@mylles23: The guys were already in their 30s, when this came out. They were pushing 40, at the time of 1981's "Face Dances," an album that disappointed this then-16-year-old, but has really grown on me, to become a favorite. Check the lyrics to that one, if you have experienced that age range, in your life (or if/when you do eventually), and you will understand.
L'album "WHO ARE YOU" des Who est sensationnel, tout le monde parle de Who's next, live at leeds mais celui-ci est exceptionnel également. Ecoutez sister disco et Who are you qui est devenu la BO des experts, c'est des classiques du rock! Roger Daltrey Forever!!! Les Metalleux Bordelais!
I remember the antipation of this album release in 1978. My friends and I boght it on opening day and played it cover to cover. Recorded it on cassette and usedto play it at our outside keg parties (Anyone remember those days)? Then got a real kick in the crotch when we lost Keith some months later. The who had helped pioneer R-R and they were approaching their 30's at this point. Very impressive !
@TasOMW --yeah, although Pete was talking about his writing, the Who are one of the few that progressed and songs did NOT remain the same--pun intended
@costaltabelluno yes despite the joke i made i do believe they were one of the greatest ( if not greatest) bands of rock n roll, they just plagarised quite a bit in the beginning of their career
I started listening to The Who when I was 11 and I'm now 14. It all started with my older sister FORCING me to watch The Kids Are Alright. I'm glad she did. I fell in love. With everything. With Roger's voice. Pete's guitar. John's Bass. And Keith's freaking amazing drumming. :)
I once thought the verse "My hairline ain't exactly superstar" said "My head art ain't exactly superstar," as if Pete thought his lyrics were like graffiti found in a restroom. I guess I didn't think Pete would deign to sing about his hairline, but I supposed he would be self deprecating about his lyrics, no matter how fantastic they were/are.
Someone rightly commented on the tongue in cheek nature of the lyrics. These middle aged guys' humorous honesty and self deprecation is soooo refreshing, they were one of the all time greats but kept wrestling with their own significance in the grand scheme of things (OK, Pete did - the rest not really, certainly not Moon:)
My favourite line: "My hairline aint exactly superstar" that really comes out of left field in the song, brilliant!
@lazysod90 You are actually right with your comment. No one {in my book} compares to Zeppelin as far as studio and live shows went. I can make that statement because I was lucky to have seen them play live with and without John Bonham Bonzo 6 times total. In the studio they were just as brilliant. The Beatles live shows were average. But The Beatles in the studio were amazing. I think The Beatles have a larger 'all ages' fan base. Thanks for your feedback!
i had this recording back in 1978. didn't realize how good it was back then. heard this on a real classic rock radio station tonight that plays classic rock and doesn't spend all day talking about how cool it's djs are.
at 3:00 exactly, from Roger's scream to Pete's unique strong bars, this song is brilliant and actually beautiful. Why even question it? I am pleased to say that I had the pleasure of seeing the Who back when Keith was with the band. That was when the Great Western Forum was the venue in LA.
some stupid musical paper wrote that WHO ARE YOU was an album of " monumental meaninglessness" - well, 20 years later, listening to THIS, I KNOW that its those damn journalists who are MONUMENTYLLY MEANINGLESS and not THE NEW SONG!
One of the best bass lines that The Ox has ever pulled off in the studio. This guy was a-m-a-z-i-n-g! John "Thunder Fingers" Entwistle played these parts spontaneous and fluent during the live shows as well. The original four members were pure magic live and I would only compare Zeppelin and The Beatles to them are far as musicianship goes. Its too bad that Moon and The Ox are gone because that chemistry will never be seen on stage again. Great song here, super post
@Paneeks1960 Please. The Beatles were nothing more than competent musicians, great band but to mention their musicianship in the same sentence as the Who and Led Zep?
Even though it took some doing to get the drum tracks done, due to Keith's poor health, I think, in my opininion he played his arse off ,and may I add brilliantly ! I love this album, and I miss you MOONIE !
@gyro62 - I totally agree. I reckon Keith played his arse off on this album too. But then he never failed to do that. His whole heart and passion belonged to The Who, and it shows whenever he plays with them.
It is one of those songs that is so good, it sends chills! My little sister is only 13 years old, and she knows every who song by heart and sings them with all her heart. We were fortunate to fly to Boston and see them live, and she is on the dvd in the front row singing the songs and crying. Love you sis, and love you who!
@wintervannicola I raised my two daughters listening to The Who. They went to see them at Great Woods (or whatever it was called at the time) in 2002 at the age of 10 and 11. The older Who fans were amazed that they knew all the songs. The Who is that good.
can anyone download the wonderful song I´VE HAD ENOUGH from the same album? thanks! this record is underrated, WHO ARE YOU sounds better than ever now

Pete knocks Keith's playing on this album. The drums are like, the only good thing on this track.
