  • HOLY SHIT!!! ITS MORPH!!!

  • where do u leared that and in what school??

  • Title of this video is misleading - "Learn to..." implies you could learn from this but with no sound and time lapsed its virtually impossible.

  • @clareswift604

once upon a time it led to a full blown tutorial... newtek dropped support for this feature in LightWave, so I dropped the tutorials.

  • Looks like this video is showing IKBooster though, and Lightwave 10 still supports IKBooster, or at least it's still fully functional. I use it all the time.

  • @CapnDingo all true, I still do my IKB in 8.3 though - better performance.

  • Very nice.

  • lolka

  • Cool :)

  • DUDE what was the spacing between keyframes

  • Oh my god... Awesome

  • yourt dick looks like a black mans

    with aidz

  • 0:26 haa

  • wow the orange guy is the definition of a puppet.

  • free?

  • wat is this and wer can i dwnld , is ti free

  • @TombRaiderQuests DUDE LEARN TO SPELL ....geezzz

  • what program is this

  • @mrlolburgere blender

  • @freeScribblenauts WRONG!

  • @mrlolburgerz I would guess since it says LightWave in the title it takes away most of the mystery.

  • where do u download it plz tell me

  • @kurad112 blender

  • nice :)

  • lol this is basically pivot but with color

  • @MichaelkinneyPRODZ lol not even close

  • @MichaelkinneyPRODZ not at all

  • he's naked....and BALD!eeeeeewwwwwww!!!

  • That walkcycle is awesome xD

  • Repeat 0:53 a lot of times XD!

  • sigh.....bring back hand drawn animation....

    (anyway, nice work...... really.)

  • Haters gonna hate.

  • which software are you using in this video ?

  • How did u get the character?

  • I forgot the name of that guy...

  • i went 2 the download page and nothing was there

  • how do u download it?

  • The method shown here does not allow advanced interpolations - that's really the point of the video. If you let the computer take control of in-betweens - it will always get it "wrong", mathematically correct - but artistically wrong. This fact doesn't stop programmers endlessly trying to get it right, and there are soem pretty good results - but they are barking up the wrong tree, in my opinion =)

  • Oh, I'm not saying you have no responsibility to the in-betweens. Of course you do, especially if you intend to make the transitions work exactly as you want. What I'm saying is that the position will actually move from one position to the next, regardless of how many in-betweens you use, rather than relying so heavily on the persistence of vision phenomenon.

  • ah yeah - you don't have to start every drawing from scratch - a lot less labour intensive in that regard.

Not sure I follow on the persistence of vision thing though? It's 24 poses / renders / frames per second, isn't that the same principle as cel animation?

  • Certainly, but it's not something that has to be kept in mind throughout the entire process. In cell animation, every in-between you do must be composed of the near-exact intermediate landmarks between the extreme and the next position in order to maintain a smooth movement. In 3D software like this, the motion automatically passes between the intermediate positions. So you're only left to worry about timing and positioning of the extremes. Persistence of vision is relatively automatic in 3D.

  • hmmm... that's generally true, but not in the example above. the in-betweens above are fully posed and none of those poses pass through intermediate positions, they're almost all off position and the timing / spacing is actually pushed beyond extremes and even broken out of motion and broken joints in some places. But this does happen to be a very extreme example. Certainly not something I'd be capable of developing myself! (It's a copy of a Milt Kahl walk)

  • Really? I thought that was an automatic feature of all 3D animation software. Hm.

Milt Kahl? You mean Milt Kahl of Disney'd 9 Old Men? Yeah, I can't think of any better example to follow. lol He was one of the pioneers of modern animation. But didn't he die in the 80s? So, I take it that you posed this model by one of his walk cycle sheets?

Ever heard of Richard Williams? He was behind "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" The man is a genius. I'm dying to get his DVD series. Expensive, but worth it.

  • It is a feature of 3D animation software, it's quite hard to over-ride it, because the tendency is to over rely on it, or not even notice. I was thinking about persistence of vision too... I think you're right because I have never considered it before - the closest I've gotten to thinking about it is working out how much motion-blur works best... but never before while 'animating'.

Indeed the walk is from Richard Williams' book. I like Williams... but I prefer PES ;D

  • Is It Free?

  • I'm amazed at how the it calculates/interpolate movements between key-frames. It's incredible.

I imagine the algorithms that go into these animating programs are quite intense.

  • MORPH IS BACK!

  • is Lightwave 3d free? or is there a free version/trail?

  • Good old technology. You gotta love how 3D animation accommodates for in-betweens.

  • not in this video!

  • lol!!!

  • lol its morph

  • lol 0:26

  • @ElboNoodel hahahahhahahahahhahhahahhahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahhahhHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • ITS A WALKING TURD MAN!!!!

