My pitbull mix lives in the same house as my parents' german shepherds. he's smarter, faster and much more loving than the shepherds but they're all awesome dogs.
You cant really see this as a breed vs breed fight as most of you do, the gsd if much bigger than the pit, pound for pound the pit IS stonger but the size difference make this "fight" uneven.

If i was a farmer with livestock I would notp ut my livestock on the line by buying a GSD. I would buy a proper LGD that is larger, stronger and more well adapted to fighting Wolves. Not a breed that was bred for all-round work.

When i say Bull Terrier i mean the three, APBT, AMstaff and the SBT. Anydog can be trained to do whatever you want them to do, some make that training easier than others.
I can honestly say i wld have no worries owning a well bred, fit, athletic APBT. Here in AUS there r that many staff/Staff X dogs that need rehoming, people buy them because they do have that menacing look.(i love their faces mind you) then they work out they a too nice of a dog and not the vicious 1 they thought it wld b
This is 1% of the time, the other 99% the staff takes it easy to make the game enjoyable.

Bull terrier breed is less likely to attack a human, because they are bred to love humans inc kids, and to fight other DOGS not humans
great dog also, not as willing to meet new people like the staffy, i mean he is friendly but not to the extent of the stafford. on the other hand love meeting new dogs all the time.
When the two play around they do this for hours on end, i dont know where they find the energy. I will say this, when the staff has decided he wants to be dominant, my GSD tries but gets taken down every time without fail.

My parents have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier the smaller variety often referred to the the English Staffordshire terrier but in fact they are simply the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He weighs 17kg and stands a mere 38cm tall absolutely fantastic dog and a pleasure to be around.
I own a GSD, he has massive drive to chase wild animals in the bush, rabbits, kangaroos etc... He is 30kg and stands 63cm high.
German shepherds are bigger,smarter,have a bigger bite force,and are trained to attack and protect. Pit bulls are stronger,faster, more aggressive,and are trained to kill and fight. So i have to say its a tie, it also depends who are their owners.

I have nothing against Pits, but people who own them alot of times try and say there jaws are so strong,, the thing is, yes, they are strong because of the fighting history, but German shepherds were bred to not only defend people, but to defend sheep from predators, German shepherds have one of the strongest bites of all dogs, and are the ultimate guard and protection dogs!
@1sowild you have to understand one thing, pit's might not have the strongest jaw, but in a fight it's not all about bite. pit's would never withdraw from the fight, they are more energetic, agile, bloodthirsty. in a fight, if german shepherd receive some bites, he will try to avoid further fight and to runaway if he sees that he can't dominate the fight, and on the other side pit will fight to the death.
point is, 9 times out of 10, pit would kill German shepherd easily.

Backing down is NOT in them, they can get hit with bats, shot, and still take out a criminal. Yes, Pits are used to fight, but against other 40lb Pits! I'm very realistic and I don't want to argue with you - I admit - GSs are better police dogs, easier to train, better territory guards, great all-round dog and it is well-known. But on the other side, pits are more affectionate and loving, extremely loyal, and much stronger without a shadow of a doubt.
@AspectOfThePack No, i dont take it as arguing, what it honestly comes down to is every Pit and every GSD has different ht and wt, and as far as one tougher than the other, they are both tough, territorial dogs, and though i am AGAINST dogfighting, if a GSD attacked a Pits owner, the GSD would be in trouble, and vice versa, as a Pit would be in trouble if it attacked a GSD owner. Both are loyal loving dogs that are protective of there owners.
@1sowild Any gamedog with a good ancestory, not like the redboy dog on ap, has a way higher bite than that. Rapid Roy killed a timberwolf while he was chained on his spot, and Chinaman snapped bones like twigs and so does his offspring. There is no bragging about stuff here since the goals are different. A gamedog doesn't have the strongest bite, kangals and Cao's and presa's do. But they are the best fighters and kill any gsd any day. Gsd is a good guard dog though unless it's a kennel club gsd

