  • reminds me of a port-of-call visit in turkey. man, that hash will knock your dick in the dirt. that, and the hookers smelled really bad...

  • very elementary my dear Watson!

  • is that a half-size sitar??

  • thats pretty boss man. i want to learn to play the sitar so ill have something to do for all that free time when i join the marines. to everyone bitching about the "proper" way of playing the instrument: Shut up. he did a great job playing and that was the point of the video anyway.

  • Who cares if he's sitting or standing. He's doing what he wants as a human. Go set rules for your own life.

  • Very well played. Has great future. Nothing like great music to spread peace in the troubled nation, It is soothing and uplifts the soul. Spread the music, my friend so that we can all live without hating one another.

  • if classix are gonna live it is through their spirit and not form

it is amazin that this guy can forsake a guitar for a sitar i believe that is enough for me

  • That's not the correct position to play the sitar.

  • ma ki dan hai

  • he is not even sitting right.....impressive!

  • Bahut khub! wah wah...very nice!

  • beautiful! good work, 5 stars

  • awesome man

    you rock

  • where are you from????

  • the description says he is from pakistan.

  • nice but needs better quality.

  • the more i see someone play,i'd love to try one these gadgets out man, that sitar has a lot of sounds out of it ,this masterpiece was awesome ,i was playing desk percussion to this man,all i what to do nowadays is jam

  • He's no Ravi, but I liked this.

  • I laugh at all the people so grounded in convention they lose appreciation for sound in its own.

  • Obviously you can see how much he is appreciated or he gambled all his money away...

  • lol yep

  • Totally awesome !!!!!!

  • it doesn't sound that amazing to me really. its good but if thats the best around then wow. its just pedal tones.

  • I'm pretty sure an INSTRUMENT with no feelings or emotions doesn't care whether the preson playing it has bloody shoes on or not.

  • whts so bad in it? dude, evrytins bad bout it....

its bout giving respect to ur instrument...get that?

    betta!

  • I know this is linked to Indian religion, but in western world the instrument serves you, not opposite.

Maybe the respect for instrument was good for religious music played in temples centuries ago, but as we developed playing music just for fun, those laws seems to be obsolete.

  • the sitar sounds awesome as hell this dude is good!

  • Clearer sound would make it better.

  • somehow i found this masterpiece by typing pakistani, so that's a blessing

  • not shoes xactly bt flotrs...

  • sheer disrespct.....hes wearin shoes....illitrate.....bug off man!!.....shit....ruind all my mood....

  • I agree.

  • GAMEOVER200, I'm sorry if it ruined ur mood, but the thing is, u dun have to be all dressed up and ready ... besides its not a public performance, we all are sitting in the kitchen, now that might be disrespectful as well ... but with friends night out, it doesnt really matter, the main thing is how he's playing and all ... if u want to see him perform perfectly, watch my other vdo in which he won all Pakistan Music Competition in 2006 ... Thanks !!

  • you guys are my heros

  • @mobeenkhan2k

Hmmm, cannot expect too much from a paki, fraudd always! When you learn, learn properly, dick!

  • @mobeenkhan2k :O thats awsome <3 you have sofa's in your kitchen <3 :D

    hehe

  • what about wearing shoes? whats so bad about that?

  • What is the method used for tuning a sitar?

  • how much does a sitar cost, and where i get it???

  • you ever tried google? just a thought rather than making someone do it for you

  • Ha is he eating bombay mix?

  • bud bud ding ding pl0x

  • where the hell do you get a gig bag for that b othch?

  • LMAO

  • very nice

must be a bitch to tune

  • @ Joomtrancehop

Is that you I'm watching in this Video?

    I didn't think so.

  • Joomtrancehop:

Telling a master of the sitar how to sit. Foolish.

  • Someone must let him know how his culture operates!

  • JOOMTranceHop ... this is just a casual night with friends ... so it was not a biggy .. u shud see my other sitar playing post in which Wasif won all Pakistan Music conference, thats the proper one with proper way of sitting and all !!!

  • awesome!

  • Great now I wanna punch a baby in the face.

  • Why would you want to punch a baby in the face?

Punch your mother in the face instead.

  • You can punch me, for my brothers and sisters deserve nothing but peace and bliss. For God speaks and those who understand are in a peaceful eternity. Beyond understanding of time, Godhead.

