Hey captnduck I built a straight wall blocking off the entrance of my Fortress, do I need to build ramps or stairs for my dwarfs to be able to climb them so they can shoot down on those Damn Elves or do they just climb up themselves. One more thing if I build a floor tile next to a wall that essentially does nothing I mean its not necessary to have floor tiles for dwarfs to stand on so they can shoot out of fortifications?

I like how tha game makes you hate elves. It makes sense since dwarfs always hate elves and as a dwarven leader you should hate them too :)

lol elves are cool when they are not the Dwarf Fortress versions. For DF, I just capture them when I can and use them to fight in my arena against whatever else I capture. The only difference between mine and duck's is that I don't take weapons and stuff if I plan to use something in my arena.

I figured out how to trade and assign brokers. I began trading with the elves, i marked all the food, ammo, weapons, and armor they were selling, and then seized them.. Fuck elves.

So far i've gone an entire year in DF and still have no fucking idea on how to create a broker...

It does - but I like to build what I need and just what I need; but for sake and simplicity, by all means go ahead and only build up/down stairs - it's not like it costs more.

some thing i found out is that elves will sometimes eat the person he just killed. its true take a look in your legends area sometime

i think elves hate it when you make wood because they make lots of wood items...and if you make alot of wood items..you wont want to buy it from them so they wont beable to sell it to you...so now they hate you because you wont buy their wood....

You probably need to tweak some settings and get your fps up, I have mine at 100

I don´t get the defensive walls. Aren´t they 1 tile higher than the ground inside?? Aren´t your crosbow dwarves boxed in. What am i missing here, and i know im missing it.

your missing the fact that he can fortify it, so that the CBOW dwarves can shoot inside the walls.

yes, but there are a couple of things you can do, fortify the walls so you crossbowmen can shoot through the fortifications from inside, or build ramps/stairs up on the inside so they can get on top of the wall and shoot down.

Wait wait. You can build floors to go on top of a wall? That's what they're for?

Nah walls come complete with floors on the upper level. You can build floors above fortifications though for example.

You can build floors to cover the square of empty space inside of walls though, so effectively they are a roof...which is useful if your marksdwarves in the watchtower hate bad weather...cause I think it is considered 'inside' so the rain won't affect them.

Even if it doesn't though I still make a roof...just because I feel like it should have one...

You Remove the Trading Depot when they've unloaded.
