Well back then in R&B indeed was a working trick to get Mew. Without AR. I remember you had to fly away from that trainer when you came out of the tunnel. Then were 2 possible trainers you had to defeat. After that I could just fly to Lavender town and walk towards the field where the tunnel is. On its border I could catch Mew then. If I did not defeat one of the trainers which brought Mew, it could be another Pokemon. Fact is, that worked back then.
