This is about the absolute best way you could do an MMO RTS. if you tried doing something silly like having dynamic bases over a real world you would fail miserably.

I've always been a fan of oldschool C&C/Warcraft style RTS though where you have to gather resources, build a base and then build units.

Not sure how I feel about being able to drop in units from spawn points without having to deal with logistics.

The mere fact that there's a button for "make one of each unit" and the fact that you can only have one of each unit type means this isn't really an RTS. I'd say it's almost purely a tactics game.

shattered galaxy is a really old and totally forgotten game but it was an RTS game with a persistent world, leveling rpg elements, customized units, and best of all 30on30 battles (back in beta a decade ago i think they even had 40on40 or higher)
