Not one single mention about the trepidation that the Marines faced when issued the AV-8 Harrier WAY back in 1971. It too, was revolutionary for it's time and must have scared the crap out of pilots, even though it didn't have the horrible crashes and loss of life associated with the Osprey.
Speaking of which, all those crashes could have been avoided had the Osprey been sold to the Israelis................
well look, once this is a proven technology then the budget tourniquette will be loosened
this aircraft doesn't suck as you say, but it's support does, you're only as strong as the weakest member of the team and those weak members will have to up their game or get the fuck out of it
imagine support aircraft like an AV-22
an osprey protecting an osprey with a nose mounted gattling gun
but you are just an idiot you have to criticize and you don't even think your shit through to the end
How much money has t his cost the American tax payer? Too much!
Imagine? We don't pay trillions of dollars to imagine, we want results. This isn't a toy to play around with, it is a serious tool.
I dont need a $400 hammer to put in a 2 cent nail if a $20 hammer will do the same. And I dont need a 400 million dollar aircraft to do the job that is being done by a 40 million dollar aircraft
it is definately not a waste of money, once support moves up to the next generation then the osprey will have it's full potential, remember that aircraft remain in service for decades, this aircraft means so much, it means that if intel comes in that bin laden is some location, you will not miss the chance because you couldn't get there fast enough,
and helicopters aren't the only support actually this aircraft can go full speed if it gets cover from AC-130
All lightly armed troop transports need escorts into hot zones. In this case it's safer in a V-22 than a UH-60.
Why?
Because the V-22 is only highly vulnerable when inserting, it's more heavily armored, and it's got a larger window to provide covering fire than if the team dropped in a crash hawk.
In the near future this craft will likely be escorted by a more capable craft, like the f-35 that will allow full use of the speed advantage.
FINAL WORD! QUICK TROOP / Resource Deployment were other vehicle just cant go(without being a slower helicopter).
OH in the other page where you said it doesn't have weapons... its got a gunner and flairs.... not much can bring this thing down easily .... AND what will want to dring this down??? Its not an immediate threat to the enemy, it's transport. Transport throughout war history was never ever #1 target.
lol resistance AND fallout took the ideas from the US military... it was started around 20 years ago... lol MUCH MUCH MUCH earlier than resistance or Fallout
Well, it wasn't really a test, and they didn't saw real combat. I personally, still have my doubts about the Osprey. It's a great machine and a great idea. But it's quite vulnerable, like the Chinook when they try to use it as a gunship on combat, with horrible results.

This aircraft needs other helicopters protection....
No point in being fast and mobile if you still need cover of other aircraft... you cant arrive 2 hours early and not land...

The C-130 and any common APC also needs an escort, should we scrap them because a cessna and a 4x4 truck also need escorts but are much much cheaper?