Anyway, in a ring, the game Pit has an advantage because that's a natural environment for them, where a GSD and/or alot of livestock guard dogs it's very confining, and want out, so wont perform as well. Now, if it's on a farm defending it's flock, thats where the tables turn and the sheepdog has edge
@1sowild you need to look up some videos of the Kurdish Kangal dog. As much as I love the GSD, these kangals make shepherds look like a beagle. Kangal's have to be the ultimate guard and protection dog without a doubt. Just imagine seeing a cop show up with one of them, the bad guy has zero chance of walking away unhurt, if he walks away at all.
@alderaforall I know all about the Kangal's and like them alot! They are powerful, awesome protectors and guardians! I still wouldnt call them the ultimate though because they lack certain qualities the GSD has over them. Yes, Kangals are bigger and stronger, but the German shepherd has the edge in agility, speed, endurance, and above all- intelligence, all wich are crucial factors for guard work, and especially police work. The German shepherd is just amazingly well rounded.
@alderaforall the Turkish army tried using Kangal as a guard/attack dog but the Kangal just like the CO , CAO and other LGD breed's just aren't trainable like GSD and Malinois ect. and will do thing's their own way or not at all , they're to independent of mind to be used as a police or military dog they are natural guard's that make up their own minds that will only do as told if they see a point to it :)

I had the same thing happen once, but with three dogs.....a pit, my GSD, and an unusually large Lab. They all held their own, growling like these guys do, till the object of their attention--one of those $18 fabric frisbies--ripped into two, and finally three pieces, with the pit happening to get the part that had the plastic tube that goes inside the outside edge. But they all seemed happy with what they got. :)
It is the solid and muscular body that makes the gsd such a fine dog. My gsd is 1,5 years old and very strong. He loves to carry the most impossible things.
I have to agree, most people think pit bulls are much stronger but I can hold huge muscular pits(mastiff in there lines) without being dragged. I have met a huge Male German Shepherd who pulled me about 7 feet before I could get my footing. I have a German Shepherd/lab mix right now, and he has a slim look to him but he is strong!
@magicalcrazyness Yeah, they have a lot of power in their shoulders and legs. When my dog pulls (thank god rarely) it's impossible for me to stay still and I have to use two hands. With my cousin's pitbull I can hold the leash with one hand easily. Even if the dog is pulling I don't get dragged.
Oh, I know. When I was younger I didn't really know that much about dogs so when I learned how strong German Shepherds are I was amazed. I'm thinking about weight training my boy, luckily I have been building his stamina already from a young age.

The branches are either broken or completely torn up when we leave. This exercise will make his shoulders and legs much more powerful, because while on the ground and having a branch in his mouth, he has to add power to pull and also to make sure he doesn't lose grip on the branch.

I have a pit of the old school variety that is the best dog I have ever had. I have had pits, dobermans and rottweilers but would also like to has a well bred GSD some day. I've had 5 sheppies and none of them EVER tried to bite anyone in the family. That includes my daughter who used to crawl into their beds with them. Once they know and love you they will protect you till the end. I suggest training for your dog to let him know YOU are the pack leader. :)

Plus, aside from being used as police dogs, they were used to defend sheep from predators such as wolves and mountain lions, and do it successfully! The combo of raw power, speed, agility, intelligence, and drive make the German shepherd the best guard dog!

@makiaveliable German shepherds dont look for a fight, but if one comes to them, they finish it! Yea, i hear all the time about Pitbull's being a fighting dog, bla bla, bla, but German shepherds were bred to defend and herd sheep from predators that would eat a Pitbull.I know, i have farmland that my German shepherd protects.. my neighbors Pitbull made the mistake of coming on the land, and my German shepherd dominated it. Lucky for the Pit, i called my dog GSD off of it!

German shepherds are much more impressive to me than Pits. I like and respect Pits, but German shepherds were bred for and capable livestock guardian dogs protecting sheep from wolves and occasionally bears! Everybody has there opinion whats best, but i will always pick German shepherds!

