  • All the philosophy behind the characters movements is superberd. It represents humanity's fragile condition while crossing the bridge of lufe towards a common direction that is equallity of all the humankind.

  • my head hurts

  • THIS IS WITCHCRAFT!! BURN IT!!!

  • Created to test the equipment, I presume? Cool seeing a glimpse of life in 1888.

  • Why dont they use cars? :P

  • @WockesZero Cars hadn't been invented in 1888

  • This is in Leeds, West Yorkshire UK. The bridge was built in 1730 and still stands today. Dispite all the people scoffing, you have to admit it is really pretty good for its time.

  • I watched this movie 10 times in a row...I can't stop!

  • @inspektura43 lol a whopping 30 secs :P

  • The people who were walking on this bridge could be proud to be part of one of the first movies in history.

  • NEED MORE RAM! Lol

  • It gets better from 1 second in

  • 33 years before Laurel and Hardy worked together.

  • Wow ,it realised 97 years before i born!!!1888

  • anybody notice the truck in the background near the sign that says G.U.L.L.I.B.L.E

  • I don't care how short it is.. that's pretty freakin cool!

  • Wow so action packed!!!

  • An early road safety film: Think once, think twice, think horse-drawn cart piled high with fuckin great bales of hay!

  • I saw Jack the Ripper at 0:02

  • The best part was when that guy jaywalked across the street.

  • Great to see proof streets have never, really been paved with gold!

  • r they still alive

  • Proud to be from Leeds, the birthplace of cinema.

  • ran a little long but still very good!!!!!!

  • Avatar aint got shit on this.

  • exactly 100 years till i was born

  • Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80s

  • the rich man the better the king so help one another its the least we can do for one daay we shall all say goodbye.

I am the geezer crossing the road wow it was a hot day

  • it looks like it was made in macromedia flash 8

  • Love that guy slightly walking down the street in the right hand center while blowing his nose on his sleeve then throwing it around!

    What a pimp!

  • @kamuinoyume yeah I wonder if that bogey is still siiting somewhere on that street

  • It's surreal seeing actual people doing things from the 1800's

  • Two seconds is a lifetime in Leeds. And nothings changed.

  • I liked the part when that guy walked across the road...

  • Seriously though, why is it only 2 seconds? Was the maximum memory card capacity back then only 50Kb ??

  • Protip: Every human and animals in this video is dead.

  • You should watch the un-rated version.

  • I came

  • the director's cut was better.

  • I think stuff like this is awesome. It's like a time machine.

  • i wish i could see the full video, or is this the full video? its amazing.

  • the 80s is my favorite decade lol

  • 13 Dislikes..?? Who the HELL didn't like it..??

  • @aarinzz The dislikes were people who do not appreciate these kinds of films. Yes, it may have been 2 seconds, but the more film to purchase, the more expensive it was. There may have been no sound, but this was before audio was captured. I know what you mean, though. This is an AWESOME piece of history. This was filmed back in Late October of 1888, according to Wikipedia. So, it will be 123 years this coming Fall. I am 19, and I have an old soul, which I love.

  • He was the killer the whole time!?

  • imagine this in IMAX...

  • cant wait till the sequal

  • Which surveillance camera is it?

  • That's awesome. I can't imagine people in the 1800's paying money to go to a theater and watch this...>.> And then they say, "This is the greatest film in the history of history!"

    ...then again, they probably did.

  • Can't wait for the 3D remake.

  • @Neverborn86 LOL!!!!

  • I'm thinking about making a bootleg version.

  • This is not a VIDEO, it's a FILM. Those two words do not mean the same thing. They're two very different technologies.

  • clips like this amaze me, we had this technology so long ago

  • i just realized that all those people, horses, technology (except for the camera, of course) are dead!!! o_O

  • you guys dont really now how important these films are

  • I love the, I am assuming, mom in the bottom right corner stopping her son, assuming, from crossing the street. nothing is changed much.

  • wow!!!!!!! did you see that part in 0:02!

  • best motion picture of the year goes to.....THE ONLY MOVIE!! CONGRATULATIONS

  • The Roundhay Garden was the first video ever, this was the second. obviously..

  • Wow, all those people in that 3 secs are now dead. Sad....

  • ho-ly- SHIT... thats cool.

  • Good times

  • Didn't they have iPhones back then?

  • The world must have been a much quieter place back then for cityfolk. Galloping horses & people talking with the occasional sound of live music, the smell was probably a mix of steamed or grilled meats & veggies w/ poor sewage maintanence issues. Crazy but true.

  • I see DEAD people lol

  • @princealiomaha

Oh! Really? You changed my life telling me this!

  • It's funny how a 3 second long clip can be so FASCINATING!

  • Is this film in cinemas anywhere?

  • HOLY CRAP!? I think I saw a Toyoto Horse 1HP

  • WTF? No FULL HD?

  • @DOLLARCRISIS hahaha

  • This is so awesome, absolutely amazing to see the oldest known footage left to man.

  • @insanelook The oldest known footage is Round Hay garden scene. But you were close! This is the second movie ever made.

  • Much better than i expected

  • Even though it's only 3 seconds long i find this video to be facinating because you atleast get a small peek in how the average life used to look like 120 years ago. Also, think how much movies has developed since this was shot.

  • We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time

    -Bob Parsons

  • Oldest video happened exactly 100 years before I was born.

  • I still prefer this to any of the Harry Potter movies

  • makes avatar look like a home video

  • Wonder if any one of them in this video is still alive.

