I believe that Dan Kelly was truly speaking from his heart and in an honest way. All you have to do is listen to their music and you will hear every human emotion there could possibly be. He encouraged his chirldren to have friends, be real, and keep trying, in spite of hardships. They shared so much love, joy, and hope, through their music. They are still doing just that! I have been comforted, inspired, and uplifted by the music of this beautiful family! May God's blessings be theirs today!

He spoke real truth here. There is alot of hardship's growing up in a big family and alot of hard work inside the family. You can choose to make it better with some beauty which for them was singing as a family, songs of their reality which is why the songs they wrote the words are so meaningful and then their are tose big families who become lost with no meaning and have much depression or destroyed amongst themselves. Being in a big family isn't romantic!!My dad remarried and it was 9 of us!!
Dan Kelly didn't want the record companies making something out of his family that simply wasn't true or real.
He wanted to present his beautiful and talented family as they were,natural,entertaining and most importantly a normal natural family,to promote real values and family music.
Thats what he invisioned right from the start for his family,and thats what he fought for till the very end.
Unfortunately the record companies were trying to turn John into a celebrity after a hit song.
Dan Kelly was trying to tell people that he was just an ordinary man and his family were ordinary too in that they had problems and worries like any family.
In the age of celebrity worship, big record companies try to promote and paint unreal images of people to take advantage of it to make money and profit.
We miss the point of what really matters and that is that we are all human with faults,
Enjoy each others company,and whatever talents,but be yourself.

@hillena I sometimes think that Paddy may have entered the monastery because of his sexual orientation and that he may be homosexual. To alleviate some of the guilt maybe. I don't know. Just a guess. There is a lot more that I would love to know about the history of the Kelly's as well as Paddy (the stuff they didn't show us on tv).