  • where do u get a sitar?

  • im sure you can buy one online some where easiest place to start looking is ebay

  • listening to that jus makes everything very very peacefull

  • Yeah! So very, very calming..

  • Nikhil Bannerjee practiced as a youth with his teacher, Baba Alloudhin, from 4 am until 11 PM! each day. He is a master. I believe a greater master than Ravi Shankar.

  • i wish that i could play the sitar

  • Oh. Well i guess HE mastered it but probably for most people it would take that long especialy since he's the only known master.

  • stringing that thing must suck

  • what are some good sitar brands

  • some great ones are hiren roy, rikki ram, heman, manoij kumar sadar: are some of the leading brands

  • what kind of sitar is that?

  • well im sorry to say but no instruments is "not hard" playing the harmonica takes an effort its like saying i can get a touchdown the 1st time i play football

  • Yeah also theres no point were you cant get better at an instrument so no matter how good you are at it theres always something to do that would be harder for you. And Im pretty sure i heard that the sitar would take 3 or 4 lifetimes to actualy master the sitar.

  • Just by listening, I can't tell if he's wearing shoes or not. Listen to his playing and you can tell he respects it, don't be uptight.

  • good point. this guy dusnt seem to care about the music eh just the guys clothes

  • You don't have to sit the correct way to respect the music. he's relaxing, that's all.

  • yeah thats my point

  • yes sitar is an instriment, not some religion where you need to respect something in order for it to work

  • wow I like this!

  • This guy is actually an amazing player. Never mind the quality, listen to the intonation

  • he's wearing floaters while playing sitar......not gud

  • quality sucks.

  • I've been tempted to buy one of these and learn to play, but they look too hard!

  • That sitar is not toned right =(

  • tuned

  • Im swedish

  • all right, my bad. But now you know

  • aye thank you =D

  • Hehehe :)

Well its just a casual friends sitting after coffee, thats why we didnt let him do anything and just play :) ... see the other video of star playing which i posted, in that one he was given the first award, its better. Also this is a mobile vdo, so sound quality is not good :)

  • how many strings does a sitar have?

  • 18 strings

  • it varies. many of them are resonant strings, meaning you don't actually play them.

  • 7+22 the later 22 are tuned differently according to the piece you are playing. Si+tar

    si=7 and tar=string, hence sitar.

  • I would like to make a question if you don't mind...

Why sitar players don't use the other wo fongers in the left hand?

That's something I wanted to ask for a long time :P

    Thank you.

  • that would be because you only really play on one string. Therefore, you just play with your index finger and, when you reach the last note in any ascent, you use your middle finger for that note so the turn can be made smoothly. more than that is not necessary, and, in my opinion, would make things more confusing. this keeps it nice and simple :-)

  • great job

  • The sitar is the coolest instrument in the world. I could listen to sitar ragas and endless sitar jams for hours. Awesome stuff!!

  • Great playing, the sitar is a very beautiful instrument and I can see you love it.

I recognize those chairs and the walls - was it recored in Charlotte House, Newcastle?

  • Well okay u got one thing right, this is UK hahahaha ... but its Chantry Court, Bristol :) ...

But hey, good to know u liked it :)

  • Its a totally different form of respect than most muscians have towards their instruments whit the sitar players, when you enter the domain of the instrument, you have to take of your foot wear and be careful not to step over it, they also have different ragas(mood) for different parts of the day, raga is a based on a scale, and you have some for morning etc. its because you have a different mood in the evening than you have in the morning.

  • Thanks for a wonderful reply ValidusHamael, well as i mentioned before in reply to one of the posts, it was just an after dinner session of friends in a hostel, so its pretty much casual sort of a way, if u see another video of mine uploaded, in that, u will see the perfect posture required for playing this beautiful instrument along with no footwear !!!

  • man i wanna learn how to play this thing so bad. im tired of my old instraments

  • Namaste!

  • Namaste! Doesn't that mean the light in me is the light in you.

  • wow- your so good! keep it up!

im an American and i also want to learn to play the sitar- although im not sure of anywhere around here to learn from...

    but anyway-- you rock!

  • Sitar master Kushal Das is providing online live sitar lesson. Check out our videos at our profile for more info

  • SWEET! thankyou!

