@Zappafan1980 dude i wish, i tried looking up videos, and everything and just cant find it, you can find photos though on flickr, but yea, its funny because this place called, JAMMIN java, is really a SMALL venue and local scene, and for this mofo, greg howe, to come here, which if you look at his tours, are pretty much all over the world, it was a HAD TO GO type event, and i just thought it was AMAZING to see him, it was sooo low key, if only people knew how bad ass this guy is
@Zappafan1980 yea they are really good, but a little to soft for my tastes, thats why i like greg's style, hes got that vahallan rocky type kind of shit
dennis is a very good drummer , keeps his time and rhythm even though he seems to be going into another direction as the rest of the band is playing , meaning like he plays into a solo in the song , but i guess thats what fusion is about .
somone said jam like, that....people do know these are arrangements? actual songs, they're not just jamming....first lessons if you want to learn to play like this :P
I am late to this party, but good to be familiar with these players. Each player sounds so well rehearsed, but the music has a very open, free feel to it. Also love the sustain of the guitar. This is great stuff. Thank you jesusmqp for posting this and other Greg Howe clips!

yes, this was the tour for the tetsuo sakurai's album: gentle hearts, which was recorded with the same line up. you can also find some songs of this tour on the greg howe's album: extraction, which also has dennis chambers on the drums, but howe himself on keyboards and victor wooten on bass
@yhtomitalmighty during this tour/dvd and this video it was a fodera bass, an emperor model i think, during the time of the album recording he was still using his signature yamaha trb, or at least that was the bass he holds on the album cover.
nowadays he keep using fodera basses along with some vintage fenders
boy i love this video! they are all GREAT, but imagine this....a trumpet, or tenor sax instead of the lead guitar! or maybe not instead, i wouldnt want it to lose that fusion vibe... so maybe trumpet/or sax takes befor the drum solo, and guitar takes after and outtro....man this song goes hard..
@mvialva lol well thats the point of fusion guitar, if you could sum up how a guitarist plays fusion, you can pretty much say it takes place of a brass instrument.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that drum solo didnt fit in... i think its a pretty thing to watch and interresting to hear... but i think that a more feeling groove kind of solo would fit like a glove...

@washington1 he's probably not counting this. Dennis is just sick like that. But what's more amazing to me is that I've never heard band hold on to the groove like this while the drummer is playing this kind of solo! Pretty sick.
Also...you can get the live album version of this DVD...however i just ripped myself a copy from the DVD (The live version's solos are way more insane than the CDs!)

These guys are awesome and I love them, but to answer your question "Who can hope to achieve this?", I'm gonna direct you to the Chick Corea Elektric Band with Dave Weckl on drums and John Patitucci on bass, and then to the
Bill Connors Trio, who had Dave Weckl on drums as well and an amazing Tom Kennedy on bass.
