  • this is good i member when i was in high school we did a quartet and we only did tags but you guys are the best you guys should meet and go around the world doing contest

  • this is the only barbershop multitrack video of bhsnerd singing on youtube...what happened to him? he had some quality tags up!

  • make a song!

  • I think my heart just burst from awesomeness overload....

  • I sang this tag last night for the first time since doing this video. Good times. =)

  • @nbro085 you should record more tags!

  • You guys are somthin else! This is awesome! I definitely want to hear more of you guys! Keep it up bros.

  • Why are they called barbershop tags?

  • @jkman10 why wouldn't they be called that?

a barbershop tag is the last series of chords in a barbershop song. It's usually the most fun part to sing!

  • Superman Nick Brown, you sir, look like you are having TOO much fun singing those high notes in chest voice! For example, your slide up on the 2nd "up"! Love it!

  • @bordonthestreet Well to be honest, I don't think I can pick out all 4 different parts quite yet... I haven't yet shared in the glory and splendor that is barbershop, and I really have no idea even how to begin to understand it on that level. That's the only reason why I'd like to see it as well as hear it :) Much respect for people that can do that, though...

  • I'd like to see this arrangement, if it's easily shareable

  • @johnpaddie why see it, when you can hear it?

I don't think any of these guys have it written down. I know I don't lol

  • The lead here is fantastic. You can see his face as he intensely focuses on keeping his breath even. I find that a bit comical.

    Very well done!

  • What equipment would you use to make it easy to sync tracks recorded at different times and different locations with different recorders? I used to record music with two other guys but we were all at the same place. Now, I'm interested in us recording tracks at different places and times and then stitching them together as has been done in this video. Anyone have a link to good info on doing this?

  • i peed a little.

  • amazing!!

  • good to know superman brown is still out there :D

the world of barbershop wouldnt be the same without you!

  • Anyone know what he hell hole Nick Brown fell into? Still, this thing is 2 years old and Simon's hangin that tag like a friggin' champ.

  • I'm still alive!! =D

  • Very good harmony...well worth listening to...I'm trying to get a quartet together but not easy. This is excellent...great chord unity! Excellent!!!

  • WOW!!!! You guys are incredible!

  • maybe you could expand on the multi-person tags

something like scarborough fair with a different person on each part would be epic =P

  • i'm currently learning scarborough fair in my barbershop ensemble at uni... i'll let you know when i get it up.

  • *suscribed* =)

  • nice post simon

  • the tenor is awesome....

  • NICE.

  • Dood this stuff is absolutely amazazing. You guys are great! Hope to see more from you in the future!

  • definite overtone on the final chord

  • i was taken by surprise out how high simons note is in that first climax. I was like ...heh....thats high

  • hehe, that wasn't Simon :p We were singing different parts before the post. Brandon was singing tenor, then dropped down the octave to bari, I sang lead, switching to tenor, Simon was bari, switching to the lead post.

  • never heard of me?! now I've seen it all..

  • why do they change the vowel "the" at the end? thah.........ehhhhhh band"

  • i think it is more so you don't get the hard consent of TH at the end. So it makes it sound on more of a soft tone then a hard tone.

  • it's "Strike up that band"

  • I think it was maybe so we could match the vowels of "the", and of Simon's "band"...

  • at the very end, each one has a different expression. the bass's face says "whoa!" baritone, "there goes anther perfect tag of mine" lead "yeaaah suck on that one!" tenor "uh...what now?"

  • not only the music (which is great), but the meaning of this work - guyz from distant places singing together. i hope there will be more and more.

  • glad to see everyone here is on the same side, no arguments.. wohh.. these guys rock!!!!

  • lol i've subscribed to all of these guys before this video was even made

  • That was INCREDIBLE! You guys ROCK! Well worth the effort it must have taken to make this!

  • MOOOORE!!!!!

  • Four of the five top multitrackers in one video. This is awesome. The only guy you're missing is daniscool99.

If you did a five part tag like Lone Prairie including him, the video would be epic. Not just because of the vocalists, but because I absolutely love that tag.

  • good idea lol

  • Lone Prarie is getting too overdone though. They should do black sheep instead. ;)

  • no no these are the cream of the crop... no dan isnt on a top 5 list.