  • very nice alap

  • saheeh hadeeth-the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "In my ummah there will be people who allow fornication/adultery (zina), silk, wine and musical instruments........" (reported by Saheh Al-Bukhari No. 7494b)

  • i made something arabic to check out my vids pleAse leave a comment and rate vids

  • you should know that greatest sitarnawaz were from pakistan like the poontchwala family and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan Sitar nawaz and if today some artists of pakistan are not famous this is not the fault of "molviz" but the BIG fault of the government of pakistan who is not promoting the pakistani artists of classical music unfortunately this peace is good good hand on sitar but not master hand like Ustad Ashraf Sharif khan Sahib of pakistan or Ustad Shahid pervaiz of india

  • Thanks for the support "heartoflyon", well I do agree with you, Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan is an amazing Sitarnawaz and he has worked all his life on it, but the thing is, he did won and its really the truth, i ask everyone of you to check out the other vdo which i posted long before, thats the one which he played and the one which made him win the competition.

  • Well its been only 6 yrs for him and he still has a long way to go with it, he can be even better :) ... with the passage of time :)

    Peace !!!

  • Wasif is good but as others have pointed out, he is not a master or at least it doesn't show in this video. Rais Khan, my all time sitar hero is in Pakistan. I have heard his young son who is fabulous as well. Anyways, I wish all the best for Wasif.

  • Mobeen, you are either wasif pretending to be someone else or a very close friend who cannot take the slightest critcism. The reality, as johnnysitar said, is that wasif is an amateur. Pakistan does not have the talent which India has where music is nurtured. As a Pakistani i feel we should do more but sadly the maulvis have grater influence.

  • thanks fsk008. The truth is that Im Pakistani too.

  • This musician is not a 'master' of the sitar. In fact he must have won a youth competition or something. There are at least a dozen Pakistani sitar players I know personally who play a lot better.

  • Sorry to break the ice bro, but it wasnt a youth one, hard to know they never won anything ... no worries ;) ... it happens, some ppl just have to believe that they are not THAT good ;) ... Take Carezzz and Peace

  • actually - i feel sorry for you if you think this mediocrity is a "Pakistani Master"

  • Actually i believe this sorry is for your own self, coz what i believe is that you cant stand someone else take this away ;) ... face the fact junior ;)

  • Senior ... You should go and listen to a real master of the sitar. You obviously havent heard any - email me if you want names. I have no problems with Wasif. He seems like a decent student with potential.

Calling him a master is wrong because he isnt.

  • I've heard a lot of sitar players myself, what i just said is that he won All Pakistan Sitar Competition and u seem to have a problem with that ... he surely is good thats why he won, but i dun get it why u cant stand this thing ... its sooo simple but seems like someone is having a hard time understanding the point.

  • this is an amateur playing

  • well hey strange thing this amateur playing won him 1st Prize in all Pakistan Competition .... this is just the casual playing, check the real one posted on the same website ...

  • Sounds nice, but the pulling is not very sophisticated.

  • In america he wouldn't have won anything. Nice sounding recording though. His sitar resonates very nice.

  • Well dun know what sort of Sitar ppl play in America hehehe, but coming to the classical point of view, he is really rocking the brains of many Brit ppl here ;) in UK ... got many contracts and being invited at different places for different occassions, u really have to listen to him in big gatherings, this one was just casual style with his friends on a cup of coffee

    Cheers

  • Maybe then I, as a sitarist need to go out there and start playing. Think I'd do well there? Check my vidoes out, mobeenkhan2k, I think you'd like it.

  • very good..not a master yet, but ill still give it 5 stars

  • Hey Thanks, u should check out the other video of his playing Sitar in All Pakistan Music Conference, he won 1st Prize in it ... :) ... Cheers :)

  • well u get my 5 starts 4 owning a sitar! lol, let alone playing it!

  • For getting an award like 'master' i.e. Ustad/Pandit, try for a performance at Calcutta's Dover Lane. They have very critical ears!

  • Don't know about the 'master' in masterpiece.

  • Well he s the new upcoming talent from Pakistan, just won the first prize in all Pakistan Music Competition ... this as just during his casual timings when we were sitting together ...

  • Fully agree. We need to hear some serious recording. The only pakistani sitarist who can be called master is Rais Khan. He is also migrated from India.
