Really don't think you do yourself any favours with the beginning of the video, or the name of the product/idea... I nearly thought you were a total asshole!! BUT.... glad I stuck with it!
It's *brilliant* - certainly for improvisation, anyway. Love the relative nature of the concept, which enables quite different ways of thinking.
What's your experience with people who *don't* play keyboard already and just want to pick out a tune? I notice that even your own attempts at tunes are uneven!
re picking out tunes, yes you are right: i stumble a bit playing the melodies in the video. well a bit more practice would have fixed that, i'm sure.
as w anything else, familiarity helps. made that video a long time ago, and by now i'm sure it's easier for me to pick out tunes. i would even say that not knowing a standard keyboard means not having to unlearn anything
email me at leon.gruenbaum at gmail.com if you have more questions or to order the software
I have recently discovered the Samchillian. Wanted to build one on the Kinesis keyboard. The pc standalone freeware is unavailable. Is this the best available relative keyboard option, at the moment, that replaces the Samchillian? I have tried emailing the inventor with no reply. Any Ideas?
Wow, awesome! Still don't quite understand how you break out of monophonicity, but obviously it's in there. I'm definitely going to follow up - especially interested to see how difficult it is for conventional keyboardists to learn - clearly the inventor himself has mastered it!
I see so many BS patents I'm glad you got one for an honest, creative innovation!
(BTW, got here via Google based on a mention in iTunes review of Other True Self.)
ok im doing a report plz message me ASAP when this was invented im going crazy no site says it wat the heck that is very important! sry if it said it but i was in a hurry
i can see it now, one day im going to walk into my local music store and see the hot new craze, the SAMCHILLIAN TIP TIP TIP CHEEEPEEEEE. im being serious, if it was a resonable price id get that shit....providing it has the standerd midi plug!
For someone who is a "non-musician" but likes to make music, this Samchillian really makes a lot of intuitive sense and, although not great for harmonies per se, is a freaking godsend for making melodies. One difficulty with traditional piano/keyboard is the time it takes to learn and perfect scales and keys. This instantly fixes thzat problem while still allowing easy creative freedom.
Amazing. Any chance you will ever build it for other people or publish schematics/instructions?
wow that's amazing. I love how mathematically structured it is, very intriguing. Someone told me to check out the samchillian after they saw my video of me using my computer keyboard as a MIDI keyboard. My use of the computer keyboard is a version of the standard piano keyboard though, completely different than your relative interval type thing.. its very cool
hey - checked out your video. glad to see someone else is insane enough to play music on a computer keyboard! you seem to have put some time into it to learn fingering, etc. would hate to confuse you, but see my comment to the last guy if you're interested in receiving my freeware. i have a feeling you would master it pretty quickly!
i like to say that the hard things are easy and the easy things are hard. it's a creative tool, a different concept for playing a melodic line - it's not a way to make your life necessary any easier overall. that said, you can immediately do things on this keyboard you can't do on the piano

The keyboard looks like you modded a Maltron ergonomic keyboard.
Always wanted to get my hands on one of those.

actually this is a genius innovation, a major event in the history of music.

@GrandConcertina i doubt that. it's so easy for an idea (no matter how good it is) to fall into oblivion.

You are a genius. Your Samchillian tip tip tip cheepee is 300 times better than the stupid and luxurious white & blach samchillian... You rock :)

looks sweet, but seems like it would take a while to get used to. Is it difficult to learn if I can play the piano?
