I notice rescue dogs are usually the most sweet, loving ones. My friend(s) had rescue dogs and they had the biggest personalities even if they were sickly upon arrival. They thrive so long as you give them the little bit of food and TLC they require. Sweet story.

Omg I looked like Maya 5 years ago but I'm 12 now and I used to have siezures like 5 times a day and sometimes during my sleep at night. I had to keep going to the doctors for 6 1/2 years and they couldn't figure out why I was having seizures but 2 years ago they found this problem in my right side of the brain and I had to have brain surgery. I'm so glad j don't have seizures anymore because I always felt like I didn't fit in at school.

It is very hard on you and your family, I'm sure, but the heaviness she's feeling is too much for her to bear right now. The strange thing is Scientists have conducted tests checking for everything they can think of and still haven't figured out how the dogs do it.(last I heard) In most cases they can't even predict the seizures before hand with EEG's etc but somehow the dog's can sense it. .

This is why some people with epilepsy have golden retrievers/labradors and bring them every where they go, because the dogs can somehow sense that the person is going to have a seizure before they do, so they can make sure they're seated & comfortable beforehand and won't fall and injure themselves.
Even more incredible dogs have been shown to sense when someone has certain types of cancer....

animals can be so in tune to their owners. My "throw away" husky learned that I was hard of hearing and was quick to alert me to any noise he felt was important. It gave me a great deal of peace to know that my inabilty to hear someone outside of my home was no longer an issue. Him and my lab both also knew to sit and wait when elderly relatives arrived, but large strong men got "attacked" by the two. (attacked with kisses and hugs!)
I agree with you on how pets can be so in tune with their owners. My grandfather's lab surprises me every day. He is incredibly gentle with my grandfather who cannot walk very well. He also knows how to get people and tries to push my grandfather up if he falls. And he does this all without special training!
There are enough animals being euthanized every year. Spending hundreds at a breeder for a fancy novelty pet only adds to the problem. Humane Society animals are also more socialized and have knowledgeable staff that can give you vital information on an individual cat or dog.... A breeder won't tell you anything that might ruin a sale....like health risks from generations of inbreeding. ^_^ Adoption is a better option.
@Alysaria Not all 'purebreds' are ""fancy novelty pets with generations of inbreeding"". Similarly, not all breeders are scummy puppymills who're out to con you. Some shelters are just as wily as puppymills if they feel they can get a long-term/troublesome resident off their hands. Some first-time owners I knew got conned into taking a Collie with severe hyperactivity and herding issues.
I've had both rescue crossbreeds & purebreds; wherever you get it, a good dog is just a good dog.

My daughter has seizures since she's 13, she's 17 now. We got a new dog, an American Bulldog puppy when he was 5 months old he was pacing up & down the hallway, stopping outside my daughters door, then pacing again. I realized this was strange behaviour & checked my daughter & sure enough she was having a seizure in her sleep. We could not hear or see her but somehow he knew! Amazing!

It isn't fair to judge one dog breed by the actions of a few. The animal learns by how they are treated by humans-if they are treated kindly, they will respond the same way. Same if they are treated badly. Think about this before posting any negative comments
@CelticDragon0 It is a completely legitimate judgement to be prejudice towards certain breeds based on their known and problematic history. The fact is pitts and rotties have miserable reputations for a reason, that reason being no matter how they are raised they have the ability and even tendency to turn. I've had it happen, so have my friends and family members. The dogs are banned in high traffic areas for this very reason. The best dogs are mutts. They are loyal to the end.

Terrier mix, I wonder what the other dog is? This dog looks adorable. I'm a lab fan, got a pure bred English show dog, but would love to get a clone of little Jack.
Another similar case was where a severely epileptic lady had a golden retriever, and the golden could sense that a seizure was coming even before it happened and was able to warn the lady every time.
This proves that dogs have a heightened sense that we don't have. It is just like how many animals are able to perceive that bad weather is coming well before it does; they must be able to sense small chances in the magnetic field or something...

This dog was raised like a member of the family. I refuse to live in an area where pits are allowed because of the fact they will turn. There is a reason they aren't allowed in most apartments, any military base or most dog parks. They are unpredictable and attack without provocation or just cause. Period.

I was bullied by the other children at school because I walk funny and when I found Buster in the woods he became my best friend. Everyday I used to come home crying because of the kids but my dog changed my tears to happiness when he waited by the bus stop everyday until he passed away when I was in 8th grade. I tihkn thats how the dog grew so close to the child so fast. He knew the girl needed a friend.

@lucyjin82 Fair enough. :) My main point is just that if you're only looking for a companion and not a show-dog, herding dog, or another breed with a very specific purpose...it's better to look at a shelter first.

My daughter has seizures since she's 13, she's 17 now. We got a new dog, an American Bulldog puppy when he was 5 months old he was pacing up & down the hallway, stopping outside my daughters door, then pacing again. I realized this was strange behaviour & checked my daughter & sure enough she was having a seizure in her sleep. We could not hear or see her but somehow he knew! Amazing!

It isn't fair to judge one dog breed by the actions of a few. The animal learns by how they are treated by humans-if they are treated kindly, they will respond the same way. Same if they are treated badly. Think about this before posting any negative comments

@CelticDragon0 It is a completely legitimate judgement to be prejudice towards certain breeds based on their known and problematic history. The fact is pitts and rotties have miserable reputations for a reason, that reason being no matter how they are raised they have the ability and even tendency to turn. I've had it happen, so have my friends and family members. The dogs are banned in high traffic areas for this very reason. The best dogs are mutts. They are loyal to the end.

Another similar case was where a severely epileptic lady had a golden retriever, and the golden could sense that a seizure was coming even before it happened and was able to warn the lady every time.
This proves that dogs have a heightened sense that we don't have. It is just like how many animals are able to perceive that bad weather is coming well before it does; they must be able to sense small chances in the magnetic field or something...

@zambrano9666 Because a pit IS a bad dog. They absolutely turn. It doesn't matter how it is raised, it probably will turn. Just like a rottweiler. I put one rotty down after biting 3 times. This dog was raised like a member of the family. I refuse to live in an area where pits are allowed because of the fact they will turn. There is a reason they aren't allowed in most apartments, any military base or most dog parks. They are unpredictable and attack without provocation or just cause. Period.

I was bullied by the other children at school because I walk funny and when I found Buster in the woods he became my best friend. Everyday I used to come home crying because of the kids but my dog changed my tears to happiness when he waited by the bus stop everyday until he passed away when I was in 8th grade. I tihkn thats how the dog grew so close to the child so fast. He knew the girl needed a friend.
