This makes doctors look heartless. They are not. Most will tell you what they are doing before they do it, will ask your permission, acknowledge your personhood. Many are gentle, kind. On TV in and in movies this is the most common portrayal of doctors. I have a doctor and a nurse in my family. I've know doctors all my life. These types of portrayals are dishonest and unfair.

We use fragments o this film to teach how inhuman a doctor can be. I am a mexican family physician at Guadalajara Mexico. This an example o disease centred medicine as opposite to patient centred medicine. Another important teaching es narrative medicine, the importance of life story each person has.

Jason was kinda being over smart, though other residents knew the answers he just wouldn't let others speak out of his insecurities against them. I can't believe he is appreciated for that i would have taught him a lesson there.

I'm studying medicine. After all I'm seeing at the hospital I don't want to be a doctor anymore. I thought I could help, but I can do nothing. I won't change nothing and it'll be as cold and inhuman as it shows in this movie.

Hugh Laurie's daughter?!!! I had no idea, thank you so much for telling me! That is very funny and gives a whole new dimension to this! When I said she was American I wasn't actually watching/listening and hadn't seen that part of the film for a while, and I just remembered it differently for some reason. When I rewatched it I remembered my comment and was so ashamed, lol!

THANK YOU so much for uploading! This movie presents the verity of humanity: We are bound to mortality. As for Professor Bearing, her mind has, to a magnanimous extent, contributed to her department and discipline. It took a lot of character for her to do what she did. What saddens me is the fact that she had to undergo such belligerent treatment. But it was needed. She learned compassion for her fellow human beings.
