I've been listening to this cut of Lester and Earl for over 30 years and never heard it this clear and detailed. What a treat. Must be a remastered version. What is the source? Thanks for posting!
20 yrs old and this is my favorite type of music, just something about the harmony in the voices, the harmony in the instruments, the message of the words.....
I have a CD by the same title "Preachin, Prayin and Singin." Your the first song on the CD. You guys are awesome!! Keep up the good work for the Lord!!
When I reached my teenage years I got caught up in the drugs and rock & roll scene. When I was 44 years old the Good Shepherd came for his lost sheep. Now I can be found preaching, praying, singing...

Earl played guitar instead of banjo on the "sacred" songs. The banjo was considered too frivolous of an instrument to play in Gospel music back then. So Earl would usually switch to guitar on these songs in the earlier days.
This, IMO is one of the better examples of Ear'ls guitar playing. Listen to some of the bass runs he makes behind the vocals in some of the verses, combined with the finger picking on the higher strings. And combined with the fast tempo of the song. Truly impressive. This, along with God Loves his Children are probably the best examples of his guitar work with fast tempo gospel songs.
you are very right, his guitar playing was often over looked because of his stellar banjo playing, but this is my favorite stuff that they did. i absolutley love this band. i could listen to them sing all day, and often do.
All you people who do not know that Earl Scruggs also played a great guitar, you can find him doing so right here on youtube. Usually on the gospel songs. But also on Flatt and Scruggs' rendition of Jimmy Brown the Newsboy, and others.
Check out the video of F & S doing "You are my Flower" with Maybelle Cater. It shows Earl playing guitar. Lester strums while Earl plays lead fingerpicking style.
no actually earl played the guitar alot. earl was not only a pioneer on the banjo, but on the guitar as well. you can hear his playing truely showcased on the songs of the famous carter family album. he plays guitar on that album more than he does banjo. he was a huge influence on guys like doc watson and the other great pickers of the ol flattop

Just be sure to read the whole King James Bible, and not just listen to music and go to church houses.

Earl's guitar playing always reminded me of Mother Maybelle, considering Earl said," She was my hero." But nothing can compare to his banjo playing.

Earl Scruggs great guitar playing.

Sorry, Earl played the Banjo. Lester played the Flat-Top.

Sorry, BreathDoctor, but this is Earl on the guitar. Trust me. He played a killer guitar. Lester was only a rhythm guitarist.
