I ran a 4 unit Goss Community (3 grease units, 1 Oil bath unit) for 12 years for my in-laws... it had a community folder and was the original offset press in service since 1966. I left the paper in search of a better income away from family... and the paper burned to the ground in August of 2009... it was Arson...and the guy got away with it! What's the average salary for a Head Pressman today? I made about $9/hr... from 1996 till 2008.
Believe it or not, I am currently a pressman on a Goss community that looks exactly like this one, except we have 6 units, 4 on one side of the folder, and 2 on the other. I can't believe it's still running either.....it's older than I am...
@sleeplessingc Looks like it's running direct. There is a handwheel you install when running direct that disconnects the spring from the governor roller. In it's place the handwheel acts as the register. A Community mono unit has a circumferential on the 10-side to move your back to back either on the gear side (as this old unit prolly has) or the newer ones have it on the operator side. On the tree is your page compensator.
Im glad not to be running a Community anymore!

Thank you for sharing. With almost forty years experience as a pressman I still enjoy the smell of ink in the morning.

In the 70's I ran 8 units of that. No Circumferential pg1 registration and "slap some grease on the gears" lubrication system
