  • this organ has been sold to a museam in belgium who are going to have it installed in a big barn with two theatre organs ive just heard. It is also going to have thick wooden boards with re curtains installed infront of the pipework to dampen the sound since it will now be playing in a barn. Sad to see the organ leave England but I am sure the new owners will display it very nicely in the grounds of their museam. I do not know wheather the barn is open to the public but it should be I guess.

  • @poppinsexpert yes it has been sold. correct

  • @poppinsexpert I didnt know it was sold. Are you sure its true?

  • Yep I agree with you the Southsea Gavi is a total diisaster. I think it is a case of he saw the owner coming and he seems not to be interested in conservation or restoration just making money. The Sanphillipo collection has a number of so called ruined updated or so called improved organs!!!!! Glad that there is a number of organ builders like Kevin Meayers that have some scruples and have conservation at the centre of their work.

  • @BruderStarkton Well i really meant that in saying i like the Southsea Gavi' and its sound is quite good! Sorry if you picked me up wrong on it! Well Johnny seems very controversial for some reason because i have often had arguements with friends over jobs he has done and i like his work but a lot just hate it! Yes Kevin is a great man! I met him at Dorset this year and he was a man with such an in dept knowledge it was something else believe me!

  • Love the ccomment above "absolute mint condition"!!!!! Well it would be as it a new organ by Verbeeck. It would be interesting to find out if any bits are left of the ori9ginal organ. A LP exisits of the organ in its old format and well, it sounds very different and was built as a dance organ. Not with a mock Gavioli front. Yep it sounds OK but WHY not use the verbeeck name! It is nothing to be ashamed of I heard it this summer and well those bells made me think of one thing Quasimodo

  • @BruderStarkton hahahaha thank you for your comment! Yes Johnny did a hell of amount of work on this organ! I didnt know an LP existed of this organ from its old format!! I have the two new CDs alright of what Alan released himself but thats it really! Johnny himself is a very controversial Organ builder an restorer. His most controversial one was Graham Atkinsons Southsea Gavi' as we know it. It was a 98 Key Gavioli but converted to 110 Key during restoration! Its sound is something to hear!!

  • my grandad's organ
