The purpose of the calibration is to tune the monitor so that it produces the color as closely as intended by the application, be that PhotoShop, a picture sent to you, or video. I must answer "yes"; this is good for video editing.
I got the eye 1 and what a difference it made. However, the color profile saved as sRGB. My camera is set up for Adobe RGB. Can I do a monitor calibration and save it for Adobe RGB? Thanks again.
I'll asnwer in multiple parts, due to character limits:
If you were unable to find the monitor profile you created, where are you trying to find it? My guess would be that youre trying to select your profile (e.g. in Photoshops Color Settings or your Display Properties) but the only one thats showing up in the list is sRGB. If thats the case, the profile probably isnt in the right folder on your system.
Your monitor profile is probably capable of more colors (a bigger color gamut) than sRGB. However, there are only a couple of very high-end monitors out that are actually capable of displaying all of the colors in the Adobe RGB color space.
Thanks for this video. If you are not a teacher, you should be. You were very concise and made the fear of the dreaded color calibration disappear. Thanks again. Daniel
I don't know which is better. The Huey has the PANTONE name, which may be a plus, as PANTONE is a leader in color. However, the Spyder could very well be as good. I haven't studied the differences, nor have I heard any dialogue about the differences.
You'll probably do OK with either one.
You might try searches Google with terms similar to "monitor calibration forum" or "Huey vs Spyder", or a term that leads you to forums where people are talking about the differences between the two.
Your best bet for just the monitor is the Pantone Huey. Inexpensive, easy, and it works.
Other items like the i! line of products will allow you to expand, but it starts out more expenvsive and goes up from there. Unless you are a printer, or professional photgrapher, the Huey should do it for you.
very cool, i was thinking about buying one of these, but a basic one. I just want my monitor to display the proper colors. Any clue which is a cheap but yet good one?
Me too, but I don't know how to do that, yet. I'd like to get around to studying it, but right now I'm only qualified to treat it superficially, like I did here. Maybe in the future!
Cool song on your channel, by the way. ("A world divided...")

Thank you for the response! I was also looking at the Spyder2Express for PC/Mac. Is that one considered any good? Which is better between the two?

I wish you had shown how to calibrate the black point, white point, gama, and color temperture using the X-rite i1 Display 2.
