  • Yes it did happen. I was there. USS Ranger 1964 spying on the french nuclear tests.

  • where do you store the thing on an aircraft carrier? haha

  • This takes amazing skill. Respect for the pilots. I didn`t know they tried this, thank you uploader.

  • damn, that is impressive.

  • U-2... The only plane that needs training wheels to take off.

  • this dude had bangin brass balls to even agree to try this.

  • wow what a pro pilot... it looks very very difficult to land that on a carrier.... it looks deadly

  • that must be scary for the pilot. Those things are built to fly, not to land, and putting one of 'em down on a shoebox in the ocean takes a big set of balls.

  • Im surprised by this, it seems to do a pretty good job of landing and taking off on a carrier, probably becuase it weighs so little.

  • Taking off and possible landing isnt a problem....the real issue would be storing it ahahah

  • NE LISEZ PAS CE MESSAGE !! Je sais pas si je dois le croire mais je préfére pas prendre le risque Désolé

  • @r0Mx9 Ta gueule.

  • This is Project Whale Tale .

  • A cat shot would rip it to pieces.

  • Well don't this just tear the rag off a bush!

  • the thing about this, launching it from a carrier, i cant see if they are using the catapult or not but i would think it would be unnessisary, she will lift off so quick from a land runway that im thinking with 20+ knots of wind over the deck she wouldnt need a cat shot.

  • @revjoerg No catapult, she launches on her own, that's another reason she's so beautiful.

  • lol if this plane is the most hardest plane to land in a normal runway I guess it the most impossible to land on a carrier...the plane is no f-18 they cant afford to crash an U-2 or even lose an U-2 pilot that simply cant happen

  • i had no idea it could do that

  • It's still a workhorse! All the way back with keeping eyes on problem states near us if you know what I mean.

  • What a beautiful airplane the U-2 was !!

    Greetings from Germany..

  • @VelvetViolator

Not was.......is. There is a U-2 airborne right now over some area of interest.

Another Kelly Johnson miracle. And one that has maintained it's spot in the new world order.

Nobody does it better. Trust, but verify. The Dragon Lady is ready.

    Lee

  • @leeflhx: Really?? I thought the SR-71 ( the most beautiful airplane, besides the A-12, that I´ve ever seen !) took over back in the 70´s !!!?

  • @leeflhx they are still being operated and are they used in the afghan/iraq war currently? i thought they were long stopped. sr71 is def long retired correct?

  • @KuostA yeah the blackbird is retired along time ago and about the U-2 ....I think with all the drone planes above afghanistan theres no point for the U-2 there......U-2 flies where no one is , no one will even known they were there, I live in the caribbean Puerto Rico they have been landing few times in the past months here, wonder where they were?? lol probably south america the base is really close for the U-2 to fly into Cuba but I dont think there is a point of flying this days into Cuba

  • @VelvetViolator u 2s still in service
