  • Hi Ken, this is fantastic. Loved your version. I feel Dowland would have loved it. Beautiful relaxed playing too. I've been having a go at translating Dowland to Blues Slide Guitar. You can find the results on my carsickphil channel. Not sure if Dowland would have approved. Classical purists certainly don't. But it is fun adapting these tunes which are so good that they're almost indestructible even in my hands.

  • @carsickphil Thanks for watching.

  • Ah ha, thanks for the heads up on this one. When your site is finished, will you be adding the PDF tab for this? Love it so much.

  • Sorry, it has never got past the making it up I go along stage. Try it for yourself. It's in C with lots of open strings (I think).

  • Yeah, I've got the start sussed, the rest alludes me. Nothing a bit of practice, patience and perseverance can't solve, surely.

  • Ken, I really enjoyed this one! I love that Ohana too. BTW, how did you get those great bird sounds in the background? :)

  • The birds live there.

  • LOL... Nice to see you channeling the 'King of Song,' Sounds a bit upbeat, tho', for Mr. Dowland. Maybe you've got a bit of Francis Campion going there, as well?

    Bravo!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA

    hilarious :D

really good playing too. deserves more views.

  • Thanks.

  • This is really nice !

I'm beginning with a Soprano ukulele and I am very fond of John Dowland but I can't find any chords for ukulele.

Do you have any advice on where I can find them ?

I would love to learn to play Flow My Tears.

  • I no idea, sorry. Much of his lute music was in tablature. You could adapt it.

    KEN

  • I'm afraid I am not a musician so I am not even able to read the lute tablature. I found it on Internet allright but I don't really know what to make of it.

    Armelle

  • Niiiice is that a tenor?

  • Yes, I've reviewed in one of my videos.

    KEN

  • beautiful music, i like it.

  • Okey, great advice!

    Thanks AntManUke

  • very cool

  • Hi Ken nice video!

I was just wondering if you did something about the string height that you mention in the review of this uke. And if you did, how did you do it? Because i'm quite interested in purchase that model.

    Thanks AntManUke

  • Yes, it was quite easy to fix.

I slackened the strings and removed the nut. It was only lightly glued. I sanded it down from below. Don't sand too much and keep trying it. You must not get any buzz on the open strings, even when played quite strongly.

Next I took out the saddle and sanded from below. Make sure it stands straight after sanding. Don't sand one side too much. Test by tightening strings.

Don't make the action too low. Re-string the instrument with fresh strings.

    KEN

  • Superbe! Gorgeous!!

  • I like very much your introduction text (music too) :-)))

    Dowland would have loved it.

(I guess, because I don't know him personnaly)

    Val ;-)

  • Hey there, I am just wondering if you did some cover lessons at Alsager School?

  • Not just cover lessons, I am there until the end of term. Come and say hello. I'll be there again on Thursday.

  • I thought I reconised you, you tought me at the last few weeks before my GCSE exam. Just thought I let you know that I was able to answer a lot more questions with your help from those past lessons, Thanks!

    - Ollie

  • Thanks Adelle. It has just become warm enough to record in my garden. The problem is that when I get home from work, everyone else is doing the same and the traffic noise is really bad.

    KEN

  • That sounded lovely. Great tone! What ukulele are you playing there?

  • It is an Ohana. Check out my video review of it. It is a lovely instrument to play and not too expensive.

    KEN

  • Sounds irish to me! ;)

Ken, actually I had no idea you play too! I always saw your comments to my videos, but couldn't connect them to anyone from the forums. Nice!

  • It is just a little tune I made up. KEN.

  • Verily I say unto thee, t'was da bomb!

Forsooth! Upon reading yon description, methought I would spy deeds of "country matters!"
