  • eva's grupetto at :16 seconds took my breath away!

  • Less than Three, jgkovac.

    Less than Three

    <3

    <3

  • @Analiketika411

i don't know what that means, but thanks

  • @jgkovac its supposed to be a heart

so people use the "less than" sign, which is this: <

and then they use the 3, so its like this: <3

    less than three :)

what i mean by less than three is basically, i love the video ;)

  • @jgkovac It's a heart lying on its side, looking like the mathematical expression "less than 3"; you've apparently bowled analetika's heart over.

  • @therealjoebloggs

    oh wow, thanks

  • If a violin can cry, so can I

  • @weepingboy3

    very poetically said, thanks

  • Very nicely done.

  • @bubthunder

    thanks

  • Liked it alot

  • Magnificent! Melancholy, Celtic soul-searching melody.

  • @bilmar1966

    thanks very much

  • Really well done, and not overdone at all.

    Truly beautiful...

  • @ConcreteHarpist

    thanks a bunch

  • very nice. I hope you don't mind me sharing this with my FaceBook friends. I have performed this song many times and I think it has room for many interpratations, though yours is perhaps a bit overdone. but: nevermind, it is a very nice rendition and suited my mood well this sad evening.

  • @grandkadolz

    thanks

  • this is very nice but you do need to smile!

  • @violinbluegrass

    thanks

  • @violinbluegrass

You don't really need to smile for this piece.

  • @violinbluegrass "Smile"! Ken Burns wouldn't have used it as theme music for his Civil War series if the tune were to evoke smiles. The Ashokan Farewell sets the mood for four years of sadness in American history. Played as Sullivan Ballou's letter to his soon-to-be widow is read, the Ashokan Farewell creates tears. This is a melancholy Celtic melody, akin to Danny Boy, Kathleen Mavourneen, and Loch Lomond.

  • @bilmar1966

thanks for such a poetic posting

  • There is a clip somewhere of Jay Unger himself and his lovely wife playing this. I prefer your version :) (Sorry Jay).

  • @jdgrahamo

    thanks for making our day

  • I love this tune - we play it in our local fiddle group (The Badenoch Fiddlers). Lovely stuff and so beautifully played here on fiddle and harp :) Tapadh leibh (thank you).

    Ruiseart.

  • @ruiseartalcorn

    thank you, my friemd

  • i love this piece (: i play it frequently for a little pick-me-up (: but quick question: what is her score?? she's not playing 4/4 because it's a little rushed. i have it in 4/4 and it doesn't sound as uplifting as the way she plays it ): im just curious, as i would love to play this tempo!

    great job guys!! (:

  • @sammylov3smusic

thanks.I don't know how to answer this, as we did this by ear on the spur of the moment

  • @sammylov3smusic

This piece is actually a waltz. If you listen, you can hear the steady three four, which drags at the end of certain phrases. Who publishes the music you play from?

  • @sammylov3smusic

  • @sammylov3smusic this is a waltz, three beat.

  • I'm serious. I mean WOW U GUYS R GREAT.

  • @gto6L

  • @FREEASTHESTARS

no question, a true classic. thanks

  • Nice work....great music...outstanding!

  • @TheRpage

  • AlldAlli is a jerk. This was a beautiful version of this song.

  • @jtafaro

    thanks

  • fuck the nine dislikes! UP RATE THIS BABY LIKE HELL!

  • @corleanofmaiev

    gracias

  • *cries*

  • @corleanofmaiev

    thanks

  • This is why you never tune by ear.

Very foolish mistake, you think you're the best and try to do it.

Which is why you rushed and were out of tune the whole time.

  • @AildAlli

    thanks

  • @AildAlli I don't think it's out of tune, the violin is just playing louder than the harp, so it seems out of tune. He never said he was the best, you just said it yourself. If you think he's not good at it, why don't you do it yourself, huh? Then you'll see how hard it can be.

  • @Ryuurin3435 I can and always do better than this, that's why i said what i said.

    Lol, moron.

  • @AildAlli Go ahead and prove it, then. Say whatever you wish, nobody is going to believe you unless you can prove it. You don't even upload videos, it's hard to believe you can even play a harp. I'll take back what I said if you can prove that you can play the harp and violin just as well as the people in the video.

  • @Ryuurin3435 Thanks for stalking my channel, kiddo.

And stop taking things out of context, I was refering to the violin. Stop lying to yourself, lmao.

  • @AildAlli I wasn't stalking you, I was checking out if you could play an instrument. Get over yourself. If you were referring to the violin, why didn't you say so? Stupid.

  • @Ryuurin3435 I thought common sense would lead you into that, guess i was wrong.

And just because I don't post up videos doesn't mean i can't play an instrument lol.

They're all on my other youtube account.

  • @AildAlli No proof yet? I'm not surprised.

  • @Ryuurin3435 Nothing to prove to you at all, kiddo.

You can try to find my alternate Youtube account if you're that obsessed, but that's on you.

  • @AildAlli What a lie. Now that you've said it, I'd rather not go look for it. Thanks though.

  • @Ryuurin3435 Stop replying, having to hear this shitty cover over and over is getting very annoying, like you.

  • @AildAlli Geez, alright, alright, you're such a troll.

  • @Ryuurin3435 Yawn. Well, You've been entretaining for a few days.

    Hm. Next.

  • @AildAlli Do you mean "entertaining"? Fail. :P

  • @Ryuurin3435 Entre, Centre, Colour, Honour, etc.

We can do this for hours, you fail my good sir.

  • @AildAlli Can't even handle a joke, eh? And yeah, I really don't mind doing this, it only takes a minute off my time.

  • @Ryuurin3435 Right, act like you were joking so you don't appear as stupid as you really are.

  • Comment removed

  • @AildAlli You know, I take back what I said about not minding commenting, because I'm getting tired of some troll like you. Let's just call it a truce. And calling someone an insult doesn't give you the upper hand, it just shows what kind of person you are.

  • @Ryuurin3435 'Cause you know I was right.

  • i like it a lot............

  • @anterdecasa

    gracias

  • this song was played at my grandfather's funeral when i was 14, i didn't understand then it was his favorite song to play.. but i understand

  • @antivideo2

thank you, it is a beautiful tune, written rather recently

  • Very sweet and beautiful

  • @thomasojii31

    thanks very much

  • This was my Father's favorite tune. You did a wonderful job.

  • @canthidefromthetruth

    thank you

  • You play it too fast, it should be a slow melodic peice which really touches the listener when they hear it. I feel if you slowed so we could feel the depth within the song then this would be a very good cover.

  • @TheHerbyherb

    thanks for listening

  • How beautiful. I would love to record/buy this version for my mum's funeral. Am I able to do this please?

  • thanks, i am touched , it exists only here, but you may download it if you know how and use for your Mom's funeral .

  • Such a wonderful tune, Great job. The following is an excerpt by Jay Ungar regarding this tune:

I composed Ashokan Farewell in 1982 shortly after our Fiddle & Dance Camps had come to an end for the season. I was feeling a great sense of loss and longing for the music, the dancing and the community of people that had developed at Ashokan that summer. The transition from living at a secluded woodland camp with a small group of people who needed little excuse to celebrate the joy of living,

  • That was really slick!! I play this song on my violin also, but not with a harp player!! The harp adds a lot and makes it sound a lot cooler I think!
