  • damn that is some nice growl

  • Is there a OD pedal in front of this for more gain?

  • @bozley2005 No overdrive pedal, but it was a hot bridge pickup.

  • This IS the Facelift era Alice in Chains tone!

  • @TheSWAFF Yeah, I was just backtracking from a site that said Cantrell used a Bogner preamp on his rack. Listening to this I hear "Facelift."

  • Initial riff sounded like "Flight Over Rio" by Al DiMeola. Been thinking about one of these amps myself.

  • ive always overlooked this amp cuz ive heard it cant do metal, where is your gain at on the od channel right now and does it get even more saturated than it is in this vid ... ive had uberschalls and i know it cant get that crazy but im convinced this amp can get brutal in the right hands ...

  • Dude, your improv is better than anything VanHalen has done in 30 years!

  • I wish i had that amp.

  • traducción del español al inglés

as is this amp to play the darkness, ozzy osbourne, oasis bon jovi etc etc etc?

    thanks and regards

  • god tone dude. fa sho. my dream amp.

  • I saw your vidoe using the enater renegade live and it sounded really good. Have you played the shiva out live? I bought one but even though I tried really hard to like it I just couldn't connect with it so I sold it. Thanks for you videos!

  • @Wolftin3 Thanks! I gigged with the Shiva once or twice and couldn't bond with it. It was either muffled or bright and harsh. I could never find a good balanced middle ground.

Personally, I think the Egnater Renegade sounds ALOT better than the older Shiva I had.

  • gahhh that must've set you back

  • thats not a sour note! :P sounds great man

  • really great sound !

  • That set up just oozes toneful bliss keep rock'n!

  • Absolutely beautiful tone! What was the first thing you played?!

  • @Lazur120 Thanks! That's just a riff I made up right before I hit the record button on the camera.

  • man your tone screams jerry cantrell. he used bogner and metro amps.

  • what is the thing on top of the shiva

  • @nickfromdtown1992 It's a Rocktron Intellifex.

  • @SgtThump thanks

  • Alot of that is the camera I used to record. It sucks. I now have a Zoom Q3 and any of my more recent clips sound MUCH better!

  • THUMP, can you shoot me an email? I lost your email. This is richedie. You still have it? I am thinking of selling my Egnater and wanted your opinion vs the Shiva, Soldano and maybe a Splawn. -Rich

  • Les Paul through a Shiva! I'm rocking the same setup! Nice choice.

  • Awesome sound!

I'm saving some money to buy a guitar, but here in Brazil guitar is too expensive. So you need to have sure. Gibson Les Paul Standard or PRS Custom 24? Thanks!

  • In general, I prefer Gibson guitars over most others. I go for tone first and foremost and I just love the tone of Gibsons.

The PRS will give you a lighter guitar, slimmer body shape, alot of versatility, etc... But you really just need to check them out in person to hear the difference in tone and feel how they both play. They're very different.

Me, I'll take my Les Paul. :)

  • i agree. i go for tone and playability. as far as versatility goes im not too concerned because most guitars in that price range can get a variety of sounds. i love les pauls, es 335s, strats, g&l teles, and gretsch

  • hey, cool playing great vid. I just got the shiva el34. what are your settings? just curious.

  • Thanks! I no longer own a Shiva and I can't really remember the settings I used. Sorry!

  • amazing tone...Gibson R8+tube amp= win

  • Thanks man. This guitar is the real deal. No doubt. I've owned alot of guitars and this one is without a doubt my #1 favorite of all time. Nothing will ever top it. Seriously.

  • to make it even better as a suggestion have you ever considered replacing the burstbucker with a seymour duncan 59' neck?

  • I've had the Duncan '59 Model neck in a few guitars and it's definitely a nice neck pickup. I didn't care for the bridge model as much, but like both the Duncan '59 Model and Jazz neck pickups.

However, I don't think it would beat the stock BurstBucker in the neck of this Les Paul!!! Seriously. This is the best neck humbucker tone I've ever had!

  • How much would just the head cost in australian or usa money? can you even get them in australia?

  • Rocktron makes killer effects that work great with GOOD amps. However, I got sick of racks os I went back to analog pedals - MXR Carbon Copy for delay! :)

  • Does the Rocktron take away a lot of the tone when in the loop? been looking for a good delay for my Shiva that doesn't mess with the mojo.

  • No it doesn't! The Rocktron Intellifex is an amazing unit! It works perfectly in the loop of the "old style" Shiva and you don't even need to use those funky cables with resistors in line.

I noticed somewhere (maybe the manual?) that Bogner actually used a Rocktron Intellifex when designing the loop. But I found that it worked great before I read that.

  • Cool, been trying other delays and they all drastically change the tone in some way. (At least with the Shiva).

  • Nothing like the sound of a Les Paul into a cranked tube amp!!! Awesome sound you got there!

  • Rio Grande makes some great pickups. I have two black pearl half breeds in my tele. They are sweet. Takes forever to have them made though.

  • Getting the BBQ bucker for my strat (bridge) At what point are you playing the bbq?

  • I just watched this video again and I'm 99% sure I'm playing on the bridge BBQ pickup the entire time.

