if you get a few extra items, you could always sell them off on ebay and give the money to your charity. and do the items have to be makeup or beauty related? you could have certain things such as autographs from youtube makeup gurus or maybe have a prize be a skype chat with a guru of their choice (one that you know). If anything i think a "get a makeover from brooke " would be a GREAT idea. you could organize that through ebay or something like that. it would be sorta the "grand prize"

i don't know how you are going to get round the "dollars= raffle tickets" thing legally. because it's a lottery it's illegal to do without a licence. please let us know how/ if you get round this as i would like to know as i plan to do something similar for a children's charity.
I don't know if this is even helpful for you, but I am a professional fundraiser, and just so you know, most of our clients are switching to monthly giving plans. It is far easier for charities to budget when they have guaranteed monthly money coming in.

I love that you're using your platform to do something good, that you're obviously passionate about the cause, and you're not just using Youtube out of vanity or greed. Yay! I love different approaches for charity, especially when it comes to animals. I help out at a cat shelter in my area and tomorrow we're having a fundraiser called "Pints for Pussycats" at a local bar lol. It's great to see anyone raise money for animals. :)
I think you should ask xsparkage, petrilude (sorry if i spelled that wrong) yourself and any other make-up youtubers to make face charts to put with the prizes.. that would ROCK!
brooke, i know you said you didn't want to be animal specific/breed specific so i'm not sure if this goes against that or not...but would a shelter dedicated to senior animals be something you'd support? or would you want to support a shelter that's more broad than that?

As a huge animal lover, I must say that what you're doing is amazing, and I wish I could contribute more than just this suggestion of a charity. The charity I'd like to recommend is one that I hold dear to my heart, though it IS here in California. This organization doesn't discriminate against animals and truly cares about all creatures, great and small. The organization I am talking about is The Gentle Barn.. 1/2
Also, a suggestion - and I'm not sure if this applies to people in other countries outside of the US and UK, but in Australia, it is REALLY freakin' hard to find the Naked Palette. Perhaps that'd be worth popping in the prize pack? Whilst I have no awesome makeup products to offer. I'd like to donate when its all up and running!

Great idea! I might have some extra MAC Wonder Woman polishes and I know I have an extra of the MAC mint (not Peppermint Patti) polish that came out recently. I could donate those. I might some MAC eyeshadows that have never been used and in the box but I'll have to check.

i think it is great that you are doing this! cape ann animal aid is a nonprofit no-kill shelter and they are currently in a small building but are in the process of building a new shelter. They still need about $150,000 in donations in order to complete the project. we've adopted two dogs from the shelter and the entire staff is wonderful.
I know that this is a far distance from you, but would you please consider donating to The Seeing Eye in Morristown, New Jersey? I have raised six puppies for this organization, 4 of which have gone off to guide blind people. Cat House on the Kings! I've seen her featured only once on the Must Loves Cats show for Animal Planet but she seems totally awesome and her shelter is No kill No Cage. She takes both cats and dogs and if you watch the video on the website it seems like a totally awesome place :)
How wonderful!! I'm so glad you want to donate to a local animal charity. Smaller shelters have more trouble raising money then larger non-profits. This is fantastic!
I love that you're giving to animals! It's too bad you preffer shelters in your area cause i'm from Brazil and i volunteer in 2 animal protection organizations and the situation here is pretty bad concerning animal abuse and we honestly need all help possible. You might know how poor a country we are and not many people care about animal welfare so it's difficult to fight for it here.

In houston there is a non profit animal program for low income families to get their pets vaccinated and or spayed/neutered. It is called SNAP (spay neuter assistance program) they r awesome

Brooke there is a charity that is helping the animals that were lost, displaced & orphaned in the storms/tornados in Alabama & Georiga. They are helping domestic dogs, cats, etc with finding their owners or new homes after this tradgedy. They desperately need help with food, medical care, temporary homes, & pretty much anything u can think of. It is a reputable group on facebook look up...Displaced Animals Eastern TN from 4/27 storms.
Really good informative video on charities in general. I think it's great to donate to local charities, and of course I will enter the giveaway, but some people might prefer a national or even global charity as a lot of your viewers are not from the US. Some big charities are good, they are just few and far between. WWF is good and pretty non-political. On the other hand, one animal shelter is gonna be soooo happy! You can make more of an impact to a charity if it is small.
I have always been enjoying your videos but this one proves that you have a big heart. The animals will thank you too. I'd suggest Caboodle Ranch. They are in Florida, I think. Go on their website (and blog) to read all the stories, you will smile and cry at the same time

