Morton Thiokol paid around $5 mill to the families of the victims, then Thiokol was eventually awarded another billion dollars contract for more rocket boosters....In 2003 another space shuttle blew up......Amazing how bureaucracy works, or didn't work...
New reports say that there is no conclusive evidence that the cabin depressurized after the explosion. One NASA astronaut/doctor believes that at least a few of the crew survived the entire fall to earth and died on impact with the water...
And people wonder why I don't want the government to run everything and "take care" of me...NASA is a great example they did a great job taking care of that crew.
The shuttle was not the problem - it was the management. I hope those managers who were more concerned about the launching dates got the fucking death penalty.
There was tremendous mismanagement by high-level NASA managers. One went so far, when concerns were raised about the cold temperatures and their effects on the SRB's, as to say "Fly out that damned manifest." There was a book titled "Challenger: A Major Malfunction" which outlined much of the poor management procedures. A simpler explanation might be: GO FEVER. NASA became arrogant with the success of the previous 24 missions, and began stretching safety rules.
I was in high school when it happened but I was not watching it. I believe some kid came into the lunchroom and yelled it exploded but we had no way to see it. I think only one or two classes were watching it for some reason. What I remember most is walking home from school that day and almost no cars were on the road.No people outside of kids walking home.Like on 911 it was like a ghost town because everyone was watching it.That was the eerie part..Like life stopped for a little while.
I wonder if space aliens passing by earth have an "upper management" team telling them how and when to fly the ship. Maybe that's why they crashed in Roswell.
@shivakrishnarama i dont even belive in aliens all crap if there real y havent we seen em dont tell me the gov cover up crap as if ppl just wanna belive there something out there even if the gov covered it up it would get out yet nuffin has ever come 2 any of us unless i see with my eyes i dont belive
The thought still puzzles me why people want to invest in space. Firstly its not like aliens are harming us, Secondly the only benifit would be the thrill of it.....and maybe extra space to live in which Im sure we can live without. I love technology and yet this part of humanity seems stupid. (Oh what i would do with just a million from those billions they spend)
@MrJackanthony Replying only to the "billions they spend" part: NASA's budget in 2010 was $18.7 billion. Compare that to Medicaid, $290 billion; Medicare, $453 billion; Department of Defense, $663.7 billion; Social Security, $677.95 billion. The total budget for 2010 was $3.55 trillion; NASA's share of that is a drop in the bucket. And the technologies derived from the space age are in use every day; humans on Earth have benefited from a lot of research done in the name of space exploration.
Even though this event happened 20 years ago ... The decision that was made at Morton Thiokol the night before .... I hope the upper management esp the team leader ... anguishes every night he goes to bed for he and his comrades were directly responsbile for the deaths of these great people
This happened when i was 9 and i still remember it. It is sad that this has less than 2000 views. Good life lessons to be learned here. Those who don't learn from history....
@Rbuck2110 yes, good life lessons too learn is that NEVER leave advanced technology in the hands of people who don't understand it and are ignorant of it.

@piratesmvp,
I've felt that ever since the day of the explosion. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

2:22 - "We expected it to blow up on the pad".... Maybe if it did the astronauts (atleast 2 or 3 hopefully) may have survived??
DrVegasIII 11 months ago
@DrVegasIII What I don't get is why they let it go up in the first place if they thought it was going to explode on the launch pad...

Well the comments have nearly doubled to 1476 now. Also, Julchen68 has uploaded the same documentary whose parts have 4000+ views.
But yes I see your point about Miley Cyrus :S

it's a shame that something extraordinary like this only has 767 views and stupid videos from miley cyrus get millions each.

that is indicative of human stupidity. For every 1 person who has a bit of independant thought and intelligence, there are 20 who are thick.
