  • grim was shit with the hawks he did improve over the years he beat brashear couple of times easily.

  • Grimson was a legitimate heavyweight in his time but he clearly wanted NO part of Kocur in this one and gave us a lesson in holding on for dear life.

  • @theroc5851 Because all of those goals Hossa scored in the playoffs really helped. Now look at the Hawks. AHAHAH HEY FAGGOT THE HAWKZ ROOL YOU BRUSHEZ YOUR TEEF WITH A SHOE BITCHH

  • "jack Hammer Joey" What a tough dude was. Killer right

  • The Wings teams with Probert and Kocur were not a match for the Hawks when it came to playing Hockey.

  • That explains why the wings won the cup in 97!

  • probert didn't play for the wings in 97 moron .

  • I know moron, McCarty and Kocur did. Seems in 95 the Wings elimnated the Hawks from the playoffs, Hawks lost in first round in 94. Lets see how the Hawks and the Wings do next year alright? As of right now the Hawks are still a second place team. You traded Havlat for Hossa, thats a downgrade and after this year you will be agreeing with me. You also lost goaltending depth. In my opinion you only got worse.

  • we will see won't we. If Detroit does not win this year, the seats will be more empty than last year, if that is possible. Hockey town? what a joke. Go Lions!

  • @cjm502 : yes actually, it does. Neither Kocur or Probert were with the Wings in 97. I don't think Kocur was even with them in the 90's.

  • Kocur was with them in 91, 97, 98, and 99.

  • @cjm502

    twerp.....lol

  • @huntercalgary bigger twerp lol

  • Kocur wins despite the reach advantage..no Hawk fighter was ever really a match for the Bruise Brothers.

  • Love the organ music in the background. Sets the mood nicely.

  • hold on for dear fucking life stu...

  • Just got done reading th eBruise Brothers book.Kocur was hurt in the 90-91 season, which made getting rid of him easier.

  • The Grim had too much reach advantage.

  • Huh?

He took a lot of punishment in this fight for someone with a reach advantage.

  • re.The Grim--hey Mich, get real he lost the fight

  • 2 of the greatest ice hockey fighters, in a duel to the "death" :P

  • JOHN 5:24

  • Seemed like Grimson was content to fight defensively and wait for the refs to stop it while he held Kocur's jersey. Grimson knew of his power and wanted nothing to do with it.

  • Last I heard Kocur is a cop in a small town just outside Detroit. I would not want to get punched in the face by him.

  • oops I might be thinking of dino cicerelli my bad

  • NICE CORRECTION,

  • Yep, that guy really knew how to punch like a boxer. Most of those goons have zero hitting skills.

  • kocur and probert both honed their fighting skills at the famous kronk gym in detroit. i grew up in detroit and for my money, there were no tougher fighters in the nhl, ever!

  • clark gillies is another

  • man, i must have come into kocur's career way late. all the wings games that i saw, i rarely ever saw joey get into it. he was an animal. AAAANNNNIIIIIIMMMMMAAAALLLLLLLL! I DID HEAR THAT HE AUDITIONED FOR A casting ROLE IN "queer eye for the straight guy" just kidding, where'd that come from...

  • Kocur was the best. He had way too much power for anyone to go toe to toe with him. He beat them all. Domi said he's one scary person...Probert, Brashear..they all said he's the toughest.

  • a fight grimson won? apart from the long list of batterings he dealt out mid late nineties i suppose one punch tko's of reid simpson, odgers and darren langdon(to name only a few) could be called wins. grimson was a christian a degree educated family man, an a fucking psycho on the ice

  • Yeah, what he said! Grimson was definitely one of the most feared fighters in the NHL. Idiotic comment from bobeee1969.

  • Does anyone know of a fight that Stu Grimson actually won???

  • Kocur, Probert, Twist, Grimson, Ewen, Mcsorly, Nilan, Brown, etc, etc, etc retired, over eight years, let it go. Mid eighties to early ninties was prime time.

  • No it would not be a different story. They fought when Grimson was a redwing, Kocur a ranger, draw and when Grimson was a duck, Kocur a ranger draw. When will people realize youtube doesn't have every fight

  • Grimson had not quite developed good balance yet...so he struggled in fights against guys who were strong on their skates like Kocur and Probert. The was Kocur in his prime...Stu on his way up...if he fought the Grim Reaper about 5 years later, it would have been a different story. In this one, Kocur scores often...and takes it. Nicely done, Joey

  • old stadium was the place boy old memories there

  • Gotta love the ol' Chicago Stadium organ playing while they're fighting LOL Better fighter, Kocur or Probert?