If only a small majority of GSD's in general can take on a Wolf then why would you trust the entire breed to take on Wolves.
If i was a farmer with livestock I would notp ut my livestock on the line by buying a GSD. I would buy a proper LGD that is larger, stronger and more well adapted to fighting Wolves. Not a breed that was bred for all-round work.

I love both pit´s and shepherd´s and have had dogs my entire 35 year old life, no matter what breed they are truly a mans best friend and that is not only a saying but there is truth to it as well. I don´t care how loyal your best friend is, a good dog is beyond that, period!! They would truly do anything for their owner, no 2:d thoughts at all in a serious situation.

When i say Bull Terrier i mean the three, APBT, AMstaff and the SBT. Anydog can be trained to do whatever you want them to do, some make that training easier than others.
I can honestly say i wld have no worries owning a well bred, fit, athletic APBT. Here in AUS there r that many staff/Staff X dogs that need rehoming, people buy them because they do have that menacing look.(i love their faces mind you) then they work out they a too nice of a dog and not the vicious 1 they thought it wld b

just my experiences anyways, each dog is different, im just happy they havent seriously had a go at each other because i love my GSD and wouldnt want anything to ever happen to him.
So i could imagine an APBT/Amstaff wld be on a similar level to the SBT if not higher

great dog also, not as willing to meet new people like the staffy, i mean he is friendly but not to the extent of the stafford. on the other hand love meeting new dogs all the time.
When the two play around they do this for hours on end, i dont know where they find the energy. I will say this, when the staff has decided he wants to be dominant, my GSD tries but gets taken down every time without fail.

anyone advocating dog fighting needs to have a good hard look at themselves.
My parents have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier the smaller variety often referred to the the English Staffordshire terrier but in fact they are simply the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He weighs 17kg and stands a mere 38cm tall absolutely fantastic dog and a pleasure to be around.
I own a GSD, he has massive drive to chase wild animals in the bush, rabbits, kangaroos etc... He is 30kg and stands 63cm high.

I know it's just for entertainment, but considering the youtube comments maybe you should make a video of a real pitbull vs a real gsd, instead of a fat cur amstaff vs a baby gsd. Most of the people commenting on here are gsd fanciers, sorry to say that anything from a redboy to an eli bred apbt would destroy any gsd. @mhrreplicacarbon Finally. Someone on here with some actual knowledge. The only advantage GSD's have is their weight, they are heavier than pit bulls. But pit bulls in general are around the same strong yet faster, have better fighting skills, shake their head when gripping, have floppy ears etc. GSD fanciers are just mindless fanboys. Pit bulls are made for fighting.
GSD's are not as strong as they used to be, since they have been bred into family dogs. They used to be able to kill wolves.

I have nothing against Pits, but people who own them alot of times try and say there jaws are so strong,, the thing is, yes, they are strong because of the fighting history, but German shepherds were bred to not only defend people, but to defend sheep from predators, German shepherds have one of the strongest bites of all dogs, and are the ultimate guard and protection dogs!

@1sowild you have to understand one thing, pit's might not have the strongest jaw, but in a fight it's not all about bite. pit's would never withdraw from the fight, they are more energetic, agile, bloodthirsty. in a fight, if german shepherd receive some bites, he will try to avoid further fight and to runaway if he sees that he can't dominate the fight, and on the other side pit will fight to the death.
point is, 9 times out of 10, pit would kill German shepherd easily.

@1sowild GS are not much bigger and heavier than apbt/ast , without their coat they are medium-sized dogs - for example my amstaff is 61lb and 18.5".
I'm very realistic and I don't want to argue with you - I admit - GSs are better police dogs, easier to train, better territory guards, great all-round dog and it is well-known. But on the other side, pits are more affectionate and loving, extremely loyal, and much stronger without a shadow of a doubt.

Both are loyal loving dogs that are protective of there owners.

