on autotune to disguise the piss poor vocals.

  • @subductionzone54 - it's very unfair to call all music today repetitive crap.

  • oh f##king yesssssss, dont make em like they used to

  • To be 18 in 1969.. so lucky. Id trade my youth and looks for the prize of living with such amazing music in its prime.

  • hallo strangers out there ... enjoy your ride on this planet :)

  • I've heard that this song was inspired by the life story of Sophia Loren..."I remember the back streets of Naples, two children begging in rags..." well, quite true, I would say...

  • Darjeeling anyone?

  • Remember this song so well. I was 18 in 1969. Glad I was young then and not now.

  • @staff50ord Oi

  • i dedicate this song to my "ex"wife

  • Anyone else first hear this song after watching Hotel Chevalier with Jason Swartzman and Natalie Portman?

  • @bleedingfetusrectum yes i did.

  • @bleedingfetusrectum billy bowles

  • @bleedingfetusrectum Actually for me after watching The Darjeeling Limited with Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman! haha didn't even realize its featured in both those movies, how weirdly coincidental!

  • @bleedingfetusrectum Wow, my bad, I didn't realize they were related movies haha.

  • @bleedingfetusrectum me :D

It was on my Darjeeling Limited DVD and I loved it so much ♥

  • @bleedingfetusrectum

Did you? I don't think so; had you, you had stayed away.....I did not mean to be rude....just some thoughts...but there are normal women; thank God...but one of those hunting money; - no thanks!!

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • @bleedingfetusrectum Never even heard of the movie and now I'll have to watch it! First heard this song in 1970/71. There are actually two versions of this song. This version and another that includes two different verses: one about embassy parties and the other about her desirable age and firm body {gasp} I can't remember which two verses were cut to include the alternate ones. I DO remember having to order the "imported" albums from the ONLY record store that sold imports back then! LOL

  • Gaga ulalala... uua lalala

  • fucking self opinionated twat....

  • After so long..great song..bad wig..:-\

  • feels like scoring. i got another song i knew but didnt know... great music from the past.

  • It is funny how some songs follow ones life story, this is one of those for me. My first wife fits with Marie... irony is we divorced in 1979, and she went her way, and I mine. Today I still drive a truck, and enjoy it. Today she is married to her fourth husband a millionaire diplomat in Ottawa. She got what she was looking for I guess... but I think I am still only one of few who actually saw inside of her.

  • @TonyB08 i'm the same pal when i met my wife she had nothing but was a beautiful person we grew together became very sucessfull and then she left me for a millionare but i'm the only person who truely knows her but i wish her luck

  • @TonyB08 I think at least 4 men got to look inside of her by the sounds of your story.

  • @TonyB08 ITs sad how sometimes thats what happends and that person never realizes it.

  • @TonyB08 My life echos exactly that my friend. difference is my wife regressed to a point of no hope at all.

I am very happy but I do miss the great person she once was.

  • @TonyB08 Nice story Tony - This song always makes me smile.

  • @TonyB08 Nice Thoughts ...very well said

  • @TonyB08 surely her gynaecologisty has seen inside too?

  • @TonyB08 -Life can't take away what you shared together man, that's one thing that always remains.

  • Hahaaa okay, soo the title should be "Where do you go to, MY LOVELY"??!! Years I wondered what the title meant, another reason why a comma is FUCKIN' IMPORTANT!

  • cool hair

  • wtf is the crowd having sex

  • @Penutbutta50cal Mate I have loved this song for 30 years but thats the funniest comment I have ever heard - from an Aussie

  • @russell101000 haha thanks man yea i love this song too and im watching this vid and i was like wtf is the crowd doing haha.

  • 23 people are idiots

  • This is the best song of all time one of hit fantaic

  • 23 people listen to gangsta-rap radio stations. While they are high.

  • @Kauwhaka I listen to Gangsta rap, I get high, and I still recognize this as being one of the most beautiful songs ever written. 23 people simply are missing out, who cares?

  • @robbanxrecords lol! Well, that's excellent! Guess there IS hope for rap fans after all! (PS: Don't tell anyone that I also like Eminem).

  • is that crowd seriously trying to dance to this song? it looked really akward. not really a song to dance to. but great song!

  • @nightfire8halo lol agreed.

  • He looks like the animated version of George Harrison come to life...

  • I'm going to play this song on my ipod when my ex girlfriend unexpectedly visits me on my hotel room

  • Since the comment has disappeared...

'With a great moustache comes great responsibility'
