ive always overlooked this amp cuz ive heard it cant do metal, where is your gain at on the od channel right now and does it get even more saturated than it is in this vid ... ive had uberschalls and i know it cant get that crazy but im convinced this amp can get brutal in the right hands ...
I saw your vidoe using the enater renegade live and it sounded really good. Have you played the shiva out live? I bought one but even though I tried really hard to like it I just couldn't connect with it so I sold it. Thanks for you videos!
@Wolftin3 Thanks! I gigged with the Shiva once or twice and couldn't bond with it. It was either muffled or bright and harsh. I could never find a good balanced middle ground.
Personally, I think the Egnater Renegade sounds ALOT better than the older Shiva I had.
THUMP, can you shoot me an email? I lost your email. This is richedie. You still have it? I am thinking of selling my Egnater and wanted your opinion vs the Shiva, Soldano and maybe a Splawn. -Rich
I'm saving some money to buy a guitar, but here in Brazil guitar is too expensive. So you need to have sure. Gibson Les Paul Standard or PRS Custom 24? Thanks!
In general, I prefer Gibson guitars over most others. I go for tone first and foremost and I just love the tone of Gibsons.
The PRS will give you a lighter guitar, slimmer body shape, alot of versatility, etc... But you really just need to check them out in person to hear the difference in tone and feel how they both play. They're very different.
i agree. i go for tone and playability. as far as versatility goes im not too concerned because most guitars in that price range can get a variety of sounds. i love les pauls, es 335s, strats, g&l teles, and gretsch
Thanks man. This guitar is the real deal. No doubt. I've owned alot of guitars and this one is without a doubt my #1 favorite of all time. Nothing will ever top it. Seriously.
I've had the Duncan '59 Model neck in a few guitars and it's definitely a nice neck pickup. I didn't care for the bridge model as much, but like both the Duncan '59 Model and Jazz neck pickups.
However, I don't think it would beat the stock BurstBucker in the neck of this Les Paul!!! Seriously. This is the best neck humbucker tone I've ever had!
Rocktron makes killer effects that work great with GOOD amps. However, I got sick of racks os I went back to analog pedals - MXR Carbon Copy for delay! :)
No it doesn't! The Rocktron Intellifex is an amazing unit! It works perfectly in the loop of the "old style" Shiva and you don't even need to use those funky cables with resistors in line.
I noticed somewhere (maybe the manual?) that Bogner actually used a Rocktron Intellifex when designing the loop. But I found that it worked great before I read that.
@SgtThump Just got the BBQ installed last night. I have Fender Hot noiseless in the neck and middle. BBQ in the bridge of course. It tokk some fiddling with the height to get it to sound right. Made the forth position useless though. Did you have a problem with a quiet popping sound when you pluck a string initially? I had to try different setting with my amp to get rid of the popping noise. I know if you have pickups to close that can happened. I lowered them right down and it was still there.
Hmmm... Can't say I ever noticed a popping noise??? If you fret your low E string on the highest fret and check the pickup height, is it pretty high or no?
(don't mean to act like you have no clue - just asking)
I did some more tweaking and things are the way they should be. Sounds amazing!!! Now that I have finally found my sound in regards to pickups, I want another guitar to experiment with pickups. Rio Grande all the way!!!
Nice sound!! I used to have a Shiva and went through a lot of pu's. Another one worth trying is a Blues Saraceno Trembucker from Duncan. Matches up nicely with that particular box.
I think the BBQ is my next purchase! Thanks for the post.
That's just a riff I made up while I was making this video. Most of the time, I don't really think about what I'm going to play ahead of time and just go for it. lol... Sometimes it comes out cool (like this riff, IMO), but other times I fail miserably. :)
Hey Chris, its your former corporate band mate! How's it goin'? Hey I need some advice from the master o' tone. I know you are the Rio Brande BBQ master. Ever tried one in a Strat? I'm looking for a fat, smokey humbucker that still has bite for my Am. Fat Strat. Any suggestions! You're soundin' awesome by the way dude!
Dave! Hey, I'll send you a message with my email address.
But yeah, I have had the BBQ in a hardtail strat and it ROCKED! It's definitely fat and smokey! That describes it perfectly. Really thick meaty tone. My favorite pickup!
They're just different. AC30s are often described as "chimey" or "jangly." No doubt great for songs from the Beatles, Tom Petty, etc... But they also have a unique higher gain tone. Listen to Queen for an example of an AC30 with a treble booster.
The Bogner Shiva is totally different. Alot of low mids to give it a thick voice. Lots of mids too. Way different voicing.
Either would work. Just depends on the voicing you like.
No prob! I highly recommend the Bogner 2x12". It's not much smaller than a 4x12", but the slightly reduced size makes it easy to throw in the car trunk. It's also light and easier for one person to move around.
Thanks man. That's the mod from Bogner that makes the distortion channel boost adjustable. The amount of gain boost is set, but that knob adjusts the volume when the boost is selected. I use it for a lead boost live and it works great!
damn that is some nice growl

Is there a OD pedal in front of this for more gain?

@bozley2005 No overdrive pedal, but it was a hot bridge pickup.

@TheSWAFF Yeah, I was just backtracking from a site that said Cantrell used a Bogner preamp on his rack. Listening to this I hear "Facelift."
