Well....mahagony+blackouts.....so awesome!!! Sounds lot better than the rg2228...but ofcourse that's just my oppinion! I always liked mahagony better!
@delvk dude when you install the blackouts or the emgs without tone knob, when installing all you have to do is to cut the wires that goes from volume to tone potenciometer? im going to buy blackouts or emgs (im still deciding between those two) for my rga8 too but i dont like tone knob. im also deciding if just buying the bridge pickup and take off the selector switch to make it simple having just the volume knob and fill the neck hole with one stock pickup (disconected)
@KmS69GlItChErS Actually, enough distortion but that kind of amp cant get the frequencies heard good enough with the low strings... if you would put more distortion to the sound, it would just crap the tone even more.
I'm getting this guitar soon, i'm just pissed about it having to put batteries in the stock pickups, i'll need to pick up some seymour duncans or bareknuckles.
what's the neck like on this guitar? i've been playing a 7 string RG for a while now, so hopefully it won't be too much of a shock to my hands
Can't tell if they will improve your sound, but they will change it for shure. I've compared Duncans to EMG707 and Duncans have more output, less high mids, more lows and more highs and better dynamics, but I like them both ... can't tell which one is better.
@delvk i would say blackouts are better for really shreddy and precise stuff but if i was gonna play like deathcore i would definitely go with the emgs
@magocacana not sure if this post is up to date, but you might test the atx8 from schecter. it's got SDs so you can compare (though the sound sucked a lot, playing through a marshall haze..)
@magocacana sd blackouts gives a really good tone on guitar... i use SD blackouts metal on my esp M-III Deluxe (custom shop) i am 100% pleased with the sound but well... all this is a matter of taste :) i suggest you go in a local music store and use some guitars they have these pick ups first and take a lil taste about their sound on your own hands:) on me they sound heavier, more lows , mids and highs etc.. but all this as i said is a matter of taste:)
Hi, I've replaced the stock switch with EMG PA2. There is not enough space for 9V in the stock battery cavity, but there is enough space in the volume/5-way switch cavity. The wiring diagram on mine now is the same wiring diagram, that can be found on Duncan's site, just without Tone control and PA2 between volume and output jack.
I'm not sure what the stock tuning was, maybe it was standard, but I'm using it with E,B,G,D,A,E,B,F# tuning now and I think the gauge is .009/ .011/ .016/ .024/ .032/ .042/ .054/ .065
Well, maybe the sound of the video isn't presenting the sound of the guitar and pickups at their best but for me there is a huge difference between the stock pickups and Blackouts ... huge in terms of everything - dynamics, sound, feel ... but from another point of view - different ears, different tastes :)
does the neck dives?

now that you've got a new set of pickups, do you still need to put batteries in the guitar?

Good playing and tone man, screw the naysayers. What drove you to switch the pickups out?

Nice playing. Switch the Duncans out for some Q-tuner BL5 medium Zs, and the guitar will be awesome.

Hi !
Will get an RGA 8, and a blackout set too soon.
Can you tell me if you've kept the switch, or just move it.
Is there enought place in the battery cavity for a 9V ?
If you've got the wiring diagram on your, i would like to see it if you can.
Thanks !!

Ok thanks !
One more question, what is the stock string tuning and gauge on the RGA 8 ? (standard tuning ?)
Did you set it up diferently ?
Thanks mate !