  • say word? what kind of program is this? cuz it looks similar to 3DS Max 9 to me lol

  • It's Blender, a free program that happens to be one of the most powerful 3D modelers around.

  • no actually its 3Ds max. 2010 lol.

  • retard its lightwave 3D

  • no need to call me retard lol

  • sorry..im just pissed i dnt know how to move body parts in lightwave

  • oh really? i've heard about Blender but, never get the chance to use it. this is the software what gamers and movie designers use?

  • Lightwave 3D it's in the title

  • yea its been used in many films, tv series, commercials and games, pretty much everything.

  • hey that is really nice work, I'm learning this program in class, I can model but not that good.. i have a question, what tool did u use to add the points like a line.. and what was that you used at the end, that looked like you were air brushing with like red paint.. what is that for?

  • hey, where can i get models for 3d max studio 2009?

  • 0:29

  • how do u download itz???

  • the animation is really good :)

  • Do You want some Fruit with that Bowl Morph !!??

  • Hes nose looks like a dick...

  • your grammar looks like a dick

  • I REALLY wish I could favorite this comment.

  • lol

  • XD lool

  • @quechus13 i think thats google translate

  • and you would be the one to notice it too.

  • good story bro.

  • i cant download it. stupid thing wants me to download it as a PDF file

  • Hi

I am looking for an animator to create animation for something I have invented. Please let me know how much you charge and related details, that is if you're interested.

    Thanks,

    from Sydney, Australia

  • I live in Sydney too =D

  • very useful. Thanks

  • wahahahah morph rocks :)

nice model and thats a damn fine bone rig.

have to admit although i love lightwave i recon the little guy looks better in plastecine...

    WHERE'S CHAZ :)

  • thank you wery much

  • Great animation.

  • It looks like morph. Cool it is

  • The program is called "LightWave" It's in the title...

  • How can such creasione aser please help me?

  • The programme is LightWave 3D - check the 'more info' box at the top-right for details

  • hey how do u get that program and hake the guy walk plz tell me

  • 3d max 8 or 9 :)

  • wot is the program so i can use it 2 animate

  • i kno, rit? ALITTLEHELP!!!

  • what is the program's name?:D

  • what type of game or program is this, how do i use it???

  • LOL @ 0.00-0.07!!

  • I need help finding it and some other basic things can you help me please

  • miorph?

  • this looks like,...

this is quite similar to the 3ds max

    animation programme...

  • no sound?

  • is this a custom rig ? because is awesome

  • What pag download free?

  • will you have to make that person? or is it already given/? you will jus have to move its body?

  • omg

sooo much for a walk-i wanna do those things bu t i`m questioning my patience-sigh

  • HOW? i see that you use some kind of helper, that makes the charcarter move really free,

    you are not using ik's????

  • hey cool man you made their but i seen description were to download it im looking on site now but all their is are tutorials on it and i dont no were to go to get to download it help!

  • What is LightWave please?

  • can you please make a tutorial on how you got that character pleassse!

  • ah ok in lightwave nvm

  • NO! you are insane!

  • Thats because they dont have the patience and lack the skillz needed to operate the top end software......It says so on the box.

  • nice animation !! I can't believe people say it's impossible to animate in lightwave it looks very possible to me !!

  • Well... there are some particular techincal setups that are harder to achieve in LW than in the likes of Maya, but of course othe CG apps have there own catalogue of disadvantages too! At the end of the day, a super-complex rig does not equal good animation (the opposite in fact is generally true). After all, there is still very little CG animation to match the charm and appeal of Cel or stop-motion animation.

Overall - LightWave is just another great way to animate!

  • I have been thinking about this and the raves are all almost goes to Maya and 3D Max,.however the japanese use Lightwave...which one should we master or learn actually??

  • for what purpose?

To tell your own stories? Something like LightWave or Blender is a good choice.

To tell someone else's stories... Maya, Max, XSI are widely used in corporate studios.

  • they dont look like thumbs if you know what i mean

  • what program are you using??? i want to animate things.

  • See the Video Title:

Learn to animate a walk cycle tutorial in LightWave - Closov

    It's LightWave, dummy.

  • Very nice walk cycle. So you are using IKboost instead of the usual rig controls like circles and boxes that I usually see?

  • i cant find the place in the website u told..to downlaod the full resulation

  • it's on the 'time-lapse' post just under the embedded youtube version

    it's 1024×768 / 11min. / 80MB

  • Is it inverse or forward kinematics on that ???

  • inverse for posing - foward for animating.. i.e. Part-Time IK

  • Wow, that rig's really good. Mine usually don't do exactly waht I want them too. =(

  • how do i get the key after the registration at the "lightwave trial newtek europe" page??

  • where can i get the serial number?

  • Amazing, Closov. I´m a Lwaver but I never see these manipulators. Is Messiah? You can move the elbow directly!!! I would like to know what plugin you used to do that.

