my sis just gave me her useless $1700.00 hp pavilion dv9700 laptop to see if I can fix it. I lay it on an ice pack and can get it to work for about an hour and poof! it's gone. Have they fixed the design flaw? Why replace the motherboard when the new part is still flawed?

Can you apply thermal paste, even if it has thermal pads on it, too? I'm sure the only reason you didn't apply thermal paste is because it has thermal pads...but I don't really like the idea of thermal pads. I prefer paste.
have you put a termal gun to the cpu to actually messure that? i have shims but i havent tooken a messurement with a termal gun. And i have really not noticed a differance with a shim and without a shim. But eh i should see how that is with a termal gun and make a video.. But good suggestion.
Hi There, I Have just purchased a dv9000 of a m8. the problem is it wont turn on, the battery is fine and the light comes on to charge. i just wont turn on. is there any way of fixing this common problem?
how much is a motherboard for dv9925nr ? My motherboard went out. I also saw where not to get a motherboard made in hongkong they are supposed to be cheap and wont be as stable. thanks
I have a dv9000 and am wanting to replace it. the question is if a certain mother board is compatible?
I have a dv9000 ( 439112-001) and there is a dv9000 (444002-001) motherboard that looks eXactly the same... SO willl that work ?? bc i cant find the (439112-001) model anywhere.
I have a DV6010us. And I have a DV 9000. Both are broke. DV9000 has known MB issues and runs too hot, so it does not run for more than 5 minutes. My DV6910 was dropped and the screen no longer works. Can I put the dv6910 mainboard in the dv9000? Thank you.
hey i really need your help, the other day i was at wrk and the power went down at my house and i can't unplug it so the mother board of my dv71245dx got mess up and i don't know how to do now cuz i don't have enough money to buy a new notebook so can u please me.
Unforunately the new Motherboard will fail in the exact same way than the old one, best thing to do with this piece of s.... is to sent it to the trash can and buy an Apple Mcbook.
@mqueirolo eh? I've been working with Macs for 10 years and have seen FAR more heat build-up deaths than I've EVER seen on Windows machines. Apple designs their machines to look pretty, rather than to properly cool their components. The only properly designed computer I've seen from them is the G5 tower. Other than that, I've seen nothing but poorly designed crap.
woow u know a lot about computers ihave one like this and the pad like get's hot and like on the speakers it kinda gets hot too i don't know what to do will it break or die?
nVidia should first recall all the Laptop GPU they have manufactured between 2004-2008 and refund all those people who bought them. After they officially admitted defects in packaging resulting in overheating and malfunctioning nVidia did absolutely nothing for consumers but they announced the shareholders that $200 mil were set aside for claims and warranties...and thats all.
I already joined the Class Action Lawsuit at hxxp://cases.milberg.com/nvidia/#usermessage17a ...replace xx with tt.
Hey i was able to resurrect a HP DV9000 without replacing the motherboard. Not sure if you tried this. If you have one that has the defect where you turn it on and there is no POST. Turn it off and back on really quick and sometimes it will come up. Flash the bios and you'll never have that issue again. Basically the fans get slow over time and the BIOS thinks its a fan failure so it doesn't turn on. Restarting quickly while the fan is running will get you into windows. woot!
@mothymothy Very clever fix. I actually did the same thing.. flashed the bios to version F.3D.. saw the "no post" problem. Powered down then up a second later.. then viola! Screen was magically fine.
I'm going to disassemble the whole unit today.. clean out the heat sinks and lube the cooling fan with Rubachem Slid n Glide silicon lubricant. The stuff is AWESOME. Saves the life of gummed up cooling fans! (No. I'm not paid by Rubachem). heh heh. Been building / repairing PCs for 10 years.
question: my laptop charger got messed up and my father made one all it needed was a new tip it was working good until i saw a spark and it turned off then it wouldnt turn on anymore so is this the mother board or something else?
Try my copper shims instead of a penny/thermal pad for your heatsink. It is a perfect fit and keeps your temps way down! Only $6 for tx1000 and $9 for all other models. Thermal paste is included. Search for "dv2000 copper shim" or "dv9000 copper shim" on ebay.
