Is the engine loud? I'm worried that when I start it up at 6 in the morning my family is going to wake up. But I love your truck, those 6.5s sound amazing
found one of these trucks in great condition with 90,000 mile for $8000 thinking about getting it just dont know how long the engines last dont want to buy it just to have the engine go out in 10-20k miles any advice would be great thanks
@hollnagelc From what I have heard the 6.5 diesels dont like to be neglected, Keep up on oil changes, fuel filters ect. They did have some issues like the PMD modules going out, and over heating issues. There is a company called ssdiesel supply that make updates for the 6.5 diesel to make them a good running engine.
Personally I like my 6.5 the parts are a lot cheaper to replace that the power strokes, cummings and duramax.
Plus the 6.5 gets good mileage I get 18 mpg with mine.
you have obviously kept the glow plugs in good repair. this is a great example of how these diesels can start great. most of the time you see a hard start video and in the description they say several glow plugs don't work. well no shit its going to start a little harder.
@branman2794 thats because after they start up the glow plugs cycle on and off for a min or so until it warms up better. they drain a lot of juice from the charging system. i run a tow truck with one in it and it does the same and i have all LEDlights on it and they still dim. theyre a tough and great engine as long as you make sure the glow plugs and the oil changes are done at the right time. mine starts at -40 windchill no questions asked not plugged in within 3 whirls

curious question why were the parking light dimming when you first started it
branman2794 1 year ago
@branman2794 that is caused by the glow plugs cycleing on and off it does that all the time.
