  • Does wrapping it from behind the hook or in front of the hook make a difference? I tend to wrap from under the hook over the top as opposed to over the top down

  • @craftycarly1 I appreciate the comment, thank you

  • Why do you only go through 1 loop in the first chain, but go through 2 loops in the 2nd and 3rd chain? If instructions say go through the front or back loop only, it is always better to go through both loops?

  • i dont uderstand it still. i do the same exact thin as shown, but i keep messing up. how do you do it?

  • @countrymeplz Keep practicing and you will get it. I have a playlist with more beginner video that I will send to you.

  • thank you so much i was working on a glove in a round and it says to make the thumb hole to crochet and break in the middle by left hand single crochet i was so confused before i found this

  • @jacobsgal28 I am glad it makes sense

  • Thank you so much!!! I was getting so annoyed trying to figure this out!!! All the instructions I was finding were for righty!!!!

  • @OreosMom1010 I have over 100 tutorials for the lefty and in a playlist

  • Why in your video's you stop speaking?

  • @Tamicka277 The video has slow motion

  • I feel like such a dummy here. I cannot follow along no matter how much I try. I just can't seem to tell where you're putting the hook into and I'm getting all confused and ending up with a pile of knotted spagetti. I used to be able to do this - what the heck happened!

  • @jaceraden Keep practicing. I will send you a beginner playlist

  • Nice video

  • ok looks good, i;ll send this to my cousin who is left handed......thanks

  • Thank you so much!! You were a big help!!

  • @TheCookiemonsterking You are welcome!

  • -yay- for left handed crocheting.

I am left handed and my Aunt taught me how because she is left handed too. It's cool to find video's to crochet this way. :]

  • @InkRoze I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • I trying to convert right directions for a cape to left handed directions

  • @maureeng57 The only thing you need to keep in mind is if you are told to put your hook to the right or left of a stitch, you will do the opposite. For example if instructions are saying to put your hook to the right of a stitch, as a lefty, you will put the hook to the left of the stitch. Otherwise everything is the same. You can follow any written instructions as you are working to the right, with your left hand.

  • I don't know what I'm doing wrong..

I don't really know how to explain it, but my single crochets don't come out flat?

  • @3redroses3 I am not sure what you mean by your stitch not coming out flat. When your are first learning to crochet, your stitches may be a bit uneven. That is normal. As you practice, your stitches will become more consistent.

  • Thank you very very much, I am so happy you have this lefty series out, I was struggling so badly trying to crochet right handed, this changes everything, much much easier and quicker!

    THANK YOU!!!

  • @AtkinsHorses You are welcome! I appreciate the comment.

  • Thank you so much. I thought I'd never learn. My mom has tried teaching me how to crochet but being a lefty has left the both of us frustrated beyond belief. Again...thank you. =)

  • i thought id never learn, but thanks God n thank u, im pretty good...

i was watching ur right hand crochet tutorials, n i was getting it, now im better!! thanks a lot...

  • @ivonnegarc102911 You are welcome.

  • THANK YOU SOOOO MUCCCCCCCCCCHH IM SO RELIEVEDDD

im a lefttyyy and no one could teach me well but THANKS A TONNE

    this is AWESOMEEE =)

  • @Msid94 You are welcome! :)

  • Thank you so much! I have knitted for years, but have never been able to crochet even though I took private lessons twice. Thanks to you I am working on my first blanket for the neonatal babies.

    Donna

  • Thank you SO much for doing this series of lefty crochet! I am just beginning and thought my mother could teach me - she's a lefty too - but nope, she crochets right handed, go figure! Anyway you have demonstrated this extremely well and I really enjoyed your site. Thanks again for being awesome!!

  • @rach03julia You are welcome. I am happy that you are able to learn as a lefty.

  • I am a beginner and this video was a fantastic starting point for me. I don't know any left handed people who crochet and my right handed friends just got frustrated trying to figure out how to show me. THANK YOU!! Great video :)

  • @daniellasmom2003 I appreciate the comment.

  • Thank you so much! Seeing your video is so much better than reading how to do it. I have wanted to learn for years but couldn't do to family members are right-handed.