@sparepartworld Actually, the thermal pads do not provide adequate heat dissipation. HP actually has issued product recalls on a LOT of their laptops due to this issue. They tried to "cut corners" using low quality cheap "thermal pads".. and look where it got them.. now they have to replace thousands of motherboards for absolutely FREE. Wasted man hours and parts.
Do NOT depend on the thermal pads. Use Arctic Silver 5 instead. You'll drop the max temps by at least 10 C..
but even if you use the termal pads it will not get into the groves like termal paste would. Even tho if the thermal heat will still do a good job without the termal paste. I just would rather use the paste. unless your a messy person and can not control the paste or just plain lazy. Id rather fix my custmers cpu with termal paste. This DV9000 is a bit of a pain in the ass to take apart but still easy to me :). But still nice video. 5 stars from me.
You fix an HP laptop by nailing it to a tree and firing a large caliber weapon at it. Or, you can drive over it with your vehicle. Just say no to anything with the HP name/logo on it! FU HP!
because i have a problem with my computer is the same brand hp pavilion dv9000 the problem is the screen is black and just the blue lights are on and turn on and off automatically can you what is the real problem.
The problem is the graphic chip on the mainboard! but it's not possible to repair this chip for a amateur. And for experts it's more rentable to buy a new, cause it's cheaper, as the working hours.
how can i fix my notebook dv9000? i tried to run the hp recovery disk in it but error massage came up. i tried the vista recovery disk it passed most of the step but when it reach the up date step, message said window can`t up date the configuration on my computer
Same here, first time i ever took a laptop to bits, piece of piss!! I only had 4 screws leftover!! I used the heat gun method on the GPU, i removed all plasics warmed the MB in the oven at 210c and then warmed the chip at 300c lyster gun, she works fine now, and all the dust has been removed from the heat sinks. Core temps are down to new. happy i got my £1500 laptop back
Can you tell me why you heated your mainboard? What effect does that have on it? Where did you learn to do that? Also what did you do to the GPU? Surely you mean the CPU or are you referring to the Graphic chip?
There are no real steps, but my suggestion is to add an additonal silicone pad under the GPU. Currently most issues are related to the GPU overheating and the solder balls losing contact. Under close inspection I see that the factory adhesive that is used to position the GPU is insufficient and in most cases not even adhering to the chip-but only looks like it. So the GPU is not actually tacked down.
Another thing I have been doing is replacing the foil under the AMD chip. Removing the damaged foil and cleaning heatsink surface, then cut and paste a 1.5" x1" copper foil. It has better heat transfer properties and will not break/tear the next time it is removed as the foil usually does.
Sell it, buy a Lenovo, DELL, or Toshiba? DV2000, DV6000, DV9000, and Compaq F700 all have some serious issues. I just put another motherboard in my brother inlaws F700 been through two previously...
I was thinking about buying one, but went with something else. Ive came across a couple homebrew fixes while researching it. Seems like some people have luck with applying heat to the gpu. Like kegtapper said i guess the problem is the GPU actually loses contact after being used so many times. Seems like putting some heat to it could fix it.
Curious as I am, I had an old DV Series board that was beyond repair. I heated the nVidia chip and took it off to check the 'balling'. Sure enough as I had suspected. Several balls were absent. not having silvered contacts. Oxidation is the culprit. So at least now I know why they fail so often.
When reflowing, I generally put about 2lb pressure on the chip- (popsickle stick or long wooden swab), not to flatten the solder, but to insure it does not rise higher off the pads.
Lenovo has their issues, as well as Dell and Toshiba. If you see enough of each you begin to recognize a pattern of which companies failures are. The culprit is HannStar the mobo manufacturer not HP per se.
Just today I did a reflow to an Averatec 7100 (AMD/nVidia combo). Same problem as the HP DV series. On the nVidia chip on this model did not have the red high temp hot glue around the GPU. At least that helps some to keep the chip fixed. BTW I also use hot glue-high temp.
