If you listen carefully in the numerous appearances of the two, it has a very masculine voice, also in one of the illustrated book episodes, Renji speaks with Hisagi on what he should do should his zanpakuto break. Mayuri strolls along and offers to fix it, as well as upgrade it some way or another. Renji makes a refrence, screaming " You can change the gender of it too ? please do it right away ! "

Yeah I remember that Omake chapter.

The thing is

1. The voice ACTRESS apparently is all woman(Mitsuki Saiga). SHE apparently has a very deep voice, between an Alto and a Tener.

2. Zabimaru isn't human, it's just a manifestation of Renjis sword so it's not quite the same as a physical sex change of a human person.

3. Animated character, still sexy in my opinion.