  • thanks vectorlw,

just IK Boost - a feature added to LightWave for release 8 a few years ago, I think.

  • OH, man! I haven´t tried IKBoost yet. You are right, since V 8. I know ikboost dot com. I must read/watch carefully everything there. Thanks

  • Is it possible to place these animations into a reall film clip? For eksample of yourself, and then place this morph guy next to you when he walks?

  • hi markutang, yep it's very common to do things like that

  • Ok..

    Thank you; )

  • i sux.... i don't even know how to make a animate... how?

  • Aaah closov, i love the way he moves when he walks hehe.. Great job :)

  • thanks macbrutal :)

  • Please tell me, You got those small "Dots" on your character which makes it easy for you to move around your character, how do you do that ? Please make a tutorial

  • Hi macbrutal, please read the 'more info' link to find the tutorials

  • i take a modelling and animation class at my high school and new tek sold us copys for 100 dollars its completely badass and i love this program

  • While it is very wise to become familiar with other 3D programs, LightWave is far from dead.

The software you use is actually pretty irrelevant. A skilled artist can create high quality work with any program. It just depends on the type of workflow he prefers.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAAH...

hey kid... get ur 3d max to make some rocks and balls... let the lightwave for professionals.

    3D max SUCKS!!!

  • where can i download this sofrware?

  • google this: lightwave trial newtek europe

  • Great. Thanks for sharing

  • Put Some Clothes On!

  • Would you be able to do other things with the character? Speaking of which, can you make you own character? Also last question, does it do anything else besides walk/run?

  • yes, yes, and yes!

  • thank you!^^

  • thats really good

but it kinda looks like he's punching someone every time he takes a step lol

  • dude nice lightwave work..... do u kno where u can purchase lightwave at??

  • how did you even make the character?

  • you have to use modelor and then sincronise or send to the Layout

  • that waz dope, keep up tha good work, i just wish i could do that

  • It looks like your going for a very jerky clay animation style. Nice but kinda creepy. If i saw someone walking down the street like that, I'd probably choose the dark alley.

  • That reminds me I need to order that book. One thing I haven't seen much in terms of tutorials is a run cycle, as well as walk / run cycles for quadrapeds and six-legged animals.

Maybe you could get old Morph running for one of your videos, and then make him a dog and a insect friend.

  • well, I wouldn't recommend that book... unless you want to learn walk and run cycles! It is absolutly FULL of them.

Don't know much about quadrupedal motion, I did a gallop recently using Muybridge as reference, and I was *fairly* happy with the result.

  • Cool animation. There's a great walk cycle tutorial on idleworm dot com that describes the different poses and such, and would make a nice companion to this video. I need to check out IK boost, never used it before. Lightwave is one of my favorites.

  • This walk is a rough copy from Richard William's Book 'The Animator's Survival Kit' Page 164. He says he amalgamated some 'can do' walks that Milt Kahl had developed.

  • how long do you think it would take a beginner to make that type of figure?

  • learning how to model characters properly - for a complete beginner - could easily take a couple of months - as would the rigging (putting the controls in and making sure the joints bend properly).

but once you have the hang of it, a character like this can be modeled and rigged in 2 days

  • i have a character modelling tutorial on my other site: puffandlarkin dot com

  • quick question is this program slightly easier than most?someone told me it was easy to get the hang of(the ones if tried are confusing as fugg)

  • A lot of people say they found it is easy to get the hang of - I wans't one, I found it hard at first because I had never done anything like this before.

But i have tried a few similar programmes ones since then, and they seem a lot lot harder to me.

Best thing is to buy or rent some video training, it saves months of learning the hard way.

  • cool well ill try this out when i get older ya see im not very old and dont really wanna spend my $ on videos lol but thanx 4 tha reply -1-

  • I use cinema 4D, ive tried ligtwave and its so damn confusing lol. i wanna use it because its been used in more professional end products, and the effects are amazing :)

  • wouldnt bother me whether I used C4D, LW pencils or clay... so long as you can put a smile on someone's face...

  • Is this sped up? cause if it's not, god damn takes me like half an hour to do just half a ok looking step. Im really new to LW but sorta familiar with IK booster cause i been learning in LW 9.

  • Yes, double speed in order to fit in youtube's 10 min limit, also cos watching someone animate can be a boring as watching paint dry!

  • is that the guy from morph or what ever its calld?

    (but i love it)

  • yup, the character's name was Morph, probably the 'show' would have been called Morph too. Originally part of Tony Hart's Art show on BBC. I think one of the guys who made Morph went on to develope Aardman animation, or had already started it. Dunno much about the history or the people really, just that this guy was the first time I had seen animation that wasn't cartoons, and I've loved it ever since :)

  • Hi 3Deity, its IK Boost, part of LightWave since Version 8.0 there's also a website by the same name for more info (link in video description)

  • What animation plugin are you using for the rigging and animation?