  • @samedifamily You are welcome. :)

  • Thank you so much! I was taught by right handed people and nothing I have tried to crochet has looked good at all. One video and my work has drramaticly improved. I can't wait to get the single stitch down and move on to different stitches :)

  • @pandorasjen You are welcome. :)

  • Thanks so much for the fantastic video! You make it so easy to follow. I actually bought a book for left-handed crochet and it wasn't half as clear as your instructions. I'm delighted that you took the time to make these videos. I'm going to work along with all of them..

  • Thank you.

  • yay!!! my friend can finally learn to crochet. i had a hard time teaching him how to do it right handed. i'm glad you posted this video. it helps a lot. :D

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment. I wish you much continued success learning crochet and teaching crochet to your friend.

  • I took a class last night and the instructor basically told me I would have to learn right handed. She said it would be impossible to follow patterns left handed. So glad to see that it's just as easy to do left handed!

  • It is really unfortunate for someone to say something like that.

    1) If you understand written instructions, they will work for both left and right hand. If specifics are mentioned, like "Insert your hook to the right" you will need to keep in mind to "Insert your hook to the left".

    2) If you follow symbol instructions, you can copy the pattern, reverse the pattern so it goes to the right.

Once you learn the basic stitches, it will all get easier from there.

  • Thanks again. I thought left handed was too much to ask and here it is! Love the slow mo!

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • Super. I have been trying to learn crochet for years and it's so much easier watching a fellow lefty.

  • thnx so much for showing this vid it's so much easier bcoz im a left-handed

  • You are welcome.

  • Thank you Teresa,

Right handed friends can show me until they are blue in the face but you make things really clear.

Not got beyond the chain yet but confident I can make that shrug now

ps - might be back with questions

  • You are welcome to ask as many questions as you would like.

  • Thank you for the videos. It really helps me as a left hander =)

  • You are welcome.

  • Thanks so much for the left handed tutorials. I started to learn from a book and thought right handed felt more comfortable but then I watched this video and decided to try it left handed (since I'm a leftie!) and I am having a lot more success. Thanks so much.

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment. :)

  • I have been watching this for two hours and I still can't figure it out. When you stick the hook through the chain, what are you pulling through? And how do you pull the loops without knotting it?

  • How she is PULLING THRU is the main technique of crochet: you will have a length of yarn leading to your ball of yarn. Put the hook thru one loop that you make with your hands, use the hook to CATCH that length of yarn and that is what you pull thru: it will make a loop which is COMING OUT of the first loop.

  • You are pulling the yarn through each loop of the chain. This is the yarn that you hold with your opposite hand. Each stitch is a series of loops making stitches or pattern stitches with design elements. Each stitch you do could turn in to a knot at any point if you are not careful.

  • I finally got it! Thank you! Thank you, Thank you!

  • This is great! My mom and grandmother have attempted to teach me this a few times since I was a kid and just now I FINALLY figured it out. LOL!

Thanks so much. I can't wait to move on to the double one next.

  • Your video series is fantastic . . . the close-up camera, clear explanations, and slow-motion makes your video easy to follow--and it's for lefties! As a leftie, books (even the ones with the "for leftie" instructions) are hard to learn out of, and I've had difficulty mirroring a rightie who tried to teach me to crochet. I gave up 15 years ago but am trying one more time. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you so much for putting up your Crochet 101: Left Hand Crochet videos!

  • Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it. I do have a playlist with all the lefty tutorials. I can send it to you if you have not found it already.

  • If it wasn't for your tutorials for lefties I would have given up also :( but thank God I found your channel; God bless you!! :)

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you so much!! i have watched a bizillion videos to try and learn. i finally learned when i found ur video!

  • You are welcome.

  • Your videos make me want to take up crocheting. I have done quite a bit of knitting in the distant past, and I have 2 crochet hooks, but I can't remember actually doing it!!!

  • Hopefully you will give it a try in the near future. You are welcome to ask questions if you need help. :)

  • thanks so much! :) im left handed...my gran got frustrated teaching me anything. I know how to knit alredy and was relly fascinated by crocheting. i knew the rules but didn't know HOW TO WORK MY FINGERS. it was cuz i was left handed and her instructions were right handed and blah blah thanks soo much it relly helped. :) i figurred it out!!!!