Thats true, but I fix way more HP/Compaqs than thos three brands. Im not saying DELL, Toshiba, or Lenovo are THE best. If HP has motherboard problems they need to find a new manufacturer.
In our channel are 3 videos from mainboard disassembly and assembly with the DV6000 and DV9000 from HP. There are only little diferents between this models and the DV2000 series. So if you have a technical ability, you can do it. Only follow the steps in our videos and remember where wich screw was placed.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420. I was removing Vista and Installing XP, during the instalation of the video drivers. All just went black. I tried to reset it and the Bios doest even boot up. It turns on, the lights and screen. But it just say there, doesnt do antyhing. You have any opinion about this? Is there a way to reset the Bios of a laptop motherboard?
Yes you can easily reset the BIOS. The only thing you must do, is to remove the BIOS battery and power on the laptop a few times, than the BIOS was set to factory settings.
Try to start the laptop with a bootable CD/DVD without the HDD. (Ubuntu, Knopixx, Bart PE, ...) If the display stay black, you have definetly a damaged graphics or mainboard.
Just completed this job and I can appreciate now why it costs so much. Took me the best part of SIX HOURS to complete and get it running again. Once fixed the DV9000 is excellent however.
To fix the graphic chip is very hard! I don't approve you to try it. This can only made by experts. And if you already tried it better stop it before there get more damaged.
Buy a new mainboard, or send it to an expert to repair it (better by a new, it's probably cheaper, as to let it repair)
there is a problem with my hp DV9000 laptop, the screen is nearly all black except for the top quarter of the screen will display weird colors and gray areas after a while from reboot the screen will just go completely black. the hard drive light on the lap still lights up so i assume it cant be a hard drive problem. also when i connected my laptop to another monitor and my TV nothing would show up. please help what is wrong with my laptop
I tip on the graphics! Because when the exter monitor shows the defect too, it must be the graphics and not the screen. Big problem by all DV9000, cause the graphics got to hot. Thats a standard defect by this model. The problem: the graphics is on-board, so you have to replace the whole mainboard.
Here's the thing: same happened to my dv9000 hp laptop y had to remove the display to connect an external 19 LCD so I can work normally now, now, how do I know if I order from you a new motherboard so I can use my display again that it wont bring the same problem later? are new motherboards fixed with the graphics problem?
Yes, we can. It's not uploadet because it's only screw out the most screws :) by the dv9000 there only 2 kinds of screws, so it not so dificuld as by other laptops.
I upload it in the next 24h. And write you a comment, when it's done.
well all there is, if you going to try fix it your self is that there is a lot of screws so i reccomend you to separate all the screws and remember were they go.
and dont forget when you put it back togheter just like the guy said do not forget to plug in the cpu fan cooler very important. oh and its going to take a long time to put it back togheter so you need lots of patiance. hope this answers your questions
My HP DV9000 laptop is being repaired as we speak because of the Left Hinge Display. HP left a message yesterday and told me that my motherboard is corrupted and that it would cost me to fix it! Now i'm getting my fixed laptop back with another issue!!
Im curious to know, If I get the motherboard replaced on my HP DV9000, would it interfere with my laptop? Would I have to install another operating system?
When the mainboard become replaced, it must be the same mainboard like before. So there can't be any problems (normally, but the exception proves the rule).
If you install another operating system, it may be that you need to install the mainboard drivers.
How do you mean? there are many ways to plug a sata HDD in your laptop. For Example if your laptop only have 1 intern slot for HDD's you can plug the HDD with a converter (SATA - USB).
Great Video, I came across a site that helps get your videos exposed. They helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first page. If you need any help check them out at tubeviews.(net)

