How horrible to judge this lady so. Cant u accept ppl in aging? Everyones voice is a work in progress. I didnt hear her go flat did u? I saw her enjoying herself and it wasnt recorded very well so cut her some slack.
Watching Jacqui sing there i can see she is totally transported back to that time in her mind, but sadly the body ages and people lack the verve they once had,we all have that trouble. The voice is still there though and still enjoyable, still unique, peace.
Jacqui McShee;s voice is still good, although it seems to have lost the essence of what it was in her 1960's youth.
It all makes me feel nostalgic and regretful. We were (or thought we were) a singular, special generation. No one was ever young like we were, or would ever be again. Yet what are we now....? Pensioners. We who would not trust anyone over 30. Tempus fugit, friends.
@Redveg993 We now realise that we weren't special Red , we thought we knew everything and we knew nothing ..we would never trust anyone over 30 , now I wouldn't trust anyone under 30 ..Age is a great leveller is it not? ..
Just been to see Jacquie and the band at the Hall for Cornwall. I agree with the earlier comment about needing a bit more 'twang' in the sound. This is not the Renbourn group, but Jacquie still has a great voice. Well worth seeing but would be better in a more intimate venue.
Despite the group not being as crisp musically as the original, it's good to see Jacqui still have the go..What I wouldn't have given to see her live, back in the day!....
The first time that I even heard of pentangle was at the IoW festival in 1969. They wowed me with a great performance that put Bob Dylan in the shade.
I'm sure that i've written this before (YouTube is hiding my messages) I think Toni Arthur would have been the one. Then of course, there's Sandy Denny. Beg to differ about the expression. Jacqui sings like a choirgirl.
I can't assess the range and the power because I saw Toni Arthur in the confines of Blackpool Folk Club wereas Jacqui was always worshipped at a distance and through a powerful PA. Toni did an amazing version of a tale of a mother killing her babes, though, full off guts and feeling.
My dear ClaireRogers, you are also entitled to your opinion but please keep to the point and don't throw in any childish comments about my 'amateurishness.' Looking at your site makes me think of a 14yo with far too much opinion for her years. I saw them in their prime - you didn't.
u are the child here....u may try to look like an adult, but ur just like all of those people who would come watch a video of some widely acknowledged and unanimously accepted legend, and try to put ur opinion in a way which is sure to make u look stupid and offend others--which u wud be aware of if you have some sense. But u do it still...y? its like i go to a Michael jackson vid and say he cant dance..i wudnt expect any nice comments from the people there. Anyways grow up dear mr Jordan:)
Ms. Rogers: Please think of original insults rather than throwing mine back at me and don't forget: you started the mud slinging.
Oh, and if you check all my comments you will see that they are not haphazard mud-slinging but thoughtful criticisms. I suppose this is what threw you because it's so rare on YT. Peace and Love.xxx
Na! Not even close! Jacqui should have left this alone! THIS IS NOT PENTANGLE, AND IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE WITHOUT JANSCH & RENBOURNE ON GUITARS, AS A MINIMUM. She can't call this Pentangle, and would be better to sing under the name of Jacqui Mc Shee.
Thanks for posting this. I miss the guitar I'm afraid, though I have to say that the drumming is just right. She does seem a little uneasy singing standing up. A bit of the "what do I do with my hands? " problem, but her voice is superb - Hope they tour the UK again soon.

it's weird watching this after seeing the 1970's version. it's different and yet the same.

Redveg...German magazine Stern commented the new Pentangle with "a few more pounds, a few more wrinkles - and still unbeatable."
Well - that´s like us, innit?

Wow-Jacquie can still entertain

Pentangle was always Jansch & Renbourn's band. JM was merely the singer.

"Merely the singer"......
Pentangle were always the sum of the parts.

I beg to differ. I always thought that they could have used a singer with more expression in her voice.
DavidMJordan 3 years ago
Who would you have Preferred?
Jacqui is a pretty hard act to follow my friend: Time, tone, phrasing.....oh and plenty of expression too.

Toni Arthur turned me onto hippy chicks before I was ten years old, god bless her. Could'nt hold a candle to Jacqui vocal wise though.
Was never fussed on Denny, Ann Briggs had already got to me.

a matter of opinion, I think Jacqui is awesome...and worked like a charm in the band.
u are entitled to an opinion, but commenting on a widely respected public figure as 'merely a singer' is amateurish, very.

This was all jobs for the boys: Thats John Martyns band with a few additions. Great players but not the right vibe for Pentangle.

I am not digging her hand movements very much.. But it's nice to see her still performing.. Bring back the John Renbourn group!!

Yay for Jaqui ! The band is too soft-jazzy for me, they need the sting and twang of the original sound.
Thanks for the clip!
