Thank you very much for that good video! Everything was going right. Only i had to take out RAM after i completed my first installation. But then ... it run perfektly.
Damn, I did everything you said. Turned on my pc, no display, only the blue light power button. After that dissasmbled again, did the whole proces over. Now it even won't turn on or charge...
Very helpful, thank you! Upgrade was a breeze. I used a plastic painters spatula to open the case. That way it didn't leave marks on the case and it has very fine edge that allowed for running it along the edge of the case and getting it to open fairly easy.
....however computer will not shut down now. After it seems it's turned off, it will reboot after a ~second. Been working on trying to fix this for hours...no luck. There are some reports about Crucial memory causing this issue on 1005 models. Those affected were able to put things back in normal by reinstalling original memory back in. Not in my case, problem continued with the old memory.
It turns off by pressing and holding power button. Now I log off and then press and hold power to turn off
Good video. Keep it up. Just a couple of comments. First of all, those gloves are not necessary, just use an "earth strap" - those gloves are not antistatic and could build up static themselves, much more than your body could build up !!! Secondly, it is recommendable to try powering up the laptop before reassembling. Finally I wouldn't recommend impatient and careless people to try this upgrade even though it looks fairly simple.
oh, no, I messed up... I wan to do a memory upgrade but didn't work. I put back the original memory but it doesn't work again so I'm screwed. I tested a thousand times to put all the connectors back. when I push the power button turns on a second (without turning the fan on) and then turns off. I want to kill myself...
It works...but be careful. I was fortunate...it is not for the non-nimble fingered like me!!! Pay close attention to the connectors before disconnecting. I also used tweezers on the little screws...it helps.
Thanks for your quick response. By the way, have you tested to see whether you get 6 hours from the 1008HA? I was speaking to a friend who wanted to get this model, but was concerned about the battery life, so do please let me know whether the battery life is good, & in general, is this a good machine to use? Thanks again guys!
I've always wondered how Asus would do the upgrades. From your video, you guys did an excellent job in demonstrating that with a little time & patiences that upgrading a RAM could be done. Interesting to see whether you guys could upgrade the SSD too? Good job! And hope to see more from you soon. By the way, do you know how to upgrade a HP 2140? If so, please let me know. Thanks!
The very first eee pc had an sticker saing that memory upgrade would void warranty. The feedback from consumers were so negative that they gave up the idea.
Now, they create this level of difficulty just to annoy the consumer... Putting a door on the underside would be so easy. Boo to Asus.
1GB is barely acceptable to an XP machine. Put vista or even 7, it'll crawl...
Thanks very much! What a fiddle...just started it up now, so fingers crossed!

Just cut a hole at the bottom vent to access the memory stick. Thats what I'd do

Upgrade complete, just take your time.
2 things I highly recommend,
1. flick the SW2 switch before (google SW2 and 1008ha)
2. disconnect the battery before swapping ram as it comes out very easy.

hi rohitbhosale,
did you've seen the WLAN card, when you was disassembling the 1008ha? If yes, is it harder to exchange it than the Ram?

Noticeable performance improvement!!!
Took about 1-1/2 hours.
Good luck.

Done. Thank you very much. Note: The last keyboard bus has a black clip that slides in and out to lock in the keyboard connection

Thanks for the appreciation. I am afraid, I do not have any experience with HP2140 - however if i come across any, i shall post it too.

Wow I was nervous the entire time. If you went through all that work to upgrade it you should have put in a solid state drive at the same time.

hmm ... one of the customer care guy said to me that they made it tiny and so light that they had to take away these thingies ...
really not an convincing answer .. thre was no reason why they could not put that panel at the bottom!
rohitbhosale 2 years ago
One reason why they do not offer a hatch is less people will fiddle with the internals = less service returns.
