I've always love the beginning intro of this movie. It's just so powerful! But I think I like Steady as the Beating Drum. This kind is just too short of a song.

@nebbiadellanotte it's definitely 1607. they just celebrated the 400th anniversary in 2007. sooo i'm 99.9% sure it's 1607.

Your teacher is wrong. I don't know any teacher who would say that. The Susan Constant, the Discovery, and the Godspeed, sent by the Virginia Company arrived in Virginia in April 1607. On May 14, 1607, Jamestown (not a town, but an island) was founded. It was a terrible place; the water was brackish and unsafe to drink, the land was unsuitable for crops, and they landed too late to plant them. By 1608, 75% of the settlers had died before supplies could be brought.

We recently were studying the Virginia Company in my history class. Our teacher showed us a painting of the real John Smith. I think I might be scarred for life, along with the rest of my class :( Why couldn't he have been the slim, muscular, blonde man from the movie?!

This movie came out when I was about 4 years old, and the last time I saw the whole thing I was in 7th grade. So I actually understood the lyrics and found out that they actually have some historical background o.O

One thing I don't get about this movie: Why doesn't John Smith have an English accent??
