1991 GRAMMYS MC HAMMER PERFORMANCE BEST I HAD EVER SEEN OF ALL TIMES COPY PAST SEE THAT MY MAN BE DOIN DANCIN HIS THING BOY OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOY 1991 FOR REAL
You Hammer is from Oakland? Most who know Hammer say that Hammer would roll with the Hardest Crews. Ask Chris Rock, who was scared of Hammer after he made a joke about Suge Knight in his comedy.
The guy was born in 1962. He tried to jump on the gangsta rap bandwagon when he was 32 (and already a multi-millionaire) in 1994 with the release of The Funky Headhunter. He was not brought up in a gangsta rap background, it was purely a commercial decision and it failed. He was living in a $12 million mansion at the time of his venture into gangast rap.
You are wrong. When did he EVER say he was gangsta? NEVER!!! He even said real gangstas don't make rap albums. The Funky Headhunter was about him getting back at those who dogged him on their albums. He got love from Suge, Snoop, and Tupac. They called him. Watch Inside Deathrow, here on youtube. Suge wanted to prove to those talking about Hammer that he still had it. The Media said he was gangsta because he dressed different. Is that what the WHITE media calls gangsta? Get real.
He put on the LA gang type gear (just look at the clothes he wears in the interview) and tried talk street. A purely commercial ploy that backfired because he was already associated wth another equally silly image which he couldnt shake. It would be like Michael Jackson coming out and pretending to be a hardcore rapper from da street.
@innit27 Michael Jackson coming out and pretending to be a hardcore rapper would be the most insane funny thing possible...too bad it will never happen now
He and Vanilla Ice really got fucked, image wise, by their first label trying to make the music consumer friendly. My dad worked sound for Hammer for the North American leg of the '92 tour and said that the man was very different from the record label's image and as he's an old boy from Oakland I'm guessing that this was common attire for his day to day, I mean, he didn't sleep in those puffy pants.
He had four platinum (three multi-platinum) records. That is not a one-hit wonder. Hammer believe in help his community. He didn't just talk about giving back, he gave back. Tupac was the same way, that is probably why they became friends. They believed in helping young black brothas succeed in life, and keeping them off the streets. Tupac also had a big heart, behind the facade. If you ask Hammer was he gangsta, he would ALWAYS say no. Rappers are doing today what he did back then.
People can talk all that noise about MC Hammer hatting on him, trying to say he was a wannabe ganster...music was changing during this time and fashion is forever changing...so if Hammer wore the same baggy pants today or If I wore some of the stuff we wore back in the day it would look off! Nobody ever talks about Dr Dre used to be a member of the World Class Wrecking Crew wear lace earings and makeup just like a chick...and then he turned "gangster" in NWA.
Suge and Hammer was friends. The goal was to help eachother out. Deathrow would promote Hammer and they would also clean up their image, which is what they were trying to do, but ity all fell through, because of Suge's legal troubles, and Tupac (Hammer's best friend at Deathrow) getting killed. Hammer has always defended certain rappers. He defended Ice-T when he made the song Cop Killer. He defended Snoop for what he does. The only people he badmouthed were the ones who talked about him.
As we all know Hammer´s wannabe gangster image (around 1994/5) did not work out well after being a "pop rapper" for several years...later on he even tried to adopted other images which all did not work out either: For example the "very religious" Hammer (from 1997), Hammer "the patriot" (around 2001/2002), and yet again Hammer "the mainstream orientated rapper" (around 2006).
Hammer never said he was gangsta, that was the media, but he was from Oakland, so he was no punk. His lyrics have always been hard "Turn this Mutha Out." In his songs he has always told everyone that they were weak and he was the best, but he also rapped about real life. Today, the rap industry is filled with Hammers. They are doing what he was called a sell out for. But Suge said that black people were jealous, because he had the money and the attention.
No, he never said he was gangsta. WHy can't he wear regular clothes. In 90, that was cool. It is not now. See him now, he's doing well, and he never complains. He's a regular guy, someone you could hang out with.
mark lammar you are a nutcase, i remember seeing this when i was out of my tree after a rave and my friends and me wet ourselves laughing for about 2 days
i remember mark shitting it when he went in olly reeds dressing room on acess all areas.Olly was like "who are you the fucking bell boy" or something like that
"Primal Scream, playing a single from their new album called......erm "Exile on Mainstreet" I think" Brilliant, Bobby Gillespie really does come across like a Scottish version of Mick Jagger.
So bad he changed like that, his style, his songs, but that brought his fall, and lost popularity. It was just the best when he was in the times like: u can't touch this.
@Sadie0223 I am the girl on the right with the long brown hair. Mark was not so funny or great-BUT in this interview he was fine and MC Hammer went mad at him during he intervial. Mark did not diserve it.
@EB1050482 Its a real shame this clip misses the funniest part of all later on in the show when he keeps calling him a Christian rapper until he explodes. This was the bit I was specifically looking for!
