She was really treated like crap by the women for one example of the daughters of the american rev. they tried to barred her from singing in washington but Elinor Roosevelt stepped in and fixed it up, a great lady also so she sang anyhow. Look it up probably on Wikpedia under Marion Anderson. Perhaps had she been white she would have been at the met sooner. Her debut was not until 1955 in Ballo. she went through a lot like sports people who where black and some Jews like Hank Greenberg.

Parmi les interprètes qui ont fait une reprise de cette chanson -et il y a beaucoup (la version irrisistible de Victoria De Los Angeles, par exemple), Marian Anderson est vraiment magnifique. C'est la première fois que j'ai entendu Anderson chantant cette chanson romantique. Sa voix sonore, avec un français impeccable, est presque amortie, attristée, alors qu'elle raconte l'histoire d'un amour perdu. Elle m'a fait pleurer encore. Merci Onegin!

Another great aria and video of Marian Anderson. I can hear and feel the energy of MA's spirit in this mélodie. This is an extremely difficult piece to perform but MA makes it sound fresh and new.
