In 1607, we sailed the open sea. For glory, God, and gold and the Virginia Company! For the New World is like heaven, and we'll all be rich and free! Or so we have been told by the Virginia Company.
I've always love the beginning intro of this movie. It's just so powerful! But I think I like Steady as the Beating Drum. This kind is just too short of a song.

Your teacher is wrong. I don't know any teacher who would say that. The Susan Constant, the Discovery, and the Godspeed, sent by the Virginia Company arrived in Virginia in April 1607. On May 14, 1607, Jamestown (not a town, but an island) was founded. It was a terrible place; the water was brackish and unsafe to drink, the land was unsuitable for crops, and they landed too late to plant them. By 1608, 75% of the settlers had died before supplies could be brought.
We recently were studying the Virginia Company in my history class. Our teacher showed us a painting of the real John Smith. I think I might be scarred for life, along with the rest of my class :( Why couldn't he have been the slim, muscular, blonde man from the movie?!
You blame the westerners for what their ancestors did? That doesn't seem fair. The people you want to blame for THAT have been dead and buried for a long time.
This song really captures the time era this movie was set in, it really brings back memories for me as a little girl...my days of thinking I was Pocahontas
This movie came out when I was about 4 years old, and the last time I saw the whole thing I was in 7th grade. So I actually understood the lyrics and found out that they actually have some historical background o.O
One thing I don't get about this movie: Why doesn't John Smith have an English accent??

in 1607 there was no act of union which did not occur until 1709, they have no justified right to parade that flag, for it is the banner of Great Britain, a state not yet existant. note. from a pratt
@IddyB i know exactly what you mean. i noticed that with the aladdin dvd when aladdin sounded so different in a whole new world compared to the vhs version. i kinda wish now that i didn't throw away the vhs version.

Although I have to say, The Hunchback of Notre Dame intro takes the cake.

I love this scene showing England, but I like better the way the song sounds in the movie, this tone is higher and sounds less good.

I know. alot of the songs i've looked up on youtube have been a pitch higher

how do they make the pitch higher? i wanna know.
gent777 2 years ago
Dunno. Weird though. That seems to be a thing with movies. Songs featured in them are at a higher pitch than the original recording.