Also, if you want to make sure that the money actually goes for the animals, you can use the money to buy cat and dog food, toys for the animals, etc. If you go to your local Humance Society website, they should have a wish list of items they need to help the animals, like food, toys, blankets, even bleach and soap to help keep the cages clean :)
A local humane society in your area would be a really cool place to donate to, or another local animal rescue place that's close to you! :) I would really recommend a local humane society though, they can always use money!

darn you Brooke!!! I am such an animal lover, and i live in Europe and i actually don't have that much money, we usually have to make a dollar out of 50 pence. But i'm already thinking if there isn't a way i can donate when it comes to it! The prizes aren't even that important to me cause with my luck i'll never get anything anyways. I'll start putting aside a bit off the money i get for walking the neighbours dog.

I know this isn't in the Boston area, but there are two organizations that have been in Joplin, MO helping to rescue and relocate pets after the devastating tornado on May 22 (I live in Missouri so this is near and dear to me). Wayside Waifs is a no-kill shelter out of the Kansas City, MO area and then of course the Joplin Humane Society. Wayside Waifs is a fabulous organization and Joplin needs all the help it can get right now :)
There's a no-kill animal shelter in Salem, MA called Northeast Animal Shelter. I volunteer there on Friday and Sunday and could help you figure out how to donate to them or whatever if you're interested. A lot of no-kill shelters are starting to have to shut down and Northeast Animal Shelter is one of the last around. They just were on the news for rescuing over 50 dogs and cats from Georgia after the Tornadoes. They also take in dogs from Puerto Rico, Tennessee, and other areas.

There is an amazing animal rescue & adoption 'agency' (for lack of a better word.) really near my house. They are trying to pass state inspections, and really need more funds to save even more animals. I fostor puppies for them, as well as volunteer. Please check out their website..... It would mean so much to me if you would check them out, even if you don't consider them for the charity.

The Wildlife Waystation would be a great place to donate. They help rehabilitate and relocate wild animals that have either been hurt or animals that people have bought as "pets" that are not suppose to be pets like tigers for example.

What about Animal Rescue Force? (Or they often go by ARF) They're located in East Brunswick, NJ. It's a pretty small organization considering almost no one in NJ has heard of em. I've adopted a dog from there & they were really good about caring for him. Neutered, shots up to date, well cared for, etc. My mom and I used to volunteer for them too. Also, I'm 99% positive that they're a no kill shelter.
oh you should do like gift baskets filled with lush stuff, and then maybe like a set of nail polish, so ppl put in a raffle for what they want, whether it be the lush stuff, a rare makeup item, etc

Unfortunately they're not near you, but Belleglen Sanctuary is a wonderful place in Chico, California that rescues cats in all situations - abandonment, abuse, etc. For the cats that they can't find homes for or are unadoptable, they provide a permanent home for the remainder of that cat's life. They're in financial need right now and I know they would appreciate any donations made to help them stay open.
You might already be doing this, but for a prize idea I think it would be worth while to put together a "Brooke's Favorites" gift basket with one or two favorite items from each of the shops that you buy from/do reviews for. For example: Candles by Victoria, Skin-a-licious, Glamour Doll Eyes Trophy Wife eye shadow, Ginger Kitty Designs, Fortune Cookie Soaps, etc. I think if you ask those companys if they would like to donate to your raffle that they would be happy to help out.