  • wow u guys are hot as

  • This is an awesome video! Thanks for sharing all of your talents!

  • this is SO cool that you guys are so International!!!

  • Woah Epic singing!! and the Long Long Note from simon! its awesome!

  • Wow! TOp left. from 0:13 to 0:37...WTF!?!!

  • because he is awesome...

  • actually, even longer, cause he breathed in at 0:10

  • My favorite part is the bass hand gesture at the end of the tag. Like "YES". It is so classic bbs.

  • Well there a a lot of multitrack collaborations on Youtube - but this is definitely *the* multitrack collaboration video :). Please do more stuff like this!

  • well thats an awesome way to practice... i wanna see you guys actually do something with this...

  • LOVE IT!! i just love global collaborations, the internet really brings poeple together, its great!!

  • ahhhh that was soo tight!!!!

  • awesome job guys...I sent this to my mom and she'll send it around. I swear she is the reason internet videos become famous. Anyway, i'm a musician myself, not much of a singer, but am taking lessons. What software do ya'll recomend for making multitracks?

  • Thanks Marine, There's plenty out there. In this recording I was using some free software for audio, called Audacity. you can download it online. I think most of the other guys use crazy expensive stuff. It's fine to be low budget tho lol. Happy hunting

  • guys!!! that is just unbelievable!! great work...there has to be more please!!! any aussies doing barbershop?

  • There's a whole ASSOCIATION of Aussies doing Barbershop! Look up AABS: Australian Association of Barbershop Singers!

Each summer, they, and other affiliates of the Barbershop Harmony Society (including NZABS [New Zealand], BABS [British], SNOBS [Swedish/Nordish Organization of], BiNG [Barbershop in Germany], etc.) field their own champion Quartets and Choruses to compete with the BHS District representatives at the International Convention and Contests!

  • In recent years, the NZABS (Music Island Boys [videos of them are available here on YouTube™]) representative has WON the International Collegiate Quartet Championship! Also, a few years ago, the International Quartet Champion (not Collegiate, but the BIG contest!) was Realtime (videos of them are available here), which included an actual Aussie in its membership!

  • Man, I still have trouble believing this video: four guys from literally all over the planet who have never met singing in perfect four-part harmony right in front of my eyes. I mean, even if it's not as big a milestone in music history as I'd like to think it is, it's at least a sign of the times if i've ever seen one. And most people probably have no idea it exists. Anyway, I know I've said it before, but great job to all four of you! keep it up!

  • Wait, did I say "most people?" I meant to say "Virtually everybody." Sorry, my bad. :/

  • haha, it's true, man. How should this get more out there, then?

  • yeah, I don't know what you guys could do. A youtube feature is definitely deserved, but I don't know if I see that happening anytime soon :\

  • Geeze, just 13 minutes ago, haha. I should stop checking my email when I wake up :P

Well, a feature would be great, but I think you're right. It'll take some more time, and many more multitrackers

  • Perhaps we should bombard the "YouTube™ Symphony Orchestra" threads about how it's misleading to call that the FIRST-ever collaborative music performance on YouTube, let alone on the Internet.

And link your posts to THIS video, that predates the Orchestra by a year. :-)

Remember, you can't post whole URLs in Text Comments here, but for YouTube videos, including the video identifier (the part starting with "?v=") is enough. Add "&fmt=18" so people hear the full quality from the start.

  • well, to be fair, they DO say "first online collab orchestra"..

  • what a sense of humor. awesome. But how the hell do you sing like that. I have about of half the intensity of you. I tried barbershop. Not even close to you am i. Congratulations because your singing amazes me.

  • fineyleee MARRY ME!!!! lol

  • send pic first =D

  • you can marry 30 girls, live together with one, i take care of the other 29 :D

  • Ha!

  • @FineyLeee haha XD

  • keep them coming guys - they are great!

  • wow!! awesome Simon! found out about this through a non-barbershop friend on twitter....word gets out about good stuff!

  • awesome group! just wondering when were going to get another inter-region video! soon i hope!

  • awesomeness

  • yay! you all got together!

