  • Poor guy. =/ imgur*c0m/HK3ER check that out.

  • Soulful. This is REAL Rhythm and Blues

  • Record Labels pay Lester his deserved royalties. Make what's wrong right. Rock on Lester!

  • i wish i lived during these times!

  • Better than orig.

  • rogerrubin, I agree. Was intoduced to the album in circa 67/68. Great album

  • Can't believe it was 45 years ago that I first listened to the Chambers Brothers in a club in Greenwich village called the Downtown.Yes, it was down- in a basement!! I was a college student uptown and can't remember how I wound up there, but I went back every weekend for months to hear them and dance . They didn't even have a stage- there was sweat running off them and all the kids jammed in that place. Best days in the Village- 1965-1968.

  • the brothers do not disappoint, many great versions of course but personally this is my favorite

  • People: do you understand that this is one of the greatest renditions of one of the greatest songs in the history of music.

  • @rogerrrubin Its probably the best one besides the original. This is my particular favorite "version". I had the record growin up. I almost wore it out. Most people dont realize the importance or significance or the beauty of a song. The Chambers Brothers were /are very precious indeed. Some people,,,most people,,,,,just dont get past the glitz and sales. And I DONT wanna see BONO (U2) when Im listening to this. Hehe! Its all about sales to most people these 'daze'. Peace to you ♥"Jenny"

  • so absolutely fine

  • These guys were amazing. Miss music like this. Such a great version of this song

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG. COULD LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY.

  • OK. Mayfield Carbon Leaded the song. Better?

  • Arguably the best verson of People Get Ready. The voices of The Brothers

blend soooo well. But I have to give props to my man Curtis Mayfield for

inking the song in the first place.

  • @dilseygirl inking the song? Maybe he used a pencil to write this song. Right ? So, if he did use a pencil to write the song, then he couldn't INK the song. Because if it was a pen, with INK in it , then he would have INKED the song, but maybe it was a LEAD filled pencil , which would cause him to write a song, with a pencil that has that Carbon Lead in it, So he could have "Carbon Leaded" the song. He probably made mistakes, so he had to erase some of the words.

  • From a brother to a sister. See the clip from "Shinmdig"? Brings back so many memories. I like this version in addition to the original. krxn11

  • One of the best sung versions ever...

  • Experienced ,These Wonderful SINGERS / Musicians, "Live" in Fall of 69' In N.Y.-and It was utterly Amazing. They brought the Gospel Roots w/ Them and were the First ,To really cover this Tune and Give it some Real Power again. Bands, then really had it Live , and Delivered shows you just Do Not Have Now , as Much..

  • Beautiful!

  • That is harmony!

  • Thanks to you guiallaimz for posting this fantastic vid of one of the best live performances of all time. So sorry the owners of this IP don't permit YouTubers license for the rendition they sang on their Album People Get Ready- 1968 - and

The Chambers Brothers classic rendition of this Curtis Mayfield.Maybe sales on ITunes and amazon have spiked--so we also gotta buy it. I got mine.

  • There was an album, I think called Greatest Folksingers of the Sixties, which had the Chambers Brothers performing another gospel tune called I Got It.

  • I Love this beautiful music!!! Grew up a little white girl and the sticks of Washington State, where my sisters' navy buddies loved these guys!! So do I, many, many years later! love peace and hippie beads!

  • So people get ready, there's a train a comin'

You don't need no baggage, you just get on board

All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'

Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

  • Great vocals!

  • Their cover of Otis Redding's "I Can't Turn You Loose" is as good a version at Otis' version.

  • @WallyPost I agree totally--I could listen to the Brothers crank out that song again and again! What a shame there is no mucic like this being made anymore. We had it made in the sixties-early 70's.

  • @buckize68

Yes ... the music of th 60s and 70s is about all there is for me to listen to. Actually, I heard The Chambers Brothers do "I Can't Turn You Loose" before I heard Otis. It was only after finding out that tune was an Otis Redding number did I discover Otis. Man oh man ... Otis, Sam & Dave, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Motown ... what tunes and what performers!