With makeup (and a certain amount of nail polish) you can pack tonssss in a box and it won't be too heavy, but to add in candles and soap, especially since I want to offer this international wouldn't be feasible :(

Brooke I really think you should look into the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. It is in New Mexico, and I have been twice. They take in displaced, unwanted, and un-releasable captive-bred wolves, wolf-dogs, as well as dogs.
you are so right about those "big charities" not using all the money for the cause. the pink ribbon/breast cancer charity/organization uses most of it's raised money on promotions, and merchandise...it's sad all of the money doesn't go straight to research :( i was shocked when i learned this from a person involved with that charity

I think this is a wonderful idea. I have been affiliated with Raptor Rehab Centers. I know they have them in KY and IN, I'm not sure about Boston area but it should be easy to find out. They have little to NO publicity and need money desperately. They rehabilitate Eagles, Hawks, Owls, etc. that have been injured by cars, hunting accidents, etc. Usually they are very small groups that don't get much funding and they are very rewarding to work with. It is so cool that you are donating to an animal charity. I think you should donate to a rescue that doesn't have an actual shelter and relies on fosters. Like a 501 c 3 rescue. I know personally how much they need the money because they take in pretty much any animal and get them tons of vet care and grooming. My family fosters dogs and they always need more help wether it be money or fostering.
Any no kill shelter would be a perfect place to donate!..it breaks my heart to know there are alot of great animals stuck in shelters/ especially the older animals that are killed everyday because there was no one around to take them at that time. My family rescued my dog from a shelter when i was in the 4th grade and im 20 now and i still have her today. shelter animals really are some of the best pets and more people need to realize they dont need a purebred dog to have an amazing pet!
For some reason this video made me tear up, I don't see gurus using their fame for charity very often at all and your generosity is so beautiful.
Second of all, this touched me because I live less than a half hour from Sterling Animal Shelter and I've rescued many animals from there over the years. It is a great facility and it means a lot to me that you are doing something so kindhearted to a place so close to home for me and near to my heart.

As for items you could gather, I would say many people would want Stereo Rose by MAC and the new blush My Paradise from Surf Baby if you can. Holo nail polishes? They're crazy hard to find. omg i know a animal charity!!!! its called best friends.... they have a show called dog town... watch an episode, you can find them on youtube... its so sad and such a great place. its in between utah and colorado and its such a great place ive been there twice to volunteer and it will be, i promise, all 100% to the animals. they are also the ones who handled the micheal vicks pitbulls who where abused by him... such a sad story but omg pllleaasee donate to them!!!!!

Great idea! All my 3 pets are rescues, and both me and my hubby volunteer weekly at Seattle Humane Society. They are so amazing - they take over animals from busier shelters or those where animals run out of time (Southern California... :() whenever they have extra space.

I know Lhasa Happy Homes in Los Angeles is a confirmed dog rescue with a bona fide tax id no. They partner with phenomenal vets who donate alot of their time/talent and money to help this small dog rescue.
I think that animal causes are some of the best causes since they have no say over the situations or conditions that they are put in & it is heart crushing how cruel & neglectful some people can be. I would check your local humane society or even animal control- the ppl that come in & remove animals from negligent or abusive owners. I think a good cosmetic would be Chanel polishes- like nouvelle vague #527, morining rose, oe blanc ceramic. I would love to help in anyway!!!

If you don't find another place It would really be great if you donated it to the Cleveland, OH APL. I volunteer there personally. I know the works and they are really great. The kittens are really in need now too. They are a non kill facility they won't just put animals to sleep to get more room.

i think it is great that you are doing this! cape ann animal aid is a nonprofit no-kill shelter and they are currently in a small building but are in the process of building a new shelter. They still need about $150,000 in donations in order to complete the project. we've adopted two dogs from the shelter and the entire staff is wonderful.

Cat House on the Kings! I've seen her featured only once on the Must Loves Cats show for Animal Planet but she seems totally awesome and her shelter is No kill No Cage. She takes both cats and dogs and if you watch the video on the website it seems like a totally awesome place :)

I love that you're giving to animals! It's too bad you preffer shelters in your area cause i'm from Brazil and i volunteer in 2 animal protection organizations and the situation here is pretty bad concerning animal abuse and we honestly need all help possible. You might know how poor a country we are and not many people care about animal welfare so it's difficult to fight for it here.
But hey, you're doing a great thing donating to animals so congratulations on this project!