  • You are welcome, I appreciate the comment. Happy crocheting.

  • Thank you for the great how-to videos! My question is how do I know I'm at the end of a row without counting my stitches? Is there an easy way to tell?

  • You are welcome. I always suggest counting. It is really easy to drop or pick up extra stitches on the edges. Counting is the best way to avoid frustration. If you really don't want to count, you can do a count every 5 rows or so to make sure your still have an accurate count. When the time comes that you have to rip out rows, you will not have to rip out as many.

  • Why do I keep getting stuck? I do exactly as you say & either get stuck, the yarn won't move or I end up in a knot? I am ready to throw my ball of yarn across the room!

  • I am not sure why you keep getting stuck. My suggestion is to put your work down for a while and then come back to it later and try again. There is no need to make yourself frustrated.

  • thanks so much for all the vids on left handed crochet my daughter is left handed she just love 's you thanks again she never crochet before and is doing great thanks again

  • You are welcome. It is great to hear that she has been successful learning.

  • Thank you. I was looking for a visual tutorial for left handed crochet. I'm so glad I found your videos.

  • Thank you. :)

  • This is great! I am right-handed and have crocheted for many years. It's getting more difficult now that I have developed nerve pain in my arm and shoulder (due mostly to many years of computer mousing and maybe too much crocheting). Now I can give my right arm a rest! I'm learning to do my mousing left handed as well. I like that you did so much in slow motion too! I tried to crochet left-handed years ago but just couldn't get my fingers coordinated. Your visual aid is a life(arm) saver!

  • Thank you. :)

  • Thank you for this video so very much. I am left handed, and I managed to learn to knit the basics years ago,but crochet always seemed like a dream. I am following your video slowing and makiing progress. Thank you. My husband and I are in our mid 30's and are trying to get pregnant. I have decided that maybe if I can make this baby blanket, the baby will come. At least it is something else to do to keep my mind busy. Thank you again.

  • You are welcome. I appreciate your comment. :)

  • Okay, I'm a guy.. I don't know if this is easier for women or something but I cannot do the first 30 seconds at all.. Is there any way for you to slow that down?

  • Portions of the first 30 seconds are in slow motion as well as more after that.

  • aww thankyou for the left handed vids :D

    i am a leftie XD

  • You are welome. :)

  • Thank you for the video on left handed single-crochet. I have wanted to learn for years and didn't think that I could being left handed. Isn't the internet great? Thanks, again.

  • You are welcome. :) I appreciate you commenting that you have found it useful.

  • now that you have learend to crochet... do like we all left handed crocheters... see a person that isright handed do a pattern just copy it as we left handed are right handed mirror and for us everything is more simple as we only see the pattern and do it exactly as the video without needing to flip the pattern... GOOD LUCK!

  • I REALLY appreciate all of your videos- I was so excited to see the lefty section! I have been crocheting off and on for about 2 yrs. and have always had one problem- my stuff always curls up in the begining. Am I doing something wrong? Can you give me any pointers? Thanks again!

  • Thank you. What do you mean by curling up?

  • For example, I am making a blanket and by the time I got to the third row it's just one big spiral and doesn't lay flat!

  • That would indicate to me that there are not enough stitches to go around the blanket so it is curling up. You will need to include more increase stitches each round so it will lay flat.

  • Thank you for taking time out to answer my question! I will try to increase the stitches and see how it turns out. Thanks again, and keep up the awesome work!

  • i am leftie but i dont have any difficulty with seeing and following crochet vid tutorial for rightie! hehe :D

  • I'm sorry...I feel like such a moron! About 8 seconds into it you say "put the hook through the next chain and pull it though and I have two loops..." Pull it through what? Your hand movements at this part are so quick that I just don't see it. I keep getting a knotted mess.

Thanks you for the leftie instructions though!

  • You are welcome. :) You put the hook through the chain and then you pull it through the chain that you just put the hook through. You can watch at 16 seconds and it is the same movement. After that it goes in to slow motion.

  • Thank you so much for posting these videos - as a leftie previously taught by a frustrated rightie, they've proved indispensable and I can now crochet perfectly!

  • Thank you. It is great to hear about success from a lefty.
