If we were to "replace the hierarchy... the global economic / rescource problems would not go anywhere. In my eyes... the biggest threat to humanity at the moment is overpopulation and the consequences of that.

for the moment... they are in my opinion required to manage their children. As a global society we are allready so far fucked... if we take out the factor of the planned de-population, if we continue along our presently projected course of consumption and breeding... durring the next century, maybe two centuries at the absolute longest- many of us are going to die in one way or another. The easiest way for nature and mankind is to do this now. Not a fun situation.