  • @capricorncoool

    Make an educated guess

  • @wafflecoaster123 I`m just sayin ! :/

  • @capricorncoool The oldest (known) living people were born in 1896, so none of the people on this video is alive

  • @capricorncoool

    ha no problem man :P

  • You see a guy crossing the street, people walking, talking, living their lives. It's so funny to us now because it's like they never existed, but on the day this was shot that was reality. The dust on the road, carriages pulled by horses, markets serving their customers, gossip, chit-chat, and even hopes and dreams. We think we're so better, but in reality we will be just like these people in 112 years. The people of that reality will mock our tastes, our films, our clothes, so enjoy while here

  • Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge VS Roundhay Garden Scene for 1888 best picture. who would win?

  • my favorite part was when that one dude walked down the sidewalk

  • @Naruhinaluver15 That was Jack the Ripper

  • @TheGayestGuyOnEarth really where ARE the cops when you need them LOL

  • @Naruhinaluver15 I wonder what he'd say if he knew that one day, far in the future, almost two hundred thousand people would have seen him do it, and someone would call him 'dude'...

  • @moglove109 LOL

  • @moglove109 life is crazy huh, imagine we will be the same way . people over a hundred years in the future will be like damn that you tube was old and useless! lol.....damn it all life is wack.

  • @JiuClaw22 yeh! or maybe youtube will conquer the world!! and we'll all be slaves to the internet tyranny!

  • Is this in high def?

  • @BigJonBone it's in 3D!!!

  • @Nin10doWaluigi Damn, too bad I recycled my 3D glasses before I left the theater.

  • i remember this, im 168yrs old but the book of records doesnt gives a shit, they think im trolling w/ them, n then im like, im not trolling you hoe.

  • Hah! They are all dead now!

  • @BigUndertaker really

  • @staypress ^_^' Yes

  • @BigUndertaker thanks by the way do you work with dead bodies

  • no niggers ! ahhhhh the good old days

  • @MrFamilyguy777 hahahahahah love it

  • I thought the first motion picture was from a horse running. Because a man (i forgotten his name) wanted to discover if a horse, when it runs, has a moment when there's no foot touching the ground! And so he has taken a lot of photos from a horse running and then he discovered if you take all these pictures and play them, there's a movie (I'm so sorry for my english, but I'm german and I can't speak soo good.. : /)

  • @UmaLacka Yes, that was the first video of sorts taken, but according the the sources I read, he took that video with multiple cameras, like 21 if I remember correctly, and made a flipbook style animation I think. Then the Roundhay Garden Scene was recorded and proclaimed the first ever movie on film, which was in 1888... So yeah, that horse movie was the first one.

  • Look! There's Waldo!

  • What's the vehicle on the left?

  • @WorldChallenge It's a cart, loaded to the sky with bales... Of what? Who knows.

I love how slowly life moved, then. Human. We've lost something important, with all our speedy toys.

  • I liked the part when the traffic crossed the bridge.

  • That's me in the dark coat.

  • And just to think these people went the rest of their lives probably without knowing they were the first people to be on film. Just amazing

  • This video has better quality than lots of camera phones of today.

  • And the 1888 Academy Award for Best Motion Picture goes to...

  • @Surenity Roundhay Garden Scene!

  • @staypress

    You are very easily trolled.

  • Is this in HD?

  • thumbs up for an oscar

  • I used to spend way to much time on youtube

  • Its Jesus!!! lol!

  • so long ago

  • Wonder if Jack the Ripper is in that shot? Where's the bridge anyway?

  • @rickv404 Yeah, you're right! There's no damned bridge! You advertised a bridge and I wanna see it! RIP OFF! I want my Tuppence back!

  • @archer1949 That is a bridge and you can see the stone wall to the right side the picture. It is still there today as are all the building including the one it is filmed from. The far building centre picture is now a Macdonalds. My brother actually lives in the building this is filmed from. I overlooks the river in central Leeds.

  • Shocking,Eye-popping, and brilliant........Nothing Scorcese, Spielberg, or Cameron....could ever compete against....

  • This is terrible. The motion picture business will never become a hit.

  • @Coolak64 Haha.

  • hey its me!

  • wow. the second film ever. this proves there were times like dis.

  • soon in 3d

  • My favourite film of 1888.

  • That one guy is bad ass

  • these people have all been dead ALONG time...creepy to see them alive

  • Where is HD?

  • Wish I was there! if only for 5 mins. wow, a real piece of history. in time and age, long gone... When you really think about it, its freaking incredible.

  • I guess that 122 years from now on the year 2132 some guy watches videos of us when we lived just like we are watching these people who have lived theyr lives long long time ago. Time wasnt any different back then and it would have seemed just as weird to them that 122 years from the moment of filming some ppl in 2010 are watching this film. Our films are gonna be lot weirder since we have advanced films so the ppl in 2132 see 122 old people in full color and sound O_o

  • @finnishzeldaman that how the life goes ^_^

  • I like that guy with his enormous hat on the right side^^

  • Jack the Ripper was about then!

  • @LokiV Exactly then! For all we know, he could have been one of those people.

  • Fucking epic. Best part is the person jaywalking in the background.

  • starring harrison ford

  • i want it in blu-ray;)

  • 3 seconds of sex, violence and pure adreniline. I'd give it two thumbs up, but my thumbs smell awful.

  • @TheOildrumsofVagisil

haha even your username is disgusting

  • lol, look at the guy in the back, all dressed in black!
