That is a Boeing 747, an American-made plane; you can tell by the elongated bulge behind the cockpit and the four pod-mounted engines under the wings. The plane that crashed was an Airbus 330, a French-made plane which is not really remarkable in it's design except for the fact that most of them have large '330' numbers on the tail fin.
