  • Im glad not to be running a Community anymore!

  • I ran a 4 unit Goss Community (3 grease units, 1 Oil bath unit) for 12 years for my in-laws... it had a community folder and was the original offset press in service since 1966. I left the paper in search of a better income away from family... and the paper burned to the ground in August of 2009... it was Arson...and the guy got away with it! What's the average salary for a Head Pressman today? I made about $9/hr... from 1996 till 2008.

  • After 30 years in publishing, I still LOVE that sound!

  • Thank you for sharing. With almost forty years experience as a pressman I still enjoy the smell of ink in the morning.

  • BY press i mean company made model ect.

  • what type of web press is this?

  • Believe it or not, I am currently a pressman on a Goss community that looks exactly like this one, except we have 6 units, 4 on one side of the folder, and 2 on the other. I can't believe it's still running either.....it's older than I am...

  • i run goss metro liners, with no circumfrential hod do they mantain register? gciu teamsters!!!!

  • @sleeplessingc Looks like it's running direct. There is a handwheel you install when running direct that disconnects the spring from the governor roller. In it's place the handwheel acts as the register. A Community mono unit has a circumferential on the 10-side to move your back to back either on the gear side (as this old unit prolly has) or the newer ones have it on the operator side. On the tree is your page compensator.

  • In the 70's I ran 8 units of that. No Circumferential pg1 registration and "slap some grease on the gears" lubrication system

  • boy that press is smaller and slower than the old 60's urbinite I ran back in the mid 80's. I wonder why I didn't see anyone checking product?

  • oh all the hours working as a jogger boy

man i hated working on a web press

please please put me on a sheet fed job shop press

  • I love a folder that delivers the product open end first. aaaaahhhh.....

  • Vintage frames no dought. Late 60's SC folder and units. Top speed around 14,000 IPH.

  • thats a good ol SC community. It looks like the same press i learned on 19 yrs ago. i can't believe those things are still running.

  • that looks like a damn folder jam
