  • we are still married, but you are dying of a wound beyond my depth. Our divine mother cannot see herself in the mirror, mother nature is set upon murder, her husband is the last man she cares enough about to make this effort...this video is about rape of the soul...on another level, the girl is Alice of Wonderland, PLEASE NOTE: she's trying to gain office in Canada though it's going to take time, ELECT ALICE!!!! CANADA WONDERLAND!!!, I am the rabbit and I will be at her side...LOVE will win!!!

  • Stop at 0:32-0:33. I think that this animation is about a girl who was raped by a man, the one that keeps banging in the window. The rabbit tries to symbolize the fact that she's trying to protect herself by falling into her childhood. The rabbit tries to fend the ping-pong ball (tear) off. The regular motion made by the little girl is in fact her trying to grow mentally (stretches her legs), but always falls back down. This shows that she is denied that possibility. That is my interpretation.

  • His Name Is Alive is the perfect group for this.

  • God, this gives me the creeps in a way I find irresistible.

  • @TheCrescentFresh Yeah, me too. What is it?

  • This video makes me think of a widow, suicide, forcing someone to grow old, a separation of some sort with an idea/person/thing, a memory that keeps comming back, the part where the rabbit fights against the lil ball and the more he fights the more it fights back but when he stops the lil ball stops..like a reflection of himself then he gets tired of reflecting or fighting back lol but then again I might be super off on both =P

and yeah alice in wonderland too ;P hehe

  • Somehow, the footage of this video reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

  • Spent almost an hour in french class studying all the simbolism in this video, it sorta traumatised us.

  • and what are your findings?

  • Well from the lengthy discussion we had in class, we deduced that it's a film about sexual abuseat a young age and the effects on the victim afterwards. For one, the up and down motion of the doll is to represent the difficulty the victim (a girl in this case) has with growing up "normally". The hand banging against the door represents the outside world and the fact that the hand can't get in means she's refusing to let people near her. There's much more, but I won't go into too much detail.

  • hmmm, interesting!

  • I agree with you. Additionally, this video also seems to be either a sequel or prequel to "Can't Go Wrong Without You"; in that particular video we see the same female character (complete with thorns on her finger) standing on a weighing device. An egg drops, and blood spills. A forced abortion? The chorus for "Can't Go Wrong" is "The Devil breaks both your hands, takes your stuff and runs away"

Seems like a theatrical play broken into Acts. Very Quay I've got to say. What are your thoughts?

  • @m00nEater through out the internet you may find a scan of the main ideas for both videos written by the hand of the quays... and let me tell you its quite simple just like d lynch... its the just this erratic narrative they're so fond about it makes theyr filming so much more esoteric... i had such huge crush on all of their films (short and long)

  • it is sadness.

  • beautifully done; I loved it.

  • So damn depressing...

  • exelente el trabajo de estos hermanos la cagaron los ql capos me gustaria poder hacer cortos asi

  • Simplemente ...genial ...oscuro

    desgarrador de almas.

  • saw this vid on IFC

    trippy much..

  • I really love the three versions of are we still married, and the lyric that is different

  • i remember having a scan of a letter of the quays sketching what they wanted to do in terms of narrative for this piece and the cant go wrong one and how they took simplistic ideas and made it into the magnificent videos that exist it just blows me away

  • awesome ass vedio :) Sppoky and sad and...idk lol

  • can't find this verison anywhere :(

  • Dull;

  • I know you can find the other versions of the song on 'Home Is in Your Head' and 'Dirt Eaters' but I think the lack of drums in the version in the video suits the song best. Was this particular version just for the video or can it be found on any HNIA releases?

  • Amazing video......

  • Ace track..awesome video...*****

  • i rwally love the three versions

  • magic band.

  • Magicians, these brothers Quay.

  • Does any one know from which album this particular version of "Are we still Married?" is taken from?

  • Dirt Eaters EP.

  • 'Home Is in Your Head' is the complete album with 2 version of this song. this version is a on the US release which is great because it has like 5 more songs than the 1st release.

  • I like this version too, but like the Home version better.

  • quay brothers are the smoothest stop motion animators ever.

  • totally totally agree.

  • wonderfully depressing and morose, just like me.

  • Excelente video, excelente canción y excelente banda. Saludos desde México =)

  • I keep this on my tivo. Brothers quay is amazing and this creeped me out so much. I love this one but my favorite is the one right after this video,I dont know the name of it but its a part two to are we still married. Bros quay is the best!

  • wonderful song, so atmospheric. great video.

  • MuchMusic...City Limits...this used to scare the fuck out of me when I was a kid.

  • This is scary

  • My most favorite Brothers Quay animation. Incredible stuff.

    Plus, the song is amazing

  • I you love this video, watch the film Meshes of the Afternoon ;)

  • one of the best music videos ever made.

  • You should see the full length movie Institute Benjamenta by the Brothers Quay.

  • stop motion is cool, but what about "are we still married?" this has to be one of the best songs ever written and put on record. his name is alive is a fantastic band and every new incarnation is just as good or better than the previous. go, war!

  • Stop motion is such an incredible art form. The Brothers Quay are artistic geniuses. We need more people like them to keep this genre alive!!

  • I'm one of those people haha. I look up to the Quay Brothers very much

  • stop motion animation is so friggin' creepy
