there are sooo many good or excellent assault rifles in the market today: steyr aug-HK G36- FN2000- tavor-HK 416-valmet-the new AK series-FN scar- ..to name a few. the galil is a very reliable,accurate and robust weapon.ideal for combat under rough conditions.

it looks just like an m-16/m4 rifle. but operates with the reliability of an AK 47.

cover it in sand,let it fill up with water,and abuse it and it will still fire.

it is also a very versatile gun,simply attach a longer barrel and stock and you have a full rifle. or turn it into a carbine,sharpshooter, or Squad support weapon.

and the accuracy is good too!

there is a good chance that the 416 design will prevail in the future but i think in the longrun it will be weapons like the G-36 or the scar that will be more dominate they are a more simple design with less parts good accuracy and easier to produce in large numbers just my opinion

yeah, I just figure that for the U.S. military at least it would be an easy transition for them, because the handling is practically the same as handling an M-16 (I would imagine). plus all you really need is the upper reciever, they could just use the lower reciever's of M4s (and I assume,by extension, the M-16 lowers). and boom! a more reliable system perfect for the deserts and beaches! This would be especially useful for the Marine Corps.

Anything is better than the m4/m16. The HK416 is priced competetively with the M-4 and the Delta force carries them but the geniuses in D.C., as far as I've heard, are not going to authorize it for the wider military. Go figure.

I've never used a Galil. I've used an M-16. In the comments above, tFighterPilot from the IDF indicates he felt it was more of a hassle to dissasemble than the M16.

My experience with the M16 was not in combat. If the Galil is more dependable in combat conditions (which has ben the knock on the M16 since day one, I'd still prefer the Galil). However, the M16 is very light and easily disassembled.

That's cool that some Galils are made in Columbia. I'd sure like to have one.

The Israeli's do have camo BDU's, mostly American surplus. I have seen plenty of Israeli soldiers wearing American helmets. But the green uniform is standard, other branches have different uniforms (Navy and Air force are Tan, Border Police are Grey, Special Forces wear Civilian T-shirts and shoes with standard army pants). But mostly it's the standard green uniform.

IDF use the M16 and M4 because it is a lot more accurate, and it is a lot lighter than the galil. The galil is an AK47 variant. It really is just an AK47 in .223 with better sights and a longer sight radius. It is a very reliable gun though.

@avram44 The way I understand it, the Galil is first and foremost a reliable weapon. It will work when you need it to. Some even say that it is somewhat over-engineered, hence its weight. I know that it is probably not a shooting contest winner, but I would certainly love to have one. Even more so the SR-99, the Galatz's successor.
