London is like the world in a city. If you did a straw poll on the tube you'd find most people are not from the UK. English people will hold back a bit but once they get to know you they will be your friend for life. If someone is overtly charming & smiling & loud it comes across as insincere & like they want something from you. London is also a densely populated capital. People have long days and a hard commute so you are not catching them at their best. It's not a true reflection of the UK.
english breakfast is the best try being hungover and eating egg bacon beans and fried bread sorts you right out,,, and no america i dont want my fucking eggs over easy
@wolfthing11 Actually most of us can name lots of US states (between me and my friends when we were at school we could easily name all of them) its not really that hard...
The overriding theme here seems to be "were gonna have to pay to get fat" and "everythings so much more expensive" (until get into an accident then get free healthcare)!
You can get refills. Go to Nandos or Subway. And what's wrong with bacon, beans and mushrooms. It doesn't stop Americans from eating them. Oh, and the reason why we don't speak on the tube is because there is no cellphone signals.
why is it socially unacceptable to sit near to someone on a bus/public transport if theres other seats available? try out peruvian buses where ur personal space is about 3cm and theres tunes banging out and people jumpin on n off non stop and u realise how depressing british buses and attitudes are....on a side note the guy being interviewed here is a prat sayin shit like 'cellphones are international now'....not everything comes out of america ffs
Just to say the reason why noone talks on the tube is because if someone talks to you you either.. (get robbed, bum raped, get talking to a crazy person, offered drugs, stabbed, or abuse, the only other conversation would be about the weather) as you can see all of these things are undesirable to talk about, so on the tube most people dont talk because they dont want to be in a claustrophic container that stinks of piss / vomit
OK to clear something up here, Britain is not London. Americans if you want to get an impression of British culture you need to go to cities like Chester, Leeds, Brighton. Those are cities that actually reflect British culture London does not. Its a great place to be but because it is such a metropole city it can not reflect culture properly.
London is so different so a lot of the rest of the UK, and we do have other things for breakfast. And not talking on the tube, defiantly just a London thing, if you where on a train in the north, it would be completely different.
He's right about the tube (London Underground, whatever you call it). It's the same with buses and trains. In the UK we generally keep to ourselves and mind our own business. You find people are more talkative to strangers in the North of England, but we're all less sociable with strangers than Americans.
WARNING TO ALL STUDENTS: You are strongly adviced to STAY AWAY from a private tutoring company called University and Academy Tutors (UAT), based at Jesson House in Coventry, England. This company was previously known as ICUT (UK), but the owner of the company, "Dr." Vincent McKee, was outed by Sky News in January 2011 as a FRAUDSTER. McKee then changed his company's name to UAT (GB) and his OWN name to "Patrick Murphy." Sky News AGAIN exposed him in March 2011. He now calls himself PATRICK KELLY
Funnily enough about that thing with the tube, is that I am from a fairly small town in the county of staffordshire in the west midlands, and I also noticed the difference in London that you mentioned. However like any place, the culture of the people changed from area to area, as where im from people often strike up a conversation at bus stops and in the street quite regularly. Someone has pointed out to me, that Londoners had to live through the 7/7 bombings so are more wary on the tube.
@TeenagePrinccess Well, I live in California, which has great authentic Mexican cuisine, considering how close we are to Mexico. However, in New York, with a large Mexican population as well, pales in comparison to the Mexican food in San Diego. I actually went to a few what was supposed to be a really good Mexican restaurants and it was terrible, they didn't even have molé! After trying Mexican in New York with many Mexicans in New York, you can see ho Mexican food in London might be disgusting
I am 29 and I live in the UK. I have visited the U.S. 5 times and the difference is Americans are much politeful, houses are bigger + different inside, all drive on the right, gotta pay tips.
I prefer the UK lifestyle to be honest but i prefer the HOT Summers and sightseeing over there.
Can i just say that, if you ever come to the UK again go to different parts of the UK such as Wales. Not Everyone in the UK is English and not every speaks English! London is the typical stereotype of the UK, try going to a small village instead of a massive city! Its completely different!!!!
@plzIneedhelp It's different in Europe though, because places have hundreds of years of history and have had time to develop very individual cultures and historical buildings and artefacts.
@xtrashed Lol- because most visitors to Britain only go to London. They rarely visit all the other beautiful cities in the British Isles. Lack of education here in the States contributes to the ignorance, I'm afraid.
@xtrashed : Well The English dont exactly talk about South Carolina.....more like California, NY, etc .............It's because it's well known......same with Paris, we associate that with France, etc
@xtrashed why when british people talk about the US they only talk about New York City? New York City is only ONE city in the US, and its because my country is soo fucking stupid the only UK city they know is London
EnzoRDS--you're right. The original title of the video was supposed to deal with only London and, basically, Syracuse, NY. However, something got miscommunicated when it was aired and the title changed. However, I do agree--I visited most of England, Scotland, and Wales and would certainly agree that people in London are quite different than those I encountered elsewhere. My apologies if anyone was offended.
@ryguy417 I agree, I've lived my entire life in the English countryside, been to London 3 times, everytime I go it's incredibly difficult to adjust to.
@DeadlyAntenna One of the main differences, I think, is what the man mentioned about us being very private, in the country everyone's really friendly and sociable and welcoming, you can go out on your own for a pint and make 10 new friends, in London, the vast majority of people I met or encountered were very closed off, reserved, and private.
Interesting he talked about "London". "London" is very different to other parts of the UK. People in London are more hostile, and less talkative to strangers, whereas people in the north are more open. There is different cultures in the UK. It's like a Brit going to Los Angeles, and talking as if he's seen the whole of America. People are different in all the cities of the UK, London is different. People in Liverpool are so different to the people of London for example.