In houston there is a non profit animal program for low income families to get their pets vaccinated and or spayed/neutered. It is called SNAP (spay neuter assistance program) they r awesome

Brooke there is a charity that is helping the animals that were lost, displaced & orphaned in the storms/tornados in Alabama & Georiga. They are helping domestic dogs, cats, etc with finding their owners or new homes after this tradgedy. They desperately need help with food, medical care, temporary homes, & pretty much anything u can think of. It is a reputable group on facebook look up...Displaced Animals Eastern TN from 4/27 storms.

Really good informative video on charities in general. I think it's great to donate to local charities, and of course I will enter the giveaway, but some people might prefer a national or even global charity as a lot of your viewers are not from the US. Some big charities are good, they are just few and far between. WWF is good and pretty non-political. On the other hand, one animal shelter is gonna be soooo happy! You can make more of an impact to a charity if it is small.

Also, if you want to make sure that the money actually goes for the animals, you can use the money to buy cat and dog food, toys for the animals, etc. If you go to your local Humance Society website, they should have a wish list of items they need to help the animals, like food, toys, blankets, even bleach and soap to help keep the cages clean :)

I know this isn't in the Boston area, but there are two organizations that have been in Joplin, MO helping to rescue and relocate pets after the devastating tornado on May 22 (I live in Missouri so this is near and dear to me). Wayside Waifs is a no-kill shelter out of the Kansas City, MO area and then of course the Joplin Humane Society. Wayside Waifs is a fabulous organization and Joplin needs all the help it can get right now :)

There's a no-kill animal shelter in Salem, MA called Northeast Animal Shelter. I volunteer there on Friday and Sunday and could help you figure out how to donate to them or whatever if you're interested. A lot of no-kill shelters are starting to have to shut down and Northeast Animal Shelter is one of the last around. They just were on the news for rescuing over 50 dogs and cats from Georgia after the Tornadoes. They also take in dogs from Puerto Rico, Tennessee, and other areas.

There is an amazing animal rescue & adoption 'agency' (for lack of a better word.) really near my house. They are trying to pass state inspections, and really need more funds to save even more animals. I fostor puppies for them, as well as volunteer. Please check out their website..... (Google Saving Grace Animals for Adoption).
It would mean so much to me if you would check them out, even if you don't consider them for the charity.

The Wildlife Waystation would be a great place to donate. They help rehabilitate and relocate wild animals that have either been hurt or animals that people have bought as "pets" that are not suppose to be pets like tigers for example.

What about Animal Rescue Force? (Or they often go by ARF) They're located in East Brunswick, NJ. It's a pretty small organization considering almost no one in NJ has heard of em. I've adopted a dog from there & they were really good about caring for him. Neutered, shots up to date, well cared for, etc. My mom and I used to volunteer for them too. Also, I'm 99% positive that they're a no kill shelter.

Unfortunately they're not near you, but Belleglen Sanctuary is a wonderful place in Chico, California that rescues cats in all situations - abandonment, abuse, etc. For the cats that they can't find homes for or are unadoptable, they provide a permanent home for the remainder of that cat's life. They're in financial need right now and I know they would appreciate any donations made to help them stay open.

You might already be doing this, but for a prize idea I think it would be worth while to put together a "Brooke's Favorites" gift basket with one or two favorite items from each of the shops that you buy from/do reviews for. For example: Candles by Victoria, Skin-a-licious, Glamour Doll Eyes Trophy Wife eye shadow, Ginger Kitty Designs, Fortune Cookie Soaps, etc. I think if you ask those companys if they would like to donate to your raffle that they would be happy to help out.