Rapid Roy killed a timberwolf while he was chained on his spot, and Chinaman snapped bones like twigs and so does his offspring. There is no bragging about stuff here since the goals are different. A gamedog doesn't have the strongest bite, kangals and Cao's and presa's do. But they are the best fighters and kill any gsd any day. Gsd is a good guard dog though unless it's a kennel club gsd

Anyway, in a ring, the game Pit has an advantage because that's a natural environment for them, where a GSD and/or alot of livestock guard dogs it's very confining, and want out, so wont perform as well. Now, if it's on a farm defending it's flock, thats where the tables turn and the sheepdog has edge

@1sowild you need to look up some videos of the Kurdish Kangal dog. As much as I love the GSD, these kangals make shepherds look like a beagle. Kangal's have to be the ultimate guard and protection dog without a doubt. Just imagine seeing a cop show up with one of them, the bad guy has zero chance of walking away unhurt, if he walks away at all.

I still wouldnt call them the ultimate though because they lack certain qualities the GSD has over them. Yes, Kangals are bigger and stronger, but the German shepherd has the edge in agility, speed, endurance, and above all- intelligence, all wich are crucial factors for guard work, and especially police work. The German shepherd is just amazingly well rounded.

@alderaforall the Turkish army tried using Kangal as a guard/attack dog but the Kangal just like the CO , CAO and other LGD breed's just aren't trainable like GSD and Malinois ect. and will do thing's their own way or not at all , they're to independent of mind to be used as a police or military dog they are natural guard's that make up their own minds that will only do as told if they see a point to it :)

I had the same thing happen once, but with three dogs.....a pit, my GSD, and an unusually large Lab. They all held their own, growling like these guys do, till the object of their attention--one of those $18 fabric frisbies--ripped into two, and finally three pieces, with the pit happening to get the part that had the plastic tube that goes inside the outside edge. But they all seemed happy with what they got. :)

I have to agree, most people think pit bulls are much stronger but I can hold huge muscular pits(mastiff in there lines) without being dragged. I have met a huge Male German Shepherd who pulled me about 7 feet before I could get my footing. I have a German Shepherd/lab mix right now, and he has a slim look to him but he is strong!

@magicalcrazyness Yeah, they have a lot of power in their shoulders and legs. When my dog pulls (thank god rarely) it's impossible for me to stay still and I have to use two hands. With my cousin's pitbull I can hold the leash with one hand easily. Even if the dog is pulling I don't get dragged.

@magicalcrazyness Yeah. I take long walks with my dog and go to some spots in the woods where he can jump and pull down thick branches. It's amazing how long he can keep this up! The branches are either broken or completely torn up when we leave. This exercise will make his shoulders and legs much more powerful, because while on the ground and having a branch in his mouth, he has to add power to pull and also to make sure he doesn't lose grip on the branch.

I have a pit of the old school variety that is the best dog I have ever had. I have had pits, dobermans and rottweilers but would also like to has a well bred GSD some day. They are beautiful animals.

I've had 5 sheppies and none of them EVER tried to bite anyone in the family. That includes my daughter who used to crawl into their beds with them. Once they know and love you they will protect you till the end. I suggest training for your dog to let him know YOU are the pack leader. :)

There are many "skill sets" that both breeds have....the "discussion/argument" about bite...or strength....or aggressiveness....or toughness are all mute as there is no discerning difference that matters......but......and here is the deal.....my German Shepherd will "outsmart" your Pit bull every time! (Brawn without brains is just brawn....brawn WITH brains is POWER!)

People think they're so badass because the pitbulls teeth lock and also the fact that they are natural born fighters. However, German Shepherds have a stronger bite.

For sure popeye, Pits are strong, no doubt, however, the German shepherd is a dog in a class of its own; it was bred and developed to be the ultimate guard and attack dog, with the intelligence of how to be gentle with children! Plus, aside from being used as police dogs, they were used to defend sheep from predators such as wolves and mountain lions, and do it successfully! The combo of raw power, speed, agility, intelligence, and drive make the German shepherd the best guard dog!
