Ok, yes I understand that reducing nuclear capabilities is essential for world security and that sanctions imposed on nations who develop it are also essential in order to make them comply with international law. But, is the the United States of America also under that international law? does the US have nuclear capability? if so, why aren't there sanctions against it? in the same manner as sanctions are imposed on Iran?

the US doesn't have sanctions against it because it complies with the non-proliferation treaty: not giving nukes to allies (US nukes in EU are under US control) and reducing its stockpiles. US was long suspected of supping nukes to Israel, however Vanunu's scandal revealed Israel made their own devices at Dimona.

Iran was a signatory to the NPT, but was found to be in non-compliance, hence sanctions.

personally I believe the NPT to be a cold war relic that needs replacement.