  • have you thought of starting a quartet together ;)

  • haha Of course, Ras

On the second Sunday each month, Simon and Nick will swim to New York and we'll meet in the Empire State Building for a short practice, and every other week, we'll do an international four way tele-call and block chords all day :P haha

really though, it would be incredible to meet up in anaheim. We'll see what happens.

  • So awesome! So great!

  • Nice!!!

It was not necesary 3 mins. of a song for to show ur talent guys!

    Congratulations!

  • Talking about a global project! :)

    Fantastic! Simply fantastic!!!

  • u guys ROCK

  • du kan ju hålla ut helt sjukt länge!

  • guys - i've only just learnt what a multitrack tag is... and i just saw you separately (which was terrific) and now, by your forces combined, you are Captain Planet

  • You 4 guys are great on your own but together your guys rock. Thanks for making this tag.. I know it was a great deal of work but it was well worth it.Keep on singing

  • The question is do they really have that good of a lock in real life. How cool it would be to see them sing on a bbs competition. The airline tickets would be insane! lol

  • hahah we're always hoping to get that chance. Maybe we should take donations.. hahah

  • very very cool

  • this is still is pretty much the best thing ever. I can only hope for an album to purchase sometime in the future...

  • If I had to cut my favorite videos down to a total of 5, all of them would contain the guys that colab'd on this song.

When these guys sing, I get f'n goosebumpss, what a delight.

  • amazing

  • Muito leqal!

  • The tuning and synchronization are both ASTOUNDINGLY good for being what this is!

  • I loved the basses slight hand gestures at the bottom of his video feed to signify the first slide that didn't include him but he needed to signify it, and the ending. Great work, wish I could have been a part of this.

  • hahah it's purely insanity, on my call.

  • Yeah... want more. Gimme!

  • omg dude i have seen all four of you separately and now to have this! you guys are really great...each of you!

  • this is godly!

  • this is a dirty dirty tag- oh man i love it

    the part where mr. bass

  • woops, pressed post by accident haha - i was going to say that the "the..UH BAAANND" part at 0:12 is fricken sweet. LOVE THIS TAG

  • hahah hells yea :P

  • no seriously, your voice is sweet for bass - where you from in Canada man?

  • hah, thanks man :P

    East Coast

  • Was this hard to do? You had four different voices in different rooms. Great job on this one.

  • lol not only different rooms, but 4 different countries, across 3 different continents, with some wacked out time zones. So that being the case, it was pretty hard to do just in terms of timing. Tooks us a few days just to send one part to one another. Fully worth it though

  • You forgot to mention that all four hemispheres (Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western), plus all but one quartersphere (SouthWestern) of the planet were represented here. :-)

  • Awesome! :)

  • Hey Guitar, sounds grrrreat!!! Lemme know!!

  • Oh yeah, by the way, nice 24 second post there, Finey!

  • man.....that was pretty good....i would love to do this also....but....i need a bass,tenor,and lead.....lol

  • I'll sing some bass for you if you ever do this sort of thing. :)

  • thats good...because im doing it :)

  • yeah if you want I'll sing tenor with you.

  • that was to Guitar herokevin

  • we got a quartet then

  • I'd be happy to do Lead! :)

  • haha....well looks like we got ourselves a quartet... how bout it?

  • Beautiful. When and what're we gonna do?

  • idk.....how about 2 simple tags...."when i leave the world behind" and "lone praire/lonesome rose"?

  • hey guitar how old are ya? i use to go to south miami middle like 4 yrs ago, and i saw ur 06-07 ensemble video

  • Hey Guitarherokevin - still up for this?

  • Man, I would love to do this stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have a mic haha. Otherwise I'd ask if you needed a tenor for another tag or somethin :)

  • so go buy a mic?

go now! You'll be in the upcoming project :P

  • Ok I'll have to do that soon then haha. I'll let you know when I get one!

  • sounds good man. save on up

  • Your tenor is amazing! How is he able to hit such high notes? Awesome.

  • Get it, Bass Two!

  • nope, don't get it lol

  • thats amazing you are all amazingly talented can you post some lessons im sure people would love to know how to do this stuff

  • :P I like it!

  • dude...nice work...great idea

  • almost 20k views! hurry it up!

  • I've watched this video a million times already, but only just realized how awesomely great it is ! ;)

  • Have you all ever thought about doing something like this again?

