@Aviationnation10 yeah the exact same thing happened with my 1525. I will never buy a dell again. I;ve replaced my harddrive twice and motherboard once. I mean if I took time to list everything I've had to replace I'd lose a half hour. NEVER AGAIN. And when you call suppot/use online support expect them to be suspicious and to lose 2 hours of your life.
For those having trouble removing the media panel, first remove the battery and remove the two small screws in the battery compartment. It should be your first step! Those screws are holding the media panel in place.
Thanks for posting this video... I just followed the instructions and hope it works. So far, I don't hear the noise anymore.
A while ago I accidentally 'dropped'my laptop. It was on top of a chair which I put my clothes on. In the night, it slid off the clothes and on to the floor. Ever since then, the fan rattles slightly, and lately it's got much worse (sounded a bit like ours did just now, although it is uncommon at the moment)
I think the fall actually damaged the fan though; how would you go about replacing the fan? Assuming that your fix doesn't fix my laptop?
really awesome dude.. but it didnt work for me.. instead the noise increased .. please help me with any other idea.. or tell me that 30 step process it might help me..
Great video, thank you! I was REALLY surprised to find that the screw you were talking about wasn't even included with my dell! It must have been a popular fix!
I got it to come off simple. The sound was the exact one i was getting, and i actually managed to pop the left side of my panel off just from force of hitting the back of my laptop to get it to shut up lol. Anyways, popping off the panel isn't a scary thing, mine was partially glued shut but it's good now. I retightened the little screw that is mentioned first, and didn't mess with the other 3. Works like a charm, and no more rattling.
it was quite quick and effective. i actually just retightened the screw after finding it slightly loosened. Normal wear and tear i guess, but it did manage to work fine.
well...I thought it worked ,it's still clicking away like carzy on startup .then after a few minutes quiets down ,nice try anyway. what's with removing the little screw??
just ordered a new fan..my first dell laptop and it will be my last..there have been many issues with this computer...never again.
well...I thought it worked ,it's still clicking away like carzy on startup .then after a few minutes quiets down ,nice try anyway. what's with removing the little screw??
my fan on my 1525 rattles uncontrollably, and if i tilt it grinds on something like it is loose...
I sent it in about a year ago and those idiots at dell said the fan operated normally. (Dell lost a customer that day) i build my own desktops for the most part, but will never again by a dell laptop. Did you have to replace the fan to fix this issue? i think mine needs to be replaced.
@Crystalballer274 well, i did what you have suggested here, now to just give it some time to see if this actually will fix the rattling... It takes a while for it to get hot enough for the rattling on my machine
I was so hoping this would work but it didn't. Maybe I have a different issue. My fan isn't rattling, just making a very loud and annoying humming type noise.
WOW, I was really skeptical at first but I can't believe this actually worked. I was about to order another fan before I saw this video. Thanks alot man!!!
I tried that too, but it didn't work. The problem is the actual fan itself, so I don't see how loosening a screw would work. In my opinion that should make the rattling worse cause you have a loose part.
well, i've had a buzzing sound for over a year and i took everything apart till i got to the motherboard and just stopped at that point. I blew all the dust out and still it would buzz a similar buzz to the one in the video. Well i tried it and it runs quiet just like the day i got it and the fan still works perfect, thanks a lot cuz the buzzing was driving me crazy hearing it all the time
alright, im trying to right now. i turn it on and till it goes off its just buzzes the whole time, it ruins all my recording and stuff i do on the laptop because it just noise the whole time. if this works thanks a lot for the video.
Two: It looks like you didn't show us you taking out the screws from the battery compartment, which may be the cause of some problems for those who mention the difficulty of removing the multimedia bar.
Anyway, You gave me hope for like 2 seconds and I think the noise IS less, just not gone completely.
Just a tip for those who cant take out the panel smoothley, remove the battery and u will find two small screws, remove them then the panel will come out very easy, dont forget to put the screws back when ur done ;)
yeah! we have the same crappy computer! jk im not a computer geek but lately i've been addicted to taking my 1525 apart - mine makes alot of noise after about an hour of being on
Sadly, this did not work for me. The sound on yours is a little different than mine. It is definitely the fan and it is a rattle, but the removing the screw trick did not work. I hope I can figure it out before the fan totally goes out.
@chikaskata once you remove the 2 screws under the battery this thing pops out very easily.. Wish he would have mentioned it in this video, because i almost broke my panel trying to force it out.

@chikaskata You have to be pretty careful, however the first time it took a while. Don't be scared, the plastic is pretty flexible.

@chikaskata Be careful, some models, like mine, have two screws holding the media panel in. They are located underneath the battery
sipmarton 2 months ago
@chikaskata
There are two screws in the battery compartment that need to be undone, if you don't take these out, you'll snap the media panel!!