  • Probie played more and had more fights. He was also quicker. Kocur was more dominant and was more dangerous to the health of his opponent. Much more likely to K.O. someone. The best decider, is to look at their fights against each other. Neither one had much of an advantage. A draw. They were different and equally as effective.

  • I would have to agree. Kudos to any player that fought them both on the same night. They were quite a force when they were teammates.

  • Thanks. Too bad Detroit traded Kocur for Cummins! What a shitty fighter, was Cummins!

  • It's misleading to say the Red Wings traded Kocur for Cummins. Cummins was a throw-in as part of a larger deal. The primary player Detroit received in return for Kocur was Kevin Miller. Dennis Vial also came over from the Rangers, and Per Djoos went to New York along with Kocur.

  • True. I apologize. I just hated seeing Kocur go!

  • boston bruins what a fucking joke

  • ochiese, obviously they would do well because Kocur is 43 fucking years old you moron. Kocur and probert trained in the offseason with the legendary Kronk boxing team. In their prime, they could go with ANYBODY, and I'm not a wings fan, I'm a Bruins fan. They were the 2 toughest guys in the league for nearly a decade, end of story.

  • Back in the eighties Kocurs playing weight was 209 lbs, 220lbs second visit to detriot,

  • That's a big guy!

  • Wow! Kocur was fucking strong! You may not notice it, but Grimson is 6'5"! Kocur, only 6 ft. However, Kocur was 220 lbs. of muscle. Only 10 lbs. lighter than Grimson.

  • Looks like Grimson was holding on for his life

  • I have it on tape of basil mcrae fighting chris niln back when demers coached the wings

  • there is only 1 man tougher than joey kocur. that man is chuck norris.

  • sav fight

  • This Grimson-Kocur fight is one of the best I've seen.

Todd Bertuzzi isn't a great enforcer like the Grim Reaper and Kocur.

  • Nobody was tougher than Kocur. Fists like steel.

  • Mickey Redmond is a drunken mic

  • Best fight I ever saw was Wendall Clark against Behn Wilson, you talk about two cement heads. Bombs were landed and neither blinked.

  • amazing how Grim could held all thoe punches! Kocur can break a brick by his punch.

  • Kocur and Probert were on the same team for a while. Gallant too. No wonder Stevie Wonder scored all those goals, he had all kinds a space!!

  • yup, in fact at any one time Stevie Y had Bob Probert-Joe Kocur-Gerard Gallant-Harold Snepts-Basil MacCrae- Randy McKay-Dennis Vial . . . it was like the Kronk Gym on ice. Back then McCarty was still a pup.

  • I remember Kocur having a couple of stints w/ the Wings. I think he and Probert went at it at the UC in Chicago when Probie played for the Hawks. Those guys you listed were tough and had heart.(McCarty too) I don't know so much about the guys playing these days. I miss the good old days.

  • me too, mee too. Red Wings had some bad dudes, now we just have one, and that's Bertuzzi, and he's not really an enforcer.

  • Bertuzzi is a pussy if there's ever been one, he shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as all those other fighters.

  • what did I say, I said he isn't an enforcer.

  • yeah, and he's not a bad dude. he's a pussy! and a shitty teammate! you'll see, they're already calling to bench him. he's got a bad attitude.

  • Hey qt41, Basil McRae never played for Detroit. It was his younger brother Chris McRae. My aunt dated him.

  • In 1985 Basil signed as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings but was traded back to his original team, the Nordiques along with John Ogrodnick and Doug Shedden for Brent Ashton, Gilbert Delorme and Mark Kumpel. I just googled it. That, and I recall seeing Basil on the ice at the Joe.

  • Ya, you are right GT41. Sorry about that. I just googled it myself. Chris his brother could really throw'em too. I've got an old tape called "Ice Wars" their's alot of AHL fights. In one fight he's fighting domi before they were in the NHL. Great tilt.

  • Kocur was tough...hard puncher...but he wasn't going to hurt The Grim Reaper....

  • Joe Kocur was one tough cookie

  • Yes he was.

  • seen better seen worse