  • I am going to.

  • That's awesome! This is probably one of my favorite tags.

  • ha, I was just about to ask the same thing! Knowing that you guys *can* do this, it would be a shame to only have one tag like it.

  • Oh, well the next one will not be with this "quartet" though... I get millions of requests from all kinds of people to do this, so I figured I could give some other people a shot =)

  • Well, regardless of cast, it's totally worth doing. Very cool project.

  • Vehemently agreed!

  • GREAT!!!

  • this is awesome!!!

  • woa, if you post

    &fmt=18

after a video URL, you get sick-awesome quality. Seriously, better video and audio version

  • lolz...

  • that's weird... it's not working now... Well... I could have sworn it was working.. Oh well?

  • it's still working! You have to make sure that you only have the video ID in the url and nothing else before you add that last line though...

Too bad it didn't make it stereo!

  • You still have the original tracks, right, FineyLeee? Why not re-mix it as stereo, and convert it to a .FLV yourself (using Flash Professional or any of several less expensive or even free tools) so that the stereo is maintained, and re-upload? Use high quality settings so that the &fmt=18 thing will have the most impact.

  • Another really cool thing to try would be to mix a surround sound track, with each part panned 100% to a different speaker. It would sound like the quartet is standing AROUND you, singing!

You couldn't put that on YouTube, of course, but you could do audio only using Windows Media Audio 9 Professional (free encoder available from Microsoft) or Dolby .AC3 codecs (I think your Sony Vegas may have come with an encoder for that). Host it on your own website (NotLikeOtherFish?).

  • Haha that's a cool idea! And yeah, I got the original tracks for most of the tags (I lost some of the first ones to a computer crash). And yeah, I've got to try that! However, when it comes to re-uploading my tags: I'm collecting viewers, and if I do that, it would mean either spam my user with duplets or erase all the viewers I already have =P

  • If you REALLY wanna get fancy, remember that I saw you in the thread for LuckyVirus's stereo upload of the "Virtual Barbershop" (?v=IUDTlvagjJA&fmt=18) — like me, you thought that it meant OUR kind of Barbershop, not the OTHER kind!

Maybe if you get enough donations, you could invest in a binaural recording head, and do a track or two of Virtual Barbershop Tags that sound like a quartet of you is standing around you and singing, using ordinary stereo instead of needing surround sound!

  • now, go visit my homepage and get a copy of my album instead!

    sunshinetracksDOTcom

  • It's OUT!?!? YOWZA!!!

I note from your cool new Website that you sell learning tracks as well (competing against Tim Waurick!? BRAVE of you!). On it, you state that "You Are My Sunshine" is as sung by "Unknown." I don't know which Barbershop group made Vicki Uhr's arrangement famous, but the original song was made famous by former (now deceased) Governor of Louisiana, Jimmy Davis (the only Governor in history to also be a Top 40s hit singer while in office). It's now the LA State Song.

  • Yeah, well I'm looking for the quartet/chorus that did that arrangement. Originally performed by = As sung by. =)

Yes, I've started a business of my own, but I can't say I'm looking for competing with Tim. Although you will have to wait about one twentieth (1/20) of the time if you order from me instead of him ;)

  • wow, thanks for saying that!

  • I need to learn how to split screen with Avid Liquid. Premiere Pro sucks.

  • It would be a lot of work, but I think you guys should do a polecat. Maybe spice up the tag to one, but I think the final product would be unbelievable. Good job guys.

  • a really 'spiffed up' polecat... could be nice. some slow timing.. some fast, jazzy timing. Hmm.. could be interesting.

  • not only is the singing great, but the collaboration is even more astounding.

  • Excelent. Wonderful job

    -Radioplaya

  • I'm floored, flat out impressed. I've stayed up all night listening and picking my jaw up off of the floor. Count me as a *huge* fan. I hope y'all don't have anything against singing tags with a girl 'cause I'll be hunting you down in Nashville and hoping for at least 1 quick one, lol.

  • Is there any way you can send me this music? I would love to teach this to my group of guys at my school. Please get back to me if you get this.

  • this tag rocks!!!!!hope to hear more from this quartet.hope i can make nashvile,i would love to sing a song or tag with you.