  • Great written by Curtis Mayfield

  • I saw these guys rip it at Villanova back in the day I think it was 1970 - in my head ever since-

  • Awesome vocals - so perfect, it could have been a studio recording. Beautiful rendition of the genius of Curtis Mayfield... this is what Soul is all about. Thanks for posting!

  • The greatest version of this song ever done.As much as I love Curtis and Beck/Stewart was almost a knockout(thanks more to Beck) this version(and the studio version) ranks as the greatest IMO.

  • I saw the Chambers Bros at Notre Dame University way back in 1969. I think it was at Steppin Center (sp?) and the guys were great! They wore these wild, satin costumes in bright colors, and put on one hell of a show. Seems to me each of the brothers looked to be about 6'3"--maybe it was platform shoes, but they looked tall and lean! It was wonderful to hear this song again. Their version is one of the best.

  • Only K-SHE in Crestwood would play the 11 minute version of Time Has Come Today back in 1968-69. No other St. Louis station would touch it. That album was my very first I ever bought and I still have it.

  • From France; excuse for bad english; I discovered chambers brothers in end of sixties. my favorite song (blues) "rock me mamma! but i "love" many pieces of them! salutations à tous les fans! i appreciate too sly and the family stone.

  • Beautiful! Forgot all about this great group and their great renditon of this song - thanks for posting it.

  • Takes me back to Sequoia High School in the late 60's

  • I remember the Chambers Brothers from the Xanadu Coffeehouse on Melsors Avenue in the early 1960s in Los Angeles. They would come in after their sets elsewhere and play informally. They deserve the highest national honors, long overdue. Always grateful to have known them so long ago.

  • Palmer's and Power Station are good, and I like Jeff Beck's. but all are cover's with a little difference of the Chamber's Brothers. The original was by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, early 60's. It was smooth and more harmony vocal oriented.

  • awesomeness in it's entirety! LOVE the Chambers Brothers!

  • Some peeps never get soul...so they miss out....Chambers Bros were the shizzle back when music was music and not...freakin' Autotune..!

  • No wonda they never made ot in my univerze. Kinda chuks. I like Power Station and Robert Palmers better, a lot better, i guess u had 2 B there and yoan... Time to zleep...

  • Hail, hail, time to get strong again ...!!!!

  • One Of My Fave CB's Tunes It Always Amazes Me To The Soul Thx!!!

  • OMG - this is the definitive version of one of my favorite songs!

  • Is it strange for people like me to love this stuff.

  • @GabriellaGear No way it's strange. Look at the rap crap that's out there yesterday and today. No comparison, for this music make's one feel good while the rap a dapper's make's one feel crazy.

  • ...goosebumps....

  • everytime I hear this it makes my heart happy - LOVE these guys

I was at this fantastic show ..back when!

  • Outstanding vocals

  • Every time I hear this song it gets to me - every single time . . .

  • we need to take heed to the words more than ever now.

  • Great, just great!!

  • awesome

  • Love this : )

  • p.S. Skip, and I and a whole lot of friends were at the Filmore for this.... Gina... so apros po

  • Thanks for posting. God bless CM. Saw the Chambers Brothers in 1968 in Seattle. "Time Has Come" drew in the white teen audience. But we didn't really know what we were wittnessing. How could we? We were still digging Inagoddadavita. But I do remember the Brothers singing this song. And hearing it now, 42 years later, I feel humbled and awestruck. And by the way, that show was opened by an unknown act called ZZ Top.

  • Anyone see this in Foundation's That's Life skate video?

  • @MegaKmann yeah man!!! it was ethan fowlers part. great song for a great part.

  • CB puts truth to Truth. Gracias your posting.

  • It doesn't really get any better than this.

  • The Best Interpretation of this song doubtless

  • I used to watch them perform this song at the "Downtown" in Greenwich Village......it's amazing in person. They played 2 nights per week. I worked with a lady who knew them well and we used to dance to their sets until the club closed. Later on they heard me sing with my group "The Five Sharks".....we did this song on a demo as a cover acapella..........

  • Thank you my friend for sharing this amazing video, Awesome

  • I like the Eva Cassidy version too :)

  • love the harmonies & the lyrics!!!

  • this is the best live version.....thanks!!!

  • I'm with you MegaShontell. I can't imagine this version being bettered. Many thanks to guillaimz for posting it.