Try to remove the dust from your CPU fan. That was mostly the cause that the Laptop overheating. The Laptop shuting down himself because he want save his spare parts, that nothing become damaged.

If HP has motherboard problems they need to find a new manufacturer.

hi i just posted a video of my dv2127tx with broken graphics chip! can i replace the motherboard like this on my own???
cuteboymimmi 2 years ago
In our channel are 3 videos from mainboard disassembly and assembly with the DV6000 and DV9000 from HP. There are only little diferents between this models and the DV2000 series. So if you have a technical ability, you can do it. Only follow the steps in our videos and remember where wich screw was placed.
But if you not dare to do it, better send it in!

Is there a way to reset the Bios of a laptop motherboard?
morphakun 2 years ago
Yes you can easily reset the BIOS. The only thing you must do, is to remove the BIOS battery and power on the laptop a few times, than the BIOS was set to factory settings.
Try to start the laptop with a bootable CD/DVD without the HDD. (Ubuntu, Knopixx, Bart PE, ...) If the display stay black, you have definetly a damaged graphics or mainboard.

excellent video, very instructive.
Just completed this job and I can appreciate now why it costs so much. Took me the best part of SIX HOURS to complete and get it running again. Once fixed the DV9000 is excellent however.

What gpu do you have? On your mobo
RyenCRamsey 2 years ago
The damaged one is one of the hated AMD/NVidia boeards they ever get overheating.
The Intel mainboads are better and don't get so often damaged.

is the onboard graphic possible to fix or is it complete dead? if not maybe its possible to overheat it again to get the chip back in place
nividia581 2 years ago
To fix the graphic chip is very hard! I don't approve you to try it. This can only made by experts. And if you already tried it better stop it before there get more damaged.
Buy a new mainboard, or send it to an expert to repair it (better by a new, it's probably cheaper, as to let it repair)

there is a problem with my hp DV9000 laptop, the screen is nearly all black except for the top quarter of the screen will display weird colors and gray areas after a while from reboot the screen will just go completely black. the hard drive light on the lap still lights up so i assume it cant be a hard drive problem. also when i connected my laptop to another monitor and my TV nothing would show up. please help what is wrong with my laptop
bladex2056 2 years ago
I tip on the graphics! Because when the exter monitor shows the defect too, it must be the graphics and not the screen. Big problem by all DV9000, cause the graphics got to hot. Thats a standard defect by this model. The problem: the graphics is on-board, so you have to replace the whole mainboard.

your the best thanks a lot! you can look forward to seeing my laptop your way lol =]

Could you please upload a video explaining how can we take out the main board? , cause is very difficult to me.
arespunishers 2 years ago
Yes, we can. It's not uploadet because it's only screw out the most screws :) by the dv9000 there only 2 kinds of screws, so it not so dificuld as by other laptops.
I upload it in the next 24h. And write you a comment, when it's done.

hello!, there is any risk, by replacing my new motherboard that i just bought? i want to do it myself, soi want to be aware of the risk! ty!!
hailander24 2 years ago
The importentst thinks are:
- remember where which screws were
- don't forget to plug in all calbles (NEVER forget the fan!!!)
- make sure that all components assembled
If you follow this, you be on the safe side.
What can happen is, that you mabye gain a damaged mainbord.
If the laptop still have garantie this will be addicted.
To damage somthing else as the mainboard very implausible. Mabye the case...

well all there is, if you going to try fix it your self is that there is a lot of screws so i reccomend you to separate all the screws and remember were they go.
and dont forget when you put it back togheter just like the guy said do not forget to plug in the cpu fan cooler very important. oh and its going to take a long time to put it back togheter so you need lots of patiance. hope this answers your questions

Souulboarder 2 years ago
When the mainboard become replaced, it must be the same mainboard like before. So there can't be any problems (normally, but the exception proves the rule).
If you install another operating system, it may be that you need to install the mainboard drivers.
sparepartworld 2 years ago
That happened to mine but if they call me and tell me that the mother board if broke i will fucking flip because it is fine
Musicinspires117 2 years ago
OMG I'm getting my Hinge replaced right now too! They told me the same thing about my mother board as well. There seems to be a trend going on, huh.

if i had a sata cable is there anyway i can plug it into a laptop without modifying it?
88elliot88 2 years ago
How do you mean? there are many ways to plug a sata HDD in your laptop. For Example if your laptop only have 1 intern slot for HDD's you can plug the HDD with a converter (SATA - USB).

Try to remove the dust from your CPU fan. That was mostly the cause that the Laptop overheating. The Laptop shuting down himself because he want save his spare parts, that nothing become damaged.
