  • Did anyone else think the redhead guy @0:54 looks like Dmitriy from Anastasia?

  • In 1607, we sailed the open sea. For glory, God, and gold and the Virginia Company! For the New World is like heaven, and we'll all be rich and free! Or so we have been told by the Virginia Company.

  • wtf, why the hell did you cut the end of the scene? When the ship sails?

  • 0:53, omg it Demetri from Anastasia!

  • I'm from Virginia.

  • I've always love the beginning intro of this movie. It's just so powerful! But I think I like Steady as the Beating Drum. This kind is just too short of a song.

  • In 1607, we sailed the open sea, for glory, God, and gold and the Virginia Company. For the people it's like Heaven, for we'll all be rich and free, or so we have been told by the Virginia Company. So we have been told by the Virginia Companyyy...

I think that's how it goes.

  • @tophat95 thats how it goes but they got the year wrong it was 1608 our teacher is drilling that into our head

  • @nebbiadellanotte it's definitely 1607. they just celebrated the 400th anniversary in 2007. sooo i'm 99.9% sure it's 1607.

  • @nebbiadellanotte

Your teacher is wrong. I don't know any teacher who would say that. The Susan Constant, the Discovery, and the Godspeed, sent by the Virginia Company arrived in Virginia in April 1607. On May 14, 1607, Jamestown (not a town, but an island) was founded. It was a terrible place; the water was brackish and unsafe to drink, the land was unsuitable for crops, and they landed too late to plant them. By 1608, 75% of the settlers had died before supplies could be brought.

  • @monny287 i notticed that after i posted it sorry i made a mistake

  • I'm studying US History this year and re-learning about the original 13 colonies makes me want to watch this movie again~

  • We recently were studying the Virginia Company in my history class. Our teacher showed us a painting of the real John Smith. I think I might be scarred for life, along with the rest of my class :( Why couldn't he have been the slim, muscular, blonde man from the movie?!

  • There's gotta be more than that. Governor Ratcliffe shows up and everyone on the ship where about to leave.

  • THIS SONG MAKES ME WANT TO BREAK DANCE

  • @psyenigma

You blame the westerners for what their ancestors did? That doesn't seem fair. The people you want to blame for THAT have been dead and buried for a long time.

  • Your right. i retract that comment

  • I played it in an orchestra along with colours of the wind... it was epic to play!

  • Hehehe, I completely forgot about this song. XD How sad is that, even though I watched it like five million times as a kid....

  • omg, me too! I just love the melody, but when I came across this vid, I didn't even remember the song till I heard it :D

  • haha me to!! ^_^

  • Chills. <3

  • Ohhh...

    I Love It... :)

  • I love this song

  • I love this song...if only it was a little longer. ^_^

  • wow, the quality in this vid is so good ...

    love the song !!!!

  • i prefer the swedish version!

maybe because i am swedish, who knows? x'D

  • Jag är också svensk, men föredrar denna... Dock är den svenska version också skön.

ENG: I'm also a swede, but I prefer this one. But, the Swedish edition is also nice.

  • I was four when I first saw this movie, she was the first Disney Princess I knew~*

  • This song really captures the time era this movie was set in, it really brings back memories for me as a little girl...my days of thinking I was Pocahontas

  • Perfect for Thanksgiving !!! haha.

  • maybe it's no coincidence I stumbled across this today...lol

  • BEST. DISNEY. SONG. EVER.

  • Yeah, it's perfect, I think. The music is fabulous and the song is full of joy and hope. Somehow reminds me Fathoms Below of The Little Mermaid =)

  • This isn`t the full song, you`re missing the whole second half -.-'

  • This movie came out when I was about 4 years old, and the last time I saw the whole thing I was in 7th grade. So I actually understood the lyrics and found out that they actually have some historical background o.O

One thing I don't get about this movie: Why doesn't John Smith have an English accent??

  • When he lands in America he gets an American accent. Doy!

  • *facepalm* OF course!

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • dude this is so awesome!

  • One of the best beginnings in all of Disney movies.

  • agreed, I couldn't get this out of my ehad for weeks, and the way the music matches the views of the new world while everyone departs is great

  • @emwall315 True! This intro is so fun.

Although I have to say, The Hunchback of Notre Dame intro takes the cake.

  • lol

  • I always love the beginning of the movie:D

  • I love this scene showing England, but I like better the way the song sounds in the movie, this tone is higher and sounds less good.

  • I know. alot of the songs i've looked up on youtube have been a pitch higher

  • how do they make the pitch higher? i wanna know.

  • Dunno. Weird though. That seems to be a thing with movies. Songs featured in them are at a higher pitch than the original recording.

  • @IddyB i know exactly what you mean. i noticed that with the aladdin dvd when aladdin sounded so different in a whole new world compared to the vhs version. i kinda wish now that i didn't throw away the vhs version.

  • Please, could you put the original version? the one with lower tone, it sounds much better

  • The real pocahontas was buried in essex? Is that a big town?

  • It is massive believe me lol

  • @essexboi1993 It's a part of London, if I'm not mistaken, and that's among the top 20 in the world in land mass!

  • @pishivee Lol it's not really a town mate :P