  • @SgtThump Just got the BBQ installed last night. I have Fender Hot noiseless in the neck and middle. BBQ in the bridge of course. It tokk some fiddling with the height to get it to sound right. Made the forth position useless though. Did you have a problem with a quiet popping sound when you pluck a string initially? I had to try different setting with my amp to get rid of the popping noise. I know if you have pickups to close that can happened. I lowered them right down and it was still there.

  • Hmmm... Can't say I ever noticed a popping noise??? If you fret your low E string on the highest fret and check the pickup height, is it pretty high or no?

(don't mean to act like you have no clue - just asking)

  • @SgtThump

I did some more tweaking and things are the way they should be. Sounds amazing!!! Now that I have finally found my sound in regards to pickups, I want another guitar to experiment with pickups. Rio Grande all the way!!!

  • Awesome! Glad to hear you worked things out!

  • Nice sound!! I used to have a Shiva and went through a lot of pu's. Another one worth trying is a Blues Saraceno Trembucker from Duncan. Matches up nicely with that particular box.

I think the BBQ is my next purchase! Thanks for the post.

  • i love that tone

  • what song its the riff that u play in the begining of the video?

  • Just something I made up right then on the spot. In most of my videos, I'm making up riffs right there as I'm playing them.

  • Awesome tone.

  • email sent,,,later!

  • Dude, are you on the The Gear Page? I wanted to send you an email. Later!

  • Yeah, I'm on there. I'll send you a message through YouTube with my email too.

  • nice tone man, and playing too, sounded kinda 80's, really cool

  • Dude, what pot value do you use with the Rio BBQ? 500k???

  • Hey man, how's it going? I have the stock CTS pots and "Bumblebee" Reissue cap in my R8. I believe they're 500k.

  • I have tried tons of pickups, hand wound, you name it. Always come back to the BBQ!

  • awesome tone man!

  • that "sour note" actually sounded really good...

  • Wow that shiva sounds great. I never realized you could get such a great rock tone with them

  • Pardon my ignorance but could I get the title for the first song so I can search for the tablature. Cheers.

  • That's just a riff I made up while I was making this video. Most of the time, I don't really think about what I'm going to play ahead of time and just go for it. lol... Sometimes it comes out cool (like this riff, IMO), but other times I fail miserably. :)

  • Hey Chris, its your former corporate band mate! How's it goin'? Hey I need some advice from the master o' tone. I know you are the Rio Brande BBQ master. Ever tried one in a Strat? I'm looking for a fat, smokey humbucker that still has bite for my Am. Fat Strat. Any suggestions! You're soundin' awesome by the way dude!

  • Dave! Hey, I'll send you a message with my email address.

But yeah, I have had the BBQ in a hardtail strat and it ROCKED! It's definitely fat and smokey! That describes it perfectly. Really thick meaty tone. My favorite pickup!

  • amazingly smooth sound for v30s. Props.

  • what effects are you running ?? A bit of reverb or delay ?? Love your playing and the tone that you get. Way cool !!!!

  • Thanks! It was reverb only until around the 1:25 mark where I clicked over to delay only. I went back to reverb only around 1:52 or so.

  • man that shiva sounds great !

  • The Shiva and AC30 are totally different, so it's hard to compare them.

  • Comment removed

  • They're just different. AC30s are often described as "chimey" or "jangly." No doubt great for songs from the Beatles, Tom Petty, etc... But they also have a unique higher gain tone. Listen to Queen for an example of an AC30 with a treble booster.

The Bogner Shiva is totally different. Alot of low mids to give it a thick voice. Lots of mids too. Way different voicing.

Either would work. Just depends on the voicing you like.

  • The BBQ continues to amaze! Do you gig with the BBQ? Guys complain about cut, not me!

  • I'm not gigging much right this second, but yeah. I have gigged alot with the BBQ in the recent past. No problem at all with cut!

  • I am thinking the BBQ/Texas will kill in my 89 SG. Glad to hear they cut for you live.

  • No prob! I highly recommend the Bogner 2x12". It's not much smaller than a 4x12", but the slightly reduced size makes it easy to throw in the car trunk. It's also light and easier for one person to move around.

I've never tried the CAA cabs.

  • Comment removed

  • whats best 212 oversized or 412 marshall?

  • Both rocked, but I much prefer the Bogner "oversized" 2x12" cab. It's warmer and more pleasing to my ears.

  • Very good sound!

    It's burstbucker, 1 , 2 or pro?

    Thx

  • oh yeah... that DOES sound good!!!!

  • Fantastic Tone!

  • Great tone and playing Sgt!!!

Really diggin it with the LP.

Is that a mod switch on the top row between the 2nd and third knobs on the right?

    Peace

    Slay

  • Thanks man. That's the mod from Bogner that makes the distortion channel boost adjustable. The amount of gain boost is set, but that knob adjusts the volume when the boost is selected. I use it for a lead boost live and it works great!

  • Nice!!

Bro that's really some killer tone you got coming out of that Shiva!!

  • Sounds very "Fuck yeaaaaah"

    Know what I mean? :)

  • Sounds great.

  • That's my baby Black Mamba sneaking around back there. They make a great house pet.

  • I can see a cord hanging out behind your amp. Please tidy that up.

    Thank you