@carliestevens I did consider those things, the only problem is that both candles and soap are SO heavy for shipping purposes. With makeup (and a certain amount of nail polish) you can pack tonssss in a box and it won't be too heavy, but to add in candles and soap, especially since I want to offer this international wouldn't be feasible :(

Brooke I really think you should look into the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. It is in New Mexico, and I have been twice. They take in displaced, unwanted, and un-releasable captive-bred wolves, wolf-dogs, as well as dogs.

you are so right about those "big charities" not using all the money for the cause. the pink ribbon/breast cancer charity/organization uses most of it's raised money on promotions, and merchandise...it's sad all of the money doesn't go straight to research :( i was shocked when i learned this from a person involved with that charity

I think this is a wonderful idea. I have been affiliated with Raptor Rehab Centers. I know they have them in KY and IN, I'm not sure about Boston area but it should be easy to find out. They have little to NO publicity and need money desperately. They rehabilitate Eagles, Hawks, Owls, etc. that have been injured by cars, hunting accidents, etc. Usually they are very small groups that don't get much funding and they are very rewarding to work with. It is so cool that you are donating to an animal charity. I think you should donate to a rescue that doesn't have an actual shelter and relies on fosters. Like a 501 c 3 rescue. I know personally how much they need the money because they take in pretty much any animal and get them tons of vet care and grooming. My family fosters dogs and they always need more help wether it be money or fostering.

Any no kill shelter would be a perfect place to donate!..it breaks my heart to know there are alot of great animals stuck in shelters/ especially the older animals that are killed everyday because there was no one around to take them at that time. My family rescued my dog from a shelter when i was in the 4th grade and im 20 now and i still have her today. shelter animals really are some of the best pets and more people need to realize they dont need a purebred dog to have an amazing pet!

For some reason this video made me tear up, I don't see gurus using their fame for charity very often at all and your generosity is so beautiful.
Second of all, this touched me because I live less than a half hour from Sterling Animal Shelter and I've rescued many animals from there over the years. It is a great facility and it means a lot to me that you are doing something so kindhearted to a place so close to home for me and near to my heart.

As for items you could gather, I would say many people would want Stereo Rose by MAC and the new blush My Paradise from Surf Baby if you can. Holo nail polishes? They're crazy hard to find. omg i know a animal charity!!!! its called best friends.... they have a show called dog town... watch an episode, you can find them on youtube... its so sad and such a great place. its in between utah and colorado and its such a great place ive been there twice to volunteer and it will be, i promise, all 100% to the animals. they are also the ones who handled the micheal vicks pitbulls who where abused by him... such a sad story but omg pllleaasee donate to them!!!!!

Great idea! All my 3 pets are rescues, and both me and my hubby volunteer weekly at Seattle Humane Society. They are so amazing - they take over animals from busier shelters or those where animals run out of time (Southern California... :() whenever they have extra space.
It would be great if you could give away cosmetics NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS...

I know Lhasa Happy Homes in Los Angeles is a confirmed dog rescue with a bona fide tax id no. They partner with phenomenal vets who donate alot of their time/talent and money to help this small dog rescue.

I think that animal causes are some of the best causes since they have no say over the situations or conditions that they are put in & it is heart crushing how cruel & neglectful some people can be. I would check your local humane society or even animal control- the ppl that come in & remove animals from negligent or abusive owners. I think a good cosmetic would be Chanel polishes- like nouvelle vague #527, morining rose, oe blanc ceramic. I would love to help in anyway!!!

An idea for part of the prizes....I was thinking (I know these aren't hard to find but the crackles are new & some ppl have never bought from CBV)two of the new China Glaze crackles since anyone who has followed you for any length of time knows that China Glaze is your favorite brand also one the new Candles by Victoria Sweet Treats Candles because again anyone who has watched you knows CBV is a "slight" addiction of yours. I will definitely be part of this giveaway this is awesome of you.

@nesbittda2 Hey you! I did consider those things, the only problem is that both candles and soap are SO heavy for shipping purposes. With makeup (and a certain amount of nail polish) you can pack tonssss in a box and it won't be too heavy, but to add in candles and soap, especially since I want to offer this international wouldn't be feasible :(

They will hold ALL the animals until the day they are adopted! I hope everything goes great! I will definitely be participating! I could even go in and record and interview for you if you would like since it's right by me!!!

If you don't find another place It would really be great if you donated it to the Cleveland, OH APL. I volunteer there personally. I know the works and they are really great. The kittens are really in need now too. They are a non kill facility they won't just put animals to sleep to get more room.
